I currently have a 1080p PC monitor and am looking to upgrade. Something modest, but my question is, is it worth it? will I notice an improvement. I fly Fenix A320

I have a AMD 5800x3D CPU and RX 9070XT with 32GB of DDR4 ram.

I'd go for a wide-screen (or even curved) monitor if you can - then keep your old monitor to use as a 2nd screen. PBTech are usually pretty good for prices.

Agree with the suggestion above. Move up to a 32 or 34" wide screen (1440p) and keep the 2nd monitor for addons ( i use mine for flight planning and flight tracking) and the main one for the sim.

Remember to assess your GPU to ensure it can run more pixels.1.78x more pixels for 32" or 2.39x more pixels for 34" when compared to your current monitor and also driving it in addition to the new one.

If you want to live your experience as in real life dimension and do not want VR for any reason, buy yourself a 4K projector (like Epson) and a screen, you will be totally immersed and look at panels with instruments displaying at the correct real dimension with no necessity to zoom on anything, using Track IR will complete the deal. I made that choice more than 20 years ago and never regretted it.

They might be a game changer for someone coming from a 16:9 flat panel, but in no way are they comparable to VR.

I can't speak for that particular monitor but yes, this is probably the best guaranteed upgrade you can do and you will notice a huge difference in quality. I say 'guaranteed' because as a relatively modest resolution upgrade you are unlikely to have performance issues and by staying at 32" you will still get a great sharpness boost at 2560 x 1440. I say this from personal experience, as this is the configuration I run.

I have seen others recommend ultra-wide displays, but I would caution against this even if you are using a head tracker. The ultra-wide aspect ratios do not match your natural human vision so you will inevitably have dead space in your peripheral vision regardless of how close you sit. All the old arguments against 3-screen displays apply to modern ultra-wide displays, except more so because unless you spend silly money you display will be smaller than a traditional 3-screen setup. You will end up with a narrow letterbox, which limits your view of the cockpit and usually means you will zoom out too far, which in turn means you will notice distortion of the image at the extreme left and right of the image. If you're going to do this, you'd honestly be better buying a big 4K screen. This will cost less than an ultra-wide screen, and it will let you run an ultra-wide aspect display in a window, or a proper 16:9 aspect with or without a head tracker.

VR is not a straight alternative, even if your PC can run it acceptably. I have a Big Screen Beyond 2e, and the performance and quality are good but I am still ambivalent because of the major compromises VR requires. Even using the radios and GPS is painfully clunky with VR.

If you got the funds go all out, I just recently upgraded my 32" 4k monitor to the newest OLED version of it and it was the best decision I've ever made. I never knew how much I was missing out on by not having an OLED panel. Already thinking about buying another to replace my second monitor, it's that good!

Never regretted switching to an UW 34" (2K) from my older 27" 1080p. Immediate and apparent difference. Budget-friendly too!👍

Go as wide as your budget can go. I still have two x 32" Curved. Now I use the Samsung G9 49inch. Tempted to go the 57inch soon but fear I'll need a crane to hold it to the desk. The adjustable mounting arm works very hard!

I like what MarkDH said. I also would not recommend an ultra wide for MSFS

The monitor you want is a nice upgrade and will not hurt you in any way.

Will you notice a difference ? in what way do you mean.

I never regretted going from 27 to 32. It was well worth the upgrade.

Suggestion, Depending on your finances and space, you may want to to think about spending a little more money and follow Max advice.

I now have an LG C5 42 inch (Could not fit anything bigger on my desk) and that was a game changer. Maybe look for a C4 (would be cheaper)

I'm considering a similar change. Since I still use FSX and P3D (for planes that never made it to MSFS2024), and some of them have no VC but the good old 2D panels, I'll be sticking to 16:9. But would my 16GB 5060Ti be able to drive a 2560x1440 monitor while flying the Fenix without issues? I currently fly MSFS2024 at 1080p, using DLSS-DLAA.

I am in the same boat as the OP. Currently running an LG 27" 1080p monitor with my 3090 and I am looking into upgrading to 1440p to benefit from a larger screen and from the VRAM headroom I have (total of 24 GB). I know the 3090 is powerful enough to drive the 1440p monitor and another smaller monitor or two for popped instruments but will the 14400F bottleneck me at all or no?

With these monitors being 180 Hz, can I still limit them to 60 Hz in Windows so that I continue locking the sim at 30 FPS and using Lossless Scaling to achieve 60 FPS?
