It gonna get COLD!

Featured Replies

I think this winter has been the longest 5 years of my life. 😁

It seems like it has lasted that long and it's not over!  More snow yesterday evening, today it will be very cold with temperatures remaining relatively steady in the mid-20's (Fahrenheit) and winds gusting to 40 mph. 😲

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

How will we ever survive? Well, some of us have our own cats, of course, and are better prepared than some others. I gotta say, no one expected Greenland to deploy its weather in a first strike.

Wow, the UK is going to be underwater!  I woke up to 5°f/-15°c and 20 mph winds.  The wind chill factor is "Oh H_ell no I"m not going outside!"

Yesterday was 14°f/-10°c with 50 mph wind gust.  Luckily I stocked the house with firewood the day before.  I'm really sick of this winter🤬

It's traditional. Everyone should have a rubber dinghy.

Wealthy people have submarines.

Will it be large enough to hold elephants, giraffes and hippos?

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

Here in Cheshire we’ve not had that much rain - just 2.58” since 1 January. Other places especially around the SW have really been hit hard.

It got to 10.9°C here today. That’s 52°F. Not had a frost since mid January. But the lack of sunshine is the downside. 3 weeks to meteorological spring. 😁

Let's be pragmatic about this.

Ignore the elephants, giraffes and hippos. Fill the ark with blondes, brunettes and redheads, plus whatever else strikes your fancy.

Dogs and cats, of course. Other pets as desired.

Enough food animals for breeding stock. Lots of seeds to grow food and flowers. Include horses and other work animals as desired. Useful insects like bees and certain beetles. This is your chance to eliminate cockroaches.

You get to decide what books to take. Maybe some musical instruments. I suggest a wide variety of tools to last until we can make our own.

With some care, we should be able to rebuild civilization. 🙂

Never mind civilisation. What about a brand new realistic flight simulator that runs entirely on an SSD on your own computer and doesn't cost an arm and a leg and has a vast selection of aircraft and airports (including a Concorde and EGCC for Ray)?

Intel i7 6700K @4.3. 32gb Gskill 3200 RAM. Z170x Gigabyte m/b. 28" LG HD monitor. Win 10 Home. 500g Samsung 960 as Windows home. 1 Gb Mushkin SSD for P3D. GTX 1080 8gb.

If it carry's on like this I'm going to offer Elon a deal:

I'll take care of all the animals in my Ark as long as he can put all the social media influencers into orbit around Alpha Centuri...

That's a VERY big Ark. 🤔 All that biomass, plus the food and water to feed them.

I already mentioned eliminating cockroaches. 😄

The good thing about building your own ark (whether it's a boat, a space ship, a bunker or a refuge far from civilization) is that you get to select what to take and what to leave behind. Anyone wanting a different mix is welcome to build their own ark. 🙂

Lord knows it needs some serious repairs.

I presume you intend to build it in your shed? Wood from B&Q? Epoxy coated? Fiberglass?
