Without going into further detail, as that's not relevant here: There are very few truly effective anti-piracy measures. MSFS MP is one of them.

I tried the Tristar out at FSWeekend. I done one circuit, so not a huge test, but it seemed excellent.

  • Honestly…if you want the L1011 day one, there’s no reason for anyone to let the marketplace sway them otherwise.  The A340 experience proved that for me, and I just moved it over to INI once I could.

This, in Cathay, at VHHX, will be my next years of flightsimming I’m sure.

I can’t wait, the TriStar rules.

My first flight when I was a baby was on a Caledonian L1011 on holiday out of Gatwick in the early 90s.

I can't wait to pick this up! What an awesome machine.

British Caledonian actually operated dc10s and skipped the l1011, but I’d still love to see a bcal livery for this one!

They did have DC-10's in the early days, but they also had some British Airtours Tristar's when they were merged under the British Airways group.  The poster was probably relating to this.
They were called Caledonian Airways then.  They still had the famous logo though.

Rob (but call me Bob or Rob, I don't mind).

I like to trick airline passengers into thinking I have my own swimming pool in my back yard by painting a large blue rectangle on my patio.

Other companies who don't even have their own store app manage to deal with piracy problems so I'm going to remain extremely sceptical of this claim.

They stated it on the official MSFS Stream.

People have stated things before that haven't been true.
So I remain skeptical.

I also remember them stating piracy was the main issue for launching from the Market Place initially.

Sure.  It's all a conspiracy.

Never mind the fact that Inibuilds knows they'll sell a lot more units by offering it for sale through both the MP and their own store on day one.  Somehow they've come to the conclusion that it's in their best interest to offer it only through the MP and then, once sales taper off and the impact of piracy will be much less, offer it through other venues.

It could be that, or it could be they're doing this just to annoy you.

It's interesting to note that apparently aircraft sales have a far longer tail than traditional game sales so just protecting them for a short period would have far less effect.

So for that, and other reasons, I remain skeptical.

I know you don't like that, but ultimately that's your problem.

Sometime ago I asked when Inibuilds made it possible, to install my A340-300 through their store, but a few days ago, after having a problem starting MSFS 224 that I was not able to solve in any other way, I reinstalled it and pushed the 340 through the Marketplace.

The only thing I do with the modules I use the most is pushing them into my rig frm the Cloud, and installing them locally. I do that with the Aircraft, Airports and Scenery Updates and Regions I use the most in my flights.

I like it, and as I once wrote, should it get the necessary stability and fast updates, I am all for a Centralized source for all addons, in any simulation platform. That's actually what Ilike about DCS World and IL2 Great Battles, as well as now Aces of Thunder too.

3pds should be able to gain with their work, but the companies running the base platform and in the case of MSFS surely the amount of $$$ required to maintain it, should get a parcel of their income if we want them to keep it running, and avoid "new version" every 4 years or the like...

Yes, these were the ones! Caledonian was a charter airline owned by British Airways and operated through the 1990s. They operated leisure flights from London Gatwick and Manchester to popular holiday destinations mostly in Spain and Portugal.

They operated mostly L1011, DC10 and were just bringing in A320s towards the end of the 90s, before a long and complex sequence of mergers followed through the 2000s and saw them eventually becoming Thomas Cook Airlines. The L1011s were retired and scrapped by 2000, the DC10s lasted a little longer.

Not so, m'lord.  It has no effect on me one way or another, other than a temporary source of humor.  My own life has far more important issues for me to concern myself with. 😄

I can recall when I was very young flying on the Tristar from Manchester several times, I'm sure it was American Trans Air MAN-MCO and Delta MAN-ATL. I think we also did the DC-10 with Monarch to Sanford. All of these required a stop for fuel too.

I can also remember on one return we left Orlando in our shorts and t-shirts but had to stop in Bangor or Gander (I can't remember which) for a fuel stop where it was -10°c and snowing.... And in those days everybody had to leave the aircraft for refuelling...!

Really looking forward to this one, I love nostalgia aircraft.

I would have thought ALL of the routes you named were possible without a fuel stop in a Tristar?

cheers,
