It gonna get COLD!

Featured Replies

It gonna get COLD out there! I'm in north Texas and it'll get below freezing about midnight tonight, and stay below freezing until Tuesday about noon. According to windy.com at least. Monday morning is supposed to get to the single digits.

PETA advisory: Keep your brass  monkeys inside for a few days.

One local report was for an inch of ice. It's already raining here with a temperature of 45.

Last time something like this happened, power was out for a week. I was reading Stephen King novels by candlelight. My life was a Stephen King novel. At the time we had propane heat so were OK on that front. Not this time. For Christmas this year we all got propane cooking stoves and heaters.

I expect to stay warm at night, with 7 cats and 2 dogs. Mutually beneficial arrangement.

Some of us may be offline for a while, even if Avsim is up. We'll be back when we can.

Good luck.

How will we ever survive? Well, some of us have our own cats, of course, and are better prepared than some others. I gotta say, no one expected Greenland to deploy its weather in a first strike.

Freezing rain currently and for the next day, followed by an hour or two of ice pellets then an inch of snow. Ice currently forecast to be 1/2 inch.

Id!ot cat Leo demanding loudly to go outside. I'm having to be rude to him.

Might not be a lot of fun, but it won't be the week long horror show it was last time. May or may not lose power or Internet.

Precipitation should be done by Sunday midday with sub-freezing temperatures through Tuesday midday.

I'm optimistic, but I hope the kids are dealing with the various livestock: chickens and sheep and a few miscellaneous. I don't know how well they do with single digit temperatures we'll be getting Monday morning.

Half the cats, more or less, sleep with my wife (she has her own room to avoid my snoring). She doesn't appreciate the cats sleeping with her as much as I do.

Sorry. Normally I just ignore the weather, but this looked to be significant. Shouldn't be as bad as I first thought.

Quite mild here in the land of Jersey. About 8C today (think that's about 47 in Fahrenheit).

So much so that the back door was wide open while the cat sat in the doorway admiring his territory. 😁 I believe its about to get colder in the UK, though.

Stay warm Mr. Hook.

Very cold this morning in central Virginia, 17F.  Forecasts are varying, ranging from snow, changing to sleet, then up to an inch of freezing rain to no snow, 2-3 inches of sleet, then a period of light freezing rain.  Then for the week after this storm, high temperatures will struggle to reach freezing or just above freezing.  Any way you cut it, this is not going to be fun.  I am prepared as best as I can for spending 7-10 days without electrical power.

My computer: ABS Gladiator Gaming PC featuring an Intel 10700F CPU, EVGA CLC-240 AIO cooler (dead fans replaced with Noctua fans), Asus Tuf Gaming B460M Plus motherboard, 16GB DDR4-3000 RAM, 1 TB NVMe SSD, EVGA RTX3070 FTW3 video card, dead EVGA 750 watt power supply replaced with Antec 900 watt PSU.

Good Morning from Nova Scotia. We have -16C (4F) right now, but with the wind chill it feels like -26C (-15 F). And we are at a latitude of N45, about the same as Milan 🙂

Woke up to 9° F/-13° C this morning.  Due to get 8" - 12" of snow with an inch of ice on top.  The temp won't reach the freezing point, 32°f/0°c for about 8 to 9 days.  Very unusual for the Philadelphia area, not our normal winter.  I don't like it🤬

Luckily we got a 1/2 cord of wood this week.  Non-stop fire in the wood stove for the next 10 days.  I pray we don't lose power🙏  There are others north of us far worse off, good luck to them and God speed.

20F here in Roswell right now.  Forecast up to 9 inches of snow.  The city has no snow plows.  The last time we had a snow like this they had to use front loaders to clear the streets.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

That's stinking HOT!  We should all meet in the middle, say about 75°f/24°c🤸‍♂️

Cold and snowing this morning in central Tennessee.  It's -6C(22F) right now, but will warm up later to about 0C(32F) so will get freezing rain for several hours until it goes above freezing.

Texas, Arkansas, and northern Mississippi and Louisiana are the States getting hit the worst with lots of freezing rain.  I hope this won't be a repeat of the awful power 2021 Texas power crisis.  A lot of the wind turbines failed and even natural gas plants shut down back then as they weren't designed for or prepared for the unusually low temperatures.  Hopefully Texas fixed these problems.

It always amazes me that in the USA our power grid is so outdated and primitive that we have to worry every time there's a storm, snow, or freezing rain.  Here we are, the wealthiest country on the planet in the year 2026 and we don't have electricity that we can rely on in inclement weather.  Just shows you where our leaders' priorities lie, and it ain't with us little people.

You can bet all those data and AI computing centers will have 100% reliable power, though.

Quite hot here, eastern Australia 35deg C (95F) to 41deg C (106F) 85% humidity, still, I prefer the heat to the cold - couldn't live in those low temps

Is this the same Santa who brought us all socks and underwear for Christmas every year? 😄  But I agree completely. Socks-and-underwear should have been a separate holiday. 🙂
