The VRAM Issues (2024) MUST be solved

I can’t run 2024 in VR unless I put graphics to mostly low settings, and use anything other than TAA.  Otherwise it’s crash city for me.  My system isn’t the beefiest, but it’s no slouch either.  In 2020 TAA with medium settings works well.

Hmmm, my 2024 VR experience is pretty decent using virtual desktop, with frame generation enabled.  Not TAA thou.  Experience has been stable so far with my AMD 9070 XT and quest 3, and run with AutoFPS....yes VRAM sucks big time

  • I solved it by getting a RTX Pro 6000. 96GB of sweet VRAM, and 10% faster than a 5090. Totally worth it for $10,000.

  • I feel like this defeats one of the major selling points of using MSFS.

  • It does but that's kind where things are at if people are running tons of addons (ESPECIALLY 2020 addons in 24). I was looking at some differences between runtimes for 20 and 24 native addons and

Try Dynamic Settings = ON and monitor your VRAM.

I have an 3080rtx with 10gb. Managed to limit vram by being picky with fenix liveries (4k only), settings to medium, fsr on with dynamic lod, ai traffic AIG 2k only...

Biggest improvement was disabling rebar with nvidia inspector for the msfs 2024 profile which saves me around 1gb!

Are any of the beta testers seeing anything better?

Nope, in the latest beta even at high settings the VRAM usage on the ground at large airports at 3440x1440 is about 90% of my 16 GB.

Ultra settings are not viable for 16 GB cards regardless of the computing power of the GPU, unless pushing DLSS scaling to balanced setting which is unusable because of the terrible implementation of DLSS in MSFS and FS2024 (blurry and ghosting avionics, artifacts on water, etc.) - whereas any other game looks great and almost indistinguishable from full resolution rendering on the 5000 series.

I agree with you that Asobo must resolve this issue and proposed solutions like "disable photogrammetry" are not acceptable.

The irony is also that the sim was made for XBox with 16 GB of shared memory (RAM+VRAM) and the PC "ideal" specs consider 12 GB of VRAM.

Evidently the sim is unfinished despite many months have passed since release and considering also the pathetic conditions of other features (ATC, AI traffic, real traffic and liveries, sea traffic, ridiculous draw distance that affects contrails (inexistent) and aircraft lights, etc. is good for simple VFR only.

Except no one is able to answer my question - why don't I have VRAM issues on an 8gb GPU?

You answered your own question 3 hours ago: no photogrammetry and "Dynamic settings", which pushes your graphics settings down to oblivion (not the game unfortunately). Also, most probably low resolution (1080p or lower with DLSS).

Finally, where are you testing your card? Try OMDB or KJFK with the A320v2.

And anyway, here we are talking about high end PCs that should be, according to Asobo, "ideal" for much harder conditions. Photogrammetry is the feature that sets MSFS apart from its competition the most, it is there since 2020 and it is NOT acceptable to disable it in order to compensate for the poor ability of Asobo to optimize the game.

The big question still remains, will these things ever be fixed.

According to Asobo, the fixes are "in progress". SU3 is not showing much progress to be honest...

Turn off photogrammetry...  something is coded oddly in 2024...  but that's a massive difference on my end in 2024.

I've not seen the resource window appear since doing that.  It's a bummer cause I like PG but it's not doable with all the addons I run.

Yup - one of the things that made the biggest single impact on my system too

Ryzen 7 9800x3D @5.2GHz; ASUS X670-P Motherboard; nVidia 4080 (factory o/c); 32G 5600MHz DDR5 SDRAM; Pimax Crystal Light VR Headset; Quest 3 VR Headset

PG was never an issue.  I just turn it off.

Isn't the real issue using highly inefficient 2020 textures in 2024?

As long as assets are native 2024 format you should be good IMO.

Just wanted to add the spec sheet that Asobo published is lacking in any kind of coherency so I'd take it with a grain of salt.

A 5700XT and 2080 are not equivalent GPUs at all. A 7900XTX is better suited equivalent to a 4080 not a 7900XT. A 5700 is woefully better than a 970, quite literally double in performance.

Why you'd pair a 2700X to a 10700k is beyond me, the 10700k is much better.

I could go on and on but you get the point. I quickly discarded it's value with regards to building a PC for FS24

Should you? I have very strange issues at airports that are completely native. Like the new IniBuilds Doha, but it also happens at Dubai, Abu Dhabi or London.

I use AutoFPS so the performance in general is okay. Yet as soon as I move on the ground my frame rates drop to single digits. And paning around becomes next to impossible.

As soon as I stop taxiing the aircraft framerates recover. The moment I move the whole thing starts again. And it only ends as soon as the gear leave the ground after take off. From then the performance recovers.

That's really the weirdest thing.
