Honestly, I'm getting really tired of seeing the same X-Plane fans coming into MSFS forums just to spread hate and start fights. It feels like they’re trying to turn this into some kind of competition — like they’re getting paid by Laminar or something to bring back some fans ( or cash $ )

We’re here to enjoy flight simming, not argue over which platform is better. Let’s keep things positive and respectful

Long story short: we prefer and like MSFS!

It's NO different than the debates whether Windows or Apple's operating system was the better product. In the initial part of the debate the Windows people say Apple's product was dumbed down and the Apple faithful replied with elitist remarks. As someone who's worked as a computer technician for two major US computer companies in the 80's I can say that MS-DOS and Windows were not up to par with the competition. Then IBM came out with their own commercial operating system called OS/2. It was better than Windows.

A few decades later, Microsoft got its act together and both Windows and macOS are both solid products. I liken the X-Plane crowd to that of the Apple faithful. In the end it doesn't matter because both X-Plane and Microsoft Flight Simulator are both solid products. I have learned to enjoy both as I have done with both my Windows PC's and my Macs. I highlighted the word Macs because you still have those who still have a lower opinion of Windows. I made a comment and typed Mac's and I was told it is Macs not Mac's. I see that at times with the X-Plane group as well as some, not all look down on MSFS.

Well, that is a correction of grammar. Maybe pedantic, but we must protect the English language at all costs!

"What? The MSFS platform is about to be exposed to an even bigger audience and make more money??? Things are looking up for the competition!" Haha you'd have to get dizzy from trying to spin things that hard 😂.

Meanwhile, Asobo is making steady progress with getting 2024 into shape. SU4 beta has for the most part put the VRAM bug in the rearview mirror and performance has improved appreciably. The bad sepia mask lighting at night has been given the boot. Even the flight model has gotten some love with inertia refinements that impressed Blackbox711.

I'm really excited for SU5 as I suspect that will be the start of them being free to start digging into the wishlist.

I'm very happy playstation users are getting a chance to play the sim. I've seen them asking for it regularly. The PS5 Pro is the most powerful console on the market and the platforms incredible I/O could easily make playstation the best place to play 2024 outside of PC. It's actually funny when you think of it.

As a PlayStation gamer, it would be nice if Sony would port GT7 to the PC or the XBOX. Forza Motorsport has been canned and I bought the ultimate version of FM at half price. It is not as engaging as GT7.

Same.  I've tried (and own) all the Forza's over the last many years and it just doesn't do it for me like GT does.

But, I have no other reason to have a PS5, so I don't play GT7 now (despite owning it).

If MSFS VR on PS5 (pro I assume) turns out to be great, I may be back onboard.

I've always found it to be too much hassle and tweaking (and cost!) to do MSFS VR on PC and would love a more plug & play way to do it!

I checked this morning and there wasn't any mention of PS5 Pro support although that doesn't mean it won't. MSFS 2024/24 look great on the XBOX and it is hard to tell them apart on my gaming rig with a 9800X3D, 64GB of RAM and a RTX 5080 in Ultra settings hitting 60FPS.

The downside to the XBOX version is that it runs at 30 FPS so when you pan the view in or outside the cockpit there's some blurriness/stair-step whereas at 60FPS the movement doesn't stair-step.

Hopefully with VR support you can get 60FPS but I can't see Asobo rewritten certain parts of the code just for the VR segment as the PS5 VR sales have been disappointing and I read that Sony stopped making them, at least that's what I read.

How many people act like as if, besides the inclusive features, this "game" cannot be used for good simming too (especially with the right addons) is just plain idiotic and polemic.

This is the thing that really drives me up a wall. People forget that gameificiation has always been a major part of simming whether they want to admit it or not. Joining a VA that has arbitrary scoring and penalties that provide simmers with a sense of achievement. Not to mention uptake of programs like, A Pilot's Life, FSEconomy, Neofly, FSPassengers, Self Loading Cargo etc etc are all ways that simmers very clearly want gamification and a goal-focused experience. Even FSX had it's fair share of "gameification".

However a number of people pretend like MSFS is the first to do this (anyone remember FsPassengers or AirHauler)? and furthermore its a problem that MSFS is even attempting to do it. The duality is extremely frustrating.

People really forget where flight simming is coming from. This iteration of flightsim has unprecedented scenery worldwide, 1000s of handcrafted POIs, many handcrafted airports, a huge amount of well working airplanes, live weather, live traffic (which doesn't work well yet often), a great physics simulation, free updates for years and thanks to WT a big suite of very well simulated avionics and so on. No other sim or game is coming even close to that in terms of technology and content.

Well said. Ya the idiocy is rampant from certain circles, but expected. Those who always try to pick on any features/aspects of MSFS that is trivial or not needed for Serious Simming ™️, or pick on the fact that it is available on console platforms, and then try to cast MSFS as only for "gamerz" is trying hard.. like real hard, because that's about all they can do I guess if they wanted to portray whatever favorite sim platform of theirs as *the* one for proper simming, vs MSFS.

Newsflash, a sim platform can do multiple things at once, cater to multiple audiences and platforms at once, and be used as seriously or un-seriously as one desires. Such is the diverse spectrum of use cases MSFS caters to (and that's even without needing 3rd party aircraft IMO since some of the default aircraft are of unprecedented fidelity which we couldn't dream of in the pre-MSFS era). Oh, and the notion that console users can't use MSFS for serious simming is also quite idiotic.. I mean, various PCs being used for simming currently are less powerful than some of the consoles too.

I don't think the PS5 Pro will be "required" ... but they also don't even require the XBOX Series X.  As someone who had MSFS on a Series S, let me tell ya ... you want at least the X - hah

I expect the same on PS5.  For MSFS, VR or not, I'd go PS5 Pro.

I have the Series X and S as well as the base PS5. I wasn't aware that the Series X supports VR. I can't do VR because of poor eyesight and I get disoriented when I have tried it. I don't like that feeling.

As to the PS5 joining the ecosystem of MSFS platforms, wonderful news! I see this as a sign of the MSFS franchise's continuing economic health and success, and MS continuing to invest even more into the sim platform (at a time when cutbacks are happening in other genres) is great. What a time for flight simming, and flight sim add-on devs.

Doesn't the PS5 have even less ram than the xbox?

If that's correct, asobo will be working on eve tighter ram optimization, which can only be good for all of us....

Now you guys are making me want a PS hehe.  I had a 2 and 3 and enjoyed them a lot.  Interesting that Forza is no longer in production.  GT7 is pretty good?  Anyway back on topic - I've always wanted to fly around on the big screen in my living room for fun.  Maybe it's time to pull the trigger on a Playstation.  I'm sure my boys would also enjoy it.  I'll still use my PC for "serious simming" haha!
