SmartPhones are next....😉

You are a bit late. It's already possible to play on phones via cloud streaming.

Flight Sim PC - OS: Windows 11 Pro. CPU: i9-13900K.  RAM: 64GB. GPU: NVidia RTX 4090 OC
Flight Sim Xbox - Seriex X, 3TB

Jayne confirmed on discord that the Boom isn't PS5 exclusive, she's trying to get an answer for the T-38A Talon

PS5 users won't need a Microsoft account to use the sim.

Xp12 is a great sim but still stunted by poor AA and it lacks a solid aerial imagery product as default.  While options are available all of them are pretty clunky or take a ton of storage.  Or they are payware...

It also needs a much bigger ecosystem of payware.

I tend to fly mostly msfs but do fly xp12 from time to time.

In which sense? Growing revenue? Expending market?  Widen outreach?

I don’t really have strong feelings one way or another about PlayStation users joining the MSFS community. In fact, I see the benefit of bringing more aviation enthusiasts into the hobby, and a larger user base can even help drive prices down for products like PMDG. That said, I also expect we will see more low quality developers pop up to cash in on console users, many of whom may not know the difference between a high fidelity add on and something thrown together quickly to make a buck.

What matters most to me is Microsoft living up to the promises they made before the 2020 release. During the pre launch panel interview where influencers first got hands on with the sim, the developers made it very clear that hardcore simmers were at the heart of their decisions and that the PC experience would not be watered down for consoles. As long as they continue to honor that commitment, I am fine with more platforms getting access. The problem is when trade offs are made that compromise the PC side just to accommodate console users. That is where I draw the line.

As mentioned by others, flight simulator was pretty much dead, we only had p3d performing cpr on the old fsx code to keep it going.

I went through some of my old fsx and p3d screenshots, what a long way we have come.

I was just thinking something along those lines.....

Can anyone remember the last mainstream media commercial for a Flight Simulator?

I went looking, and found a few and they were ancient. I even found one for Xplane, which is like finding out that the easter bunny is real.

Now with MSFS, there are Discords, multiple Facebook sites, dedicated Reddit threads, Streamers, Active Forums, Influencers, Reviewers...... The entire panoply of interest that forms around a flourishing genre of gaming.

Grown from a niche audience that was dying of thirst in a shrinking desert.

(And still sometimes complains about the invasion of pesky gaming people in their lawn)

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

This is well said.  I think overall it's better for the entire community because of two main reasons 1) It brings in more people...  especially kids.  Weren't we all kids when we started to learn flight simulator?  (maybe not ALL of us but many of us).  We all started somewhere.  2) More users means more revenue for Microsoft, which means more continued work on the genre.  MSFS 2020 had what 16 free Sim Updates?  And many world updates.    I can't wait to see where we go from here (2020/2024).  (Yes there is still lots of work to be done!)  From snippets I've heard/read from devs, the ability to host a product on the marketplace generates much more revenue (due to visibility).  It's also safer from a pirating standpoint.  While I don't personally enjoy the MP, I still buy things from it from time to time.  Even with all the junk on there, there are some high quality addons on there as well.  If a young new user first buys some trash scenery or aircraft, as they get older, they may be more likely to look at something more advanced.  And that helps generate revenue for higher end payware developers.

I get your point about trade offs for PC vs console, the initial LOD issues in 2024 were horrific.  I think Asobo addressed some of it, imho it's still too aggressive.  But SU4 brings a LOT of good performance changes, so hopefully we can get some more tweaks.

It's a win-win.

This is a very shortsighted view! The matter of the fact - we need a fresh blood ! It gives us years of sim developing funding and free bandwidth for years.

I've been working with Microsoft for 25 years as a developer and they charge every penny for every single thing. Each year things are getting more and more expensive. Just be happy they won't charge us cloud bandwidth and processing allocation per PC.
