Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 Takes Flight on PlayStation

The perfect symptomatic comment from the casual gamer. You were the perfect target for Asobo/Microsoft. You simply forgot to buy an Xbox to make your comments consistent. Now you can always sell your computer and give PlayStations to your whole family.  To put it simply and to spare myself unnecessary debate, there is more truth in the mediocre world of XP than in the best of FS2024.

lol.  You're always in these threads with your passive aggressive comments aren't ya?   For you, a new hobby is on the horizon.

People need to realize that Microsoft decided to go with a different strategy and that is  to"widen the net and make the product more inclusive". Yes, it would upset some but make others happy. MSFS 2020/24 is nothing more than a refined version of Microsoft Flight that was a free product but was later cancelled.

Microsoft understood that in order for the series to move forward, was to get anyone and everyone to play MSFS. That would include the Namco Ace Combat crowd or actual real pilots. The strategy worked though it upset some.  Then we found out that over 100,000 were logged in to play the game at launch and crushed their servers. In fact Asobo and Microsoft both said they were taken aback at the level of interest for MSFS 2024 and had NOT anticipated so many players wanting to play a general aviation game.

Was it really a different strategy, or has MS always been a more inclusive sim?

MS money grab prior to Christmas. Same as last year when they released it a year too early. MS does not care about the user experience as they throw Asobo under the bus and add a third platform to a game that still has plenty of bugs. XP12 looking better and better.

Isn't everything about sales though?  It's a business.  Same as Laminar. Same as Apple.  Same as Coca Cola.

Have you even used 2024 lately?  It's superb!  I've basically got all my addons working in 24 that I had in 20 with a few rare exceptions.  24 has more realistic physics and visuals than 20.

"the most realistic flight simulator"

You don't lack strategic humor.

Whether MSFS is the most realistic or not is not the point. The goal is to sell as many units as possible. Make a product that is enjoyable for as many gamers as possible. The MSFS 2020/24 games do just that. I will take an uneducated guess that MSFS 2020/24 have vastly outsold X-Plane.

I am not a real pilot but I like general aviation games. I'm not a real golfer but I like golf games. I play MSFS 2020/24 with a controller. I play X-Plane 9/10/11/12 with a controller. You can make the product behave as you want. Microsoft took the path to make it easier to engage with a general aviation game. Whether it upsets some who think that general aviation games/sims need to be played only with a Yoke, rudder pedals, need a reality check.

Creating, developing and supporting software is expensive and you will only be in business if you increase your customer base. If you don't you will close your doors for lack of interest. That's why after FSX, the series went on a 14 year hiatus and Microsoft Flight was cancelled.

The same goes for racing sims. That's why most of the serious racing sims have after sales attachments i.e. "nickel and dime the customer" to offset creating, developing and supporting the product. You offset that when you have new customers and you get new customers when you widen the net at the cost of making a certain segment upset.

It is possible but it was the only game in town with the release of Microsoft Flight Simulator 1.0 in the early 80's. It was dubbed "As Real As It Gets". It was for the most part because it had NO competition until the market saw the need to enter the genre.

To your point, MSFS was probably always in the "Simcade" class of games but that wasn't enough to keep the series alive as the development team grew in size. The hardcore crowd is tiny in comparison to the gamer crowd. Back throughout the 90's serious flight sims became the norm or as it was called, "study sims". You had Spectrum Holobyte with Gilman Louie leading the Falcon 3.0/Falcon 4.0 teams and EA with Andy Hollis making their fighter sims which were regarded as very serious sims of the AH-64 Apache helicopter. Electronic Arts closed shop and so did Microprose and Spectrum Holobyte.

All were cited for lack of sales and interest even though Falcon 3.0 and Falcon 4.0 are widely regarded as very serious flight sims of the F-16 fighter jet. So yeah, a software developer needs to balance realism with play-ability if they want to stay in business and that means upsetting some and making others happy.

The same can be said about Gran Turismo vs iRacing. Both claim realism but true realism is found in iRacing but that requires, much higher cost both in hardware and ongoing subscription costs. All of that can be offset by engaging more players of different skill levels. And that is what Microsoft decided on doing.

How many people act like as if, besides the inclusive features, this "game" cannot be used for good simming too (especially with the right addons) is just plain idiotic and polemic.
People really forget where flight simming is coming from. This iteration of flightsim has unprecedented scenery worldwide, 1000s of handcrafted POIs, many handcrafted airports, a huge amount of well working airplanes, live weather, live traffic (which doesn't work well yet often), a great physics simulation, free updates for years and thanks to WT a big suite of very well simulated avionics and so on. No other sim or game is coming even close to that in terms of technology and content.

Let me take a guess here.
What do you think why SU4 is coming with much better performance? Why was VR improved lately? Yes! Thanks to the work they did for the new platform. And in the meantime they still shipped sim updates with countless fixes. Seriously, stop being in a constant state of being upset. There is nothing the sim can do that will make you not cry and spew negativity in the forums.

Some people will never be satisfied. It seems no update can stop them from spewing negativity. The discussions are ridiculous, especially from those who act "concerned" while actively destroying the simulator's reputation with false narratives. I hate to say it, but you need to touch some grass. At this rate, your constant and partially unfounded complaints will get the product decimated and risk the genre dying out again.

It is for me.

Live traffic is working for me without crashes in SU4, as are the default aircraft I've tried. Which so far is just the airbuses and C172

But yes there is WASM issues for some 3rd party aircraft, but it's a beta, issues should be expected.

Live traffic indeed "works" without crashes in SU4 beta.  But live traffic is also incredibly buggy in SU4 beta (even worse than in SU3).  AI aircraft constantly get stuck on runways or taxiways, resulting in chaos for other AI aircraft.  They also constantly take off in the opposite direction to which ATC directs the player.  LOD issues still plague the models, so they appear to float along the ground with no visible landing gear.  In my opinion, at the moment live traffic is worse in SU4 beta than in SU3 - and it is REALLY bad in SU3!

I’m going as far as to say, being a developer for MSFS for some devs might turn into a full time gig as opposed to a side hustle.

Honestly, I'm getting really tired of seeing the same X-Plane fans coming into MSFS forums just to spread hate and start fights. It feels like they’re trying to turn this into some kind of competition — like they’re getting paid by Laminar or something to bring back some fans ( or cash $ )

We’re here to enjoy flight simming, not argue over which platform is better. Let’s keep things positive and respectful

Holy negativity Batman!

I for one am super excited about this coming to PS5, and especially PSVR2!

I had a PSVR set up for GT7, and sold it just because I didn't find enough usages for it.

This would totally change that!

As a PlayStation gamer, it would be nice if Sony would port GT7 to the PC or the XBOX. Forza Motorsport has been canned and I bought the ultimate version of FM at half price. It is not as engaging as GT7.
