Recent example of kernel level anti cheat software being exploited...........

https://www.pcgamer.com/ransomware-abuses-genshin-impacts-kernel-mode-anti-cheat-to-bypass-antivirus-protection/

"
Security skeptics and advocates have worried for some time now that exploits able to take advantage of anti-cheat kernel-mode drivers could wreak serious havoc on PC security. Now it seems to have happened: The anti-cheat driver used by Genshin Impact, the popular free-to-play RPG, has been abused by a ransomware actor to stop antivirus processes and enable the mass deployment of their ransomware."

The fact that blue chip AAA companies even struggle with this and the potential dangers leaves me pretty stunned that FS developers would allow a college drop out with 5 semesters of experience and who used AI to code his app to have this level of access to anyone's PC.
Honestly I'm struggling to find this believable.
I really think as a community we need to take a stand on this and say no. I 100% believe devs should be able to protect their work and their livelihood, but this is not the answer.

You should post this on the Discord channel.

One thing they can do is just release it on marketplace. I hate marketplace but getting sceneries from there isn’t the WORST in the world. They’ll have their precious encryption without the need to lo

I have reduced the file for a lot of textures without compromise the visual in this performance update that is coming very soon. For sure will help. Regards, Matteo

They just lost me forever. Orbx can now go pound sand. I would have paid $100 for this but now they’ve lost me as a customer.

I posted it in the Orbx forum verbatim. I'm not a member of the Orbx discord. If anyone else is feel free to post it there.

Hard pass from me. I'm not running DRM for sceneries - there's already enough background stuff running in the sim that actually has a purpose. I have no problem with DRM on aircraft like the Fenix or for other things that I use on every flight. Not for a scenery...and where does it end? If I have 50 addon airports installed from 25 different developers - do they want me to run 25 different DRMs in the background??

Their qualifications are also laughable. I hope the community reject this to the point that it sets a precedent for others to steer clear of.

I don't know what they're even trying to achieve. People who weren't going to buy the scenery won't be buying it just because they put a DRM in. The only thing I can see this achieving is upsetting actual paying customers who were going to buy this but now won't because they don't want some AI coded DRM running for a scenery they legitimately bought.

Really makes you scratch your head as to who comes up with this stuff...

I wish them luck with this but I cannot see how this airport is not going to be an absolute performance hog. Load it up with AI traffic and your choice of complex airliner and I'd be shocked if it's even flyable without massive stutters/VRAM issues....but I hope to be proved wrong! And now the DRM thing for the cherry on top....zoiks!

An "AI assisted" DRM solution... let's see how long it takes until it's broken. No place for amateurs in the DRM solutions arena, the graveyard is already crowded. In the meantime, we'll still need to keep the thing running on our computers. No thanks. Would rather wait for the Marketplace version, if at all.

Just read that you won’t have the same features on the marketplace version versus the Orbx Malware version…

Doubt that means it will be cheaper on the marketplace so your dollar/euro won’t go as far with what you get which is just the cherry on top for this fiasco.

Interesting. A couple of months ago I said enough. I'm not buying any more airports. It's too much. You have all these platforms offering a section of airports, you have to remember where you installed them from, install them and deal with issues. And when a new sim comes out it can take a year or two before they're compatible again. I just took a deep breath and said no more. I just decided to go explore, even if the airport is awful (in fact, the worst scenery in the sim is the airports) I'll just fly into them anyway and enjoy the scenery all around. Yeah, they can be pretty awful but between the price, the trouble and the maintenance, it's too much. Maybe the paradigm will change. Maybe default airports will improve. I hope so.

I know what you talking about and i believe most of us have purchases frome a dozen of vendors/sim store etc.

I do think some store helps you by pointing your version installed and if there is an update without offering the update by themselfs. This has helped me alot when there is an update that i was not really paying attention to.

Focusing on the latest sim (2024) also makes it easier now

I have lost track of this , are we under a hack attempt from the developer of this KATL ? :-)

Looks like the Aerosoft A340 uses the same DRM. Anyone who has that is already running a version of the DRM by the sounds/looks of it.

Plus the developer behind the DRM made vRAAS

Do you have a source for this?

Scroll to the bottom and it will say:

Note: The L3S DRM licensing system is used for this product. Further information can be found in our privacy policy. Can only be used with one Xbox gamertag.

If you then go to the privacy policy: https://www.aerosoft.com/en/privacy-policy it will have mentions of Land3Simulations.

Not saying it's the exact same version that this scenery is going to use but it's made by the same person / company. L3S = land3simulations and they are behind vRAAS (https://contrail.shop/collections/land3-simulations) as the screenshot provided by someone else in this thread of Clamb (Axel) speaking in Discord is the developer in the Land3Simulations discord for vRAAS.
