I've always thought the Baron was the most attractive GA twin ever designed. Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting. https://rationalwiki.org
November 24, 2025Nov 24 I did multi-engine training in a Baron which means a lot of time flying around with one engine which is not particularly fun 🤪 But I’ve had quite a bit more time in the Bonanza. It is a joy to fly. Very well balanced, it feels solid and predictable. Great plane to hand fly! My favorite GA piston by a mile. Sadly the whole GA market is probably past the point of no return. Yeah, I know Cirrus keeps selling tons of planes (on a relative scale)…but at $1M+ that’s not exactly within reach of anyone. I hate that Textron killed production, but it was inevitable when you look at the economics of it. Sad day indeed. Chris
November 24, 2025Nov 24 Probably reaching the end of line - Both Baron/Bonanza are 1960s design if I'm not mistaken compared to modern composite airplanes available on the market, that's still very old technology. I never had the opportunity to fly either Baron or Bonanza IRL but I'm guessing Textron probably has good reason as to why they have decided to end production on these. These aircrafts also have higher operating and maintenance costs compared to newer aircraft on the market.

November 24, 2025Nov 24 Split V tail was a sharp looking airplane, but unfortunately it earned it's nickname "doctor killer".
November 24, 2025Nov 24 I have flown beech singles like Sierra, Debonair, Bonanza. I must say out of all they were my favorite due to pilot comfort and reasonable ergonomics (except throw over yoke LOL). November 24, 2025Nov 24 Not meaning to derail the thread, but as the DA-42 has been mentioned as a possible real life successor, has anyone tried the COWS DA-42. It is on a black Friday offer at the moment. I already have the BS Baron and Bonanza, but the DA-42 would be something different with the G1000. Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind). I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio. Intel 14900K in a Z790 motherboard with water cooling, RTX 4080, 32 GB 6000 CL30 DDR5 RAM, W11 and MSFS on Samsung 980 Pro NVME SSD's. Core Isolation Off, Game Mode Off.
November 24, 2025Nov 24 Just for clarity, the DA-62 is more of a logical successor to the Baron as it seats 6 vs 4 of the DA-42. I think the Baron and DA-62 are more comparable in initial purchase price. But yes the Diamond appears to have the edge in operating costs….but definitely loses big time in the beauty contest 😉 Chris
