Carenado aircraft is getting really bad concerning errors

Sometimes if I am short of time or just can't be bothered I don't really want to 'BlackSquare' it or 'A2A' it, in which case I will 'Carenado' it and just get in and fly. There is plenty of room in my hangar for both. Silly to limit yourself when it is a simulator and you can have whatever you want. And anyone who thinks that any of them are anything like flying a real airplane are deluding themselves anyway 😉

I'm like you sometimes when I want to fly  something simpler. For me I have and like quite a lot is AeroFly 4.

  • True, but at least in FSX and P3D the community could fix most major issues.  Now, not so much.   The issue for me is less the fidelity and system depth - I had a couple of Carenado planes

Same here.  In the past I bought (and enjoyed) a lot of their aircraft and took it for granted that system-wise they were sub par and/or contained multiple bugs Today, with vendors like Blacksquar

Carenado will always have a place in the flight sim hobby. A good percentage of folks still place the visuals over features of system depth and accuracy. The ability to dream in favourite aircraft. Just about everyone remembers the quality of their pilots and aircraft sounds achieved in FSX. For me it was the Skymaster that cemented the Carenado reputation. Some developer legacies remain the same while others change direction. We all now have the choice of what we desire in an aircraft with the explosion of developers sparked by MSFS2020!

It's been said this developer is lacking in everything but the visual department but it's gotten really bad. Not sure on the 2024 side but when I see things like AI popping up for this developer's aircraft when I install them into the sim dragging down in sim performance, performance that is way off for the target aircraft, and the B390 with reverse thrusters modeled for an aircraft that doesn't have them, something is way off.  Then this developer has the gall to encrypt its aircraft in the sim where you can't correct some of these issues is insulting.  I'm done with buying or installing this developer's aircraft if free.  This developer has closed themselves off from direct support, so I thought I'd try one last effort through the official forums to raise awareness with Microsoft that this partner has seriously fallen off 😵‍💫😣🫤:

Carenado QA for it's aircraft is non-existent for MSFS2020 - Bug Reporting Hub / Aircraft & Systems - Microsoft Flight Simulator Forums

It's a shame as visually the aircraft released by Carenado is second to none.  We'll see if Microsoft can shake the cobwebs off of this developer or is putting in a ticket a futile effort...😔

I swore off buying anything from them several simulators and many years ago, despite appreciating their artwork and broad range of aircraft.

while that has been a bit frustrating at times, it has led me to discover good quality addons from other devs that I wouldn’t have considered if I already had  a similar Carenado. Or simply to spend more time with the Hi Fi addons I already have.

and no, I’ll never pretend I’m an uber Serious Simmer who always does a ramp start from cold n dark. Like after work - I already know I can run down a checklist, I just  want to fly 😎

And sure, there are times when I just want to zoom around and sight see, but why spend money on a problematic addon to do it…? With MSFS, there are plenty of Default/simplified planes from which to choose.

And even then, the Longitude (which is actually “Study Level”) is so automated that you can  practically fly it like a C172!

so, no, and now more than ever, there’s no reason to reward a developer who doesn’t take enough pride in their work to fix basic bugs.

The Mentor really is their masterpiece I think. Is it perfect? No, it's a Carenado. But I still love it, unapologetically.

What bugs me is the fact Carenado modelled a Bendix KAP140 autopilot in the panel. As far as I know, in reality this type of autopilot is not certified for the Mentor. I'm nerd enough to let that stop me from purchasing the Mentor 😁

And I'm really not. And anyway, it's my aircraft, I bought it used and had one put in as part of the refurb. So there 😄

Oh dear, don't let the virtual FAA hear about it 😄

By the way, is the autopilot optional and can it be disabled in the Carenado Mentor? If so, I might get it. I like the aircraft.

Disabled? Not that I'm aware no. It can be flown without using it though 😉

But the complaint isn't about system depth or accuracy.  I think most here agree that there's very much a place for Carenado type planes in the sim, even those, like me, who generally prefer something more complete and accurate.  It's the #&$*!+! BUGS that either don't get fixed, or get fixed in a haphazard way.  And the fact that they seem to keep replicating many of those bugs across their products and there's bleep-all the end user can do to fix them.

I actually spent many hours in their Skymaster in FSX and P3D simply because it was a fun plane which always kinda intrigued me IRL, though I never got to fly one.  I get it, I really do and I'd probably have a couple in MSFS if it weren't for...well, y'know.

I had to laugh.  The other day I got an email from them touting a new (or on sale, I really don't remember) plane.  I clicked on the link to look at images because Carenado excels in the visuals and I like "purty pitchers" of airplanes, and I got a 404 error.  Tried it again the following day and, 404.  All I could think was - how Carenado is that!

Yes, as Scott said above, I can wholly live with their 'light' systems.

It's the absolute ream of bugs that come with some most of their releases that has put them on my own blacklist.   And I've kept to that blacklist!  Didn't buy the Premier nor the Mentor, despite both RL aircraft interesting me.  I just know I'd fly them once and never again.

So many bugs and encrypted files in 2024, so Bert Pieke can't fix them!

To be honest, it's been no great sacrifice no longer buying Carenado;s flying textures. If I want a simple, quick and dirty flight, I'll fly the excellent stock C172 (or a mod variation of it) or one of the excellent 3rd party LSA planes... like the Got Friends A32 Vixxen of the Flyboy Rans S6.

I will say the C210 flight model bug was fixed by a discord user.  You have to subscribe to his patreon to get access to his files.  They are pretty good though.

So the Carenado 210 is out of the hangar for me.  It's not a black square or A2A but I've never expected it to be.

The real bird doesn't have thrust reversers...😶

Actually some FJ44’s are retrofitted with thrust reversers or attenuators.  Based on the Carenado video for this aircraft hard to say if the aircraft was retrofitted with thrust reversers (not common but is an option).  Do you see any animation for deployment?

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. - Carl Sagan

Carenado appears to rely heavily on reused code (Copy-Paste) across its aircraft, which may explain why similar bugs occur across multiple models.

It's CanadianCaptainMoustache.  He flies TBM's irl - he has a host of flight mods - some are just light changes some are quite in depth

Can recommend!

The only aircraft I've owned was their sister site "Alabeo", the WACO YMF5 aircraft.  Beautiful bi-wing that is still built irl!
