IFly max is ready to try in 2024

Reconfiguring in MSFS 2024.  Anyone know how to setup the Bravo Honeycomb with reversers.  Got it to work fine MSFS 2020 but can't seem to find the solution.  Oh I wish everything would just port over I hate setting up cameras and all the controls on my Alpha and Bravo Honeycomb devices.

The bigger screens are nice for sure.  Obviously that's just a Max thing vs an iFly thing, but it's still nice.  But specifically about the iFly, things I like:  - OUTSTANDING flight model.  Leap

How is the system depth and fidelity on this. I am seriously considering picking this up this weekend but I want to be sure it checks some key boxes for me and system depth is one. Does it compare in depth and fidelity to the old PMDG NGs? I have heard conflicting statements about this.

I would say it definitely compares favorably to the PMDG aircraft.  My personal take, after flying NGs and Maxs for a living for the last 11 years, is that I prefer the iFly.  But, that doesn't mean the iFly is better in all ways.  There are some things that PMDG does better; mostly, these are what I'd call "nice to have" QOL features that are a result of more mature software - things that are still on the to-do list for iFly.  Things that most sim pilots probably would never even know to look for.

On the other hand, iFly includes some of these types of things that aren't in the PMDG, so this might be more of a draw.

However, on the important things, I believe Ifly wins.  Flight model is not even a fair comparison; the iFly is one of the best I've seen in a sim, and the PMDG resides more on the other end of that scale.  LNAV / VNAV performance, while not perfect, is still better than the PMDG on an RNP approach.  The HGS is much more feature-complete (though still not perfect).  Failures are right on par.

LNAV and VNAV, as well as the HGS flight guidance, are also already under review for further improvement.  This is a main difference between these two aircraft: developer mentality.  PMDG has always had a tendency to be hesitant to admit faults within their product - until they fix it.  Then, they all of a sudden exaggerate the severity of the fault to exaggerate the significance of the fix.  Not a huge deal, but it gets old when you're trying to tell them how the real airplane functions, with documentation, and they just ignore it.

In contrast, iFly is very willing to admit where the areas for improvement are, and seems to be continually working to make a great product better.

So yeah - is it perfect?  No.  Does it compare well against PMDG?  Yes.  Do I like it better?  I haven't loaded the PMDG but once (to test the new LNAV and flight model) since the iFly came out.

How do you set it up to  have it start up in Taxi ready mode similar to PMDG. I just want to program the FMC and go fly right now.

And here's an area for improvement: panel states.  They exist and are managed in the EFB, but they don't capture every single item the way the PMDG does.  So for instance, if you start on a gate (so cold and dark) and load an engines and APU running state, it won't work correctly because the engines and APU weren't running to begin with.  In 2020, I would load up on runway, use Flow to zap myself to a gate, then load an APU-only panel state with most flows done and that worked.  That can't work in 24.  So yes, it needs work, and is on the list with high priority as I understand.  They've been prioritizing 2024 compatibility, so assuming the new sim doesn't add further roadblocks to panel states (which it very well might), it should be coming now that basic compatibility is working.

I agree as well... 2x good, beyond that, not so good.  4x would be nice and I believe they're aware folks would like to see it.

Some weird issues with loading passengers or fuel or cargo using the MSFS weight menu. Minumum loads were already way over max weight, no easy way to change it. Do I set it in the MSFS menu or that god awful efb that didn’t seem to work? Otherwise it seems to function.

As with most complex add-ons, definitely do not use the MSFS menu.  Fuel and payload must be set via the EFB.  I thought it was pretty straightforward... Whatever the main Weight and Balance section is called, then Read from MSFS if you want to see current values... Then step through the sections at the top for passengers, cargo and fuel.  Use the Set buttons for each section at right after entering a value, then click Complete when done.

We've been through this.  I actually took a picture a while back of a 20+ mile difference between the green banana and top of climb in the real jet, remembering the conversation.  I'll include it.  I think you're a little too accustomed to sim aircraft where all the magic always works perfectly...

As far as engine performance, if you were measuring a thrust increase at altitude you'd have a point.  But I'm not sure how you expect to *not* see an increase in rate of climb when an aircraft pitches up in the transition from indicated airspeed to latching onto a mach number.

I'm accustomed to sim aircraft because I'm just an old engineer and not a real pilot, so I can just observe the sim aircrafts and the YT real ones (if lucky). My question is regarding the engine envelope exclusively: all the jet engines drop their power with altitude, I can't understand how can a liner at full load and near to the max altitude with its engines breathing almost 40% less is "jumping" from 1.000 ft/min to 1600 ft/min and more.

Missing the PMDG DC6 in MSFS 2024 (she's here, but...).

Let's say your climb schedule is 280kts to .78 mach.  As you climb, the IAS of any given mach number is decreasing with altitude (mostly due to temperature decrease).  So you're in a fairly stable climb at, say, 280kts at around 1,000fpm (in your example).   When you intercept .78 mach, the airplane has to pitch up and climb more steeply to hold .78, because you're still climbing which means the IAS correlating to .78m is continuing to decrease.  So now, all of a sudden you're no longer in a stable climb at 280kts, you're in a steeper climb - you're trading IAS for a steeper climb rate.

Now yeah, eventually as you approach optimum altitude your climb rate will start to decrease (as it seems to me it does on the iFly), but for a good couple thousand feet there, your climb rate will definitely increase when you latch onto a mach number - because you're trading IAS for a steeper climb.  Think of it as a very minor form of a zoom climb.

Just launched it in 2024 and was struck by not seeing Simbrief integration for starters.  Performance was not good at KDEN, then she locked up.  Ground power?  I will do a reboot and relaunch and see if the sucky performance resolves 🤞.

It has Simbrief integration. You have to set your Simbrief ID once, after that it works as usual. You set it in the Tablet - Go to the System Page, then ACARS, and set your PilotSimbrief ID (six digit number, in your SB account page if you don't know it).

Once that is set and saved, you can hit Load on the FMC and it will pull the plan from Simbrief as usual.

Performance seems good on my end, at Fly Tampa CYYZ, 4K Ultra, traffic enabled and all that, I'm getting 65-75 fps (framegen on).

It is striking me again how many people prefer to ask strangers on forums before taking a thorough look at all the available options in game.

I was new to this aircraft as well and the only thing I had to look up is that you don't have a "Enter" key when you type something into the EFB (like your Simbrief ID) and indstead simply click into the EFB again to hide the keyboard.

But questions about how to load this aircraft up, how to get the Simbrief integration to work, is all easy to figure out yourself if you just click through all the tabs.

I hate the UI of the EFB, but that's beside the point. All the options are there, you just have to go through all of them first and will find what you are looking for eventually.

Kind of reminds me of my mom who always turned to me, her teenage son, when it came to programming the VCR. I did it, but I always said: "How about you take the manual and read it?"

To no avail though, it's so much easier when someone else does the figuring out for you... 😏

So why come here at all?  Just to brag about self-perceived intellectual prowess?

Thanks JonathanC I did cry Uncle a bit too early!  So your native rate is around 37fps, which would suck here because I won't use FG.  It's very early, maybe something in the MAX I haven't found yet might impact performance but so far, this plane is absolutely the worst performing plane I've used in 2024 so far--much worse than Fenix' 320 which easily maintains 65fps at KDEN in this gate.  The MAX is hobbling around 44FPS, panning is chunky as well.
