It will either be xplane or msfs.

Just saying, XPlane has plenty of study level addons. Your wallet is the limit.
Shifting gears back to topic isn’t this UE thing for VR user and not so much for monitors?

I’ve just watched a PMDG 737-800 video for MSFS24 and there’s still no (…) weather radar. Five years since the initial release.

Are you sure about this?

Absolutely not related at all.

UE5 IMHO, is the best graphics engine that has matured and it also does support DLSS4/FG.  There are a wealth of tools available for it and a very large community supporting it.  It’s flexible enough such that NASA use it for training and missions.

I watched airline2sim video and he mentioned radar was still not available. He’s an experienced pilot and simmer so I have no reason not to believe him.

Sorry to say, but he is mistaken. The linked photos and video clearly show the WX radar in operation. I’m flying the PMDG 777 in 2024 right now, and the weather radar is working. It’s also available on several other add-ons. Let’s please keep the basic facts straight.

Perhaps you could let him know. Not having that sim I have no real interest. Watching the video the 737-800 seems much the same as the P3D version.

What he probably means is that this is not what we would call a weather-radar. It's simply a 2D-image and not a fully 3d representation of the weather-returns with tilt and real reflections working like it is in real. Meaning it is more or less useless. This limitations have always existed.

Who is “we”? Weather radars in sims have always been limited, in my opinion. I’m just glad there’s at least a way to see precipitation ahead. It could certainly be improved, but it’s simply incorrect to claim that “WX radar is not available.”

« We » are the ones who know how a real weather-radar is supposed to work. For MSFS, many users have been wanting a true weather-radar since years.

I haven’t watched his stream and don’t know what he was exactly refering to by stating « not available ». So it’s just a guess. But what you see here is just the same as you may be seeing on the Meteoblue-maps as an 2d-image. A weather-radar uses a beam that is being physically reflected by some droplets in the clouds and builds a 3D-model of those radar-returns. And it should allow you to use the tilt to assess the whole situation and even reflect back the ground if tilted down. And that is not implemented as far as I know.

Stop spreading this false info, the weather radar in 2020/2024 is 3D, you can see the weather disappear/appear as you climb/descend, and you can get a side view in the Garmin equipped aircraft that support it. An actual dev who works on the sims has even said it's 3D.

But you're right that you can't tilt it.

MSFS is lacking in the physics department (especially on the ground) ... cloud /weather effects, inertia, drag ... it just feels a bit false.

If LM nails it this could be the holy grail some of us were hoping for (XP12 physics + MSFS scenery).
