  1. Thank you for sharing the link. Given the slim study-level offerings for the most popular sim, it's likely the evident migration away from P3D is from users valuing visual scenery over system and procedural simulation as immersion factors. For the latter group, migration speed will be based on the speed of available study-level airplanes on the popular sim and we know that's not going to happen overnight. This, of course, given P3D remains as is with no major update (graphics engine, etc.). David
  2. You may need to at least: Delete the P3D v5 shaders at C:\Users\your user account name\AppData\Local\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\Shaders Delete your \Users\your user account name\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v5\Prepar3D.cfg file
  3. @Druce, did you run Delete Generated Files from your Prepar3D v5 folder?
  4. @Caribe, have you posted this in their forum? I see a posting there about installation errors. Have you tried to download the two airplanes again now that their servers are not busy?
  5. HiFi Simulations has released ASP3D Open Beta v8027 supporting: P3D v5.3, P3D v5.3 HF1, P3D v5.3 HF1 + Lights Fix Update, P3D v5.2 with HF1, v5.1 with HF1, P3D v5.0 with HF2, and P3D v4.5 with HF3)
  6. ORBX gives you the option to install its products in an external library. This external library could be located in a folder that is outside the P3D folder. I recommend you install your ORBX products that way. Hopefully this answers your question.
  7. What would happen when, and if, there are "high-fidelity modern airliners" in MSFS? What would happen if LM's main clients (defense, etc.) stop buying P3D? Are these clients OK with the current P3D look and feel, or would they prefer the MSFS scenery look? Is LM developing P3D further, i.e., a new graphic engine?
  8. PACSIM says: "MSFS KSLC first and then P3DV5 to follow." There are no timelines, but I didn't ask nor was expecting one. We know most of these type of projects take about a year to complete. It's comforting to see that, at least for now, PACSIM plans to update KSLC for P3Dv5. As we all know, business plans do change since a good company must continuously adapt to the business landscape. While we know that at this moment the sales are with MSFS, PACSIM's statement offers a glimpse of hope and a sense of loyalty to their P3D customers. I plan to buy both versions. Dave
  9. Read the same but nothing after that. I've just asked in their Facebook page. As a business, it's likely their focus will remain on MSFS. Will post here whenever answer I get. Meanwhile, I'm glad we still have their current KSLC version for P3D.
  10. Interesting discussion. Taking advantage of PMDG's sale for P3D (ends today), I just purchased the B744 and B748. Been meaning to get into those birds for a while. Haven't flown them since FSX. I'm sure I will have to buy them again for MSFS, but figured I would take advantage of what's here now.
  11. Just for completeness sake, LM's Rob McCarthy replied to the P3D forum thread saying ... Thanks for the report. We are aware of the issue and looking into the cause. Regards, Rob McCarthy
  12. Seems like the OP already decided. Congratulations on your decision.
  13. I'm sure Laminar Research is enjoying these developments. At the moment, XP12 is looking good. Timing is everything.
  14. External lights seem to be working for me on the A320. I see beacon, position, landing, etc.
  15. @IAhawkeyeDDS Wish I could give you the correct answer right away, but just based on your description, I wonder if you forgot to uninstall the top entry app. Here's what worked for me. I had P3D5.2. Deleted the P3D 5.2 shaders folder Using Windows' "Add or Remove Programs" app, uninstalled the P3D v5 client and when asked if I want to deactivate P3D v5, answered "No" Also using "Add or Remove Programs", I uninstalled content, scenery, and finally the top P3D v5 entry. Downloaded the full P3D 5.3 installer, extracted it to the desktop, and ran it as Administrator. Using Orbx Central, ran the Settings -> Help -> Sync Simulator since I have all the Orbx stuff installed outside the P3D main folder. So far, everything runs OK. I'm sure others may have a better suggestion for you. Hope it all works for you soon. Dave
  16. @zkerr8 do you have their latest patch for 5.3 compatibility?
  17. I just got one, the first one after making Ray's changes. Flying P3D's latest version, Aerosoft A320, Radar Contact, Active Sky. 😞 Received the message when trying to un-pause the sim.
  18. Nice and informative discussion. Hopefully it stays civil. I think LM priced P3D based on product type and its main customers. Add-on developers just followed suit. P3D was produced by Lockheed Martin (defense contractor) as a trainer product for defense/military customers to rehearse military missions. P3D is based on Microsoft's ESP (the commercial use version of MS Flight Simulator X SP2, which LM purcha$ed its intellectual property and source code from Microsoft). Though using P3D to rehearse a military mission is less expensive to a military customer than rehearsing using other methods/products, it's likely LM priced P3D based on its intended primary customer and what LM had invested to bring P3D to market (original retail license was $499). My guess is that non-defense contractor add-on developers priced their products in the same fashion. I'm almost sure we will never see a P3D version for the Xbox Series. MSFS is a remarkable entertainment product that simulates "... various aspects of flight or the flight environment for purposes other than flight training or aircraft development." I participated in its alpha/beta test and just purchased it. I'm still certain that most P3D users will eventually migrate to MSFS. As an entertainment product, like MS FSX and its predecessors (I started with subLOGIC's Flight Simulator for the C64 and still have the boxes and software for MSFS 1 through X) its customers use it for different purposes (flying airlines for me). One way to see product pricing similar to P3D vs MSFS is by comparing pricing for the military and civilian versions of the HMMWVs. A civilian version with all kinds of creature conform went for around $65,000 where the spartan military version price hovers around $220,000.
  19. Here's another flight sim community pattern that can be seen in almost every new driver update: One or a few say the new driver is out and that it's the best thing since sliced bread. Thank you for the notice, good for you it's working great. A few others say they installed it but didn't see any improvements. Some others even argue with these people. Others say the 'if it isn't broken, don't fix it" thing. Don't know why the need to say this every time, but some do. I'm glad it's working great for those that see a change.
  20. Did you use the P3Dv4 uninstallers deleting all its components?
  21. Obviously there's something wrong with your installation else everywhere else would be spending hours clicking. Not having details, recommend uninstall and a reinstall. Did you search the AIG OCI forum?
  22. @Les Parson, no other consideration. Recommend uninstalling what you installed in P3Dv4 (scenery, airplanes, etc.) and then uninstall P3Dv4. Let's not open another P3D vs MSFS thread. If you're enjoying MSFS, great. P3D and MSFS are not religions or political parties. No need to recruit converts. Please continue helping others but do not convert. There are still avsim readers happily using FS9.
  23. @DA2XX it's called a "Short Final" request. From page 57 of the RC manual: "You can ask Approach for a Short Final, an early turn onto base/final anytime while on their downwind legs. Short final is available on the AdvDisp page 2. Approach will accommodate this request according to traffic load."
  24. I either ask for a visual approach whenever possible or for "the full ILS" approach. I'm then responsible for my own guidance until close to the field where Approach asks me to contact Tower. You could also tell ATC that you could "take any shortcuts they may have." This normally results in a much shorter downwind.
  25. @Wanthuyr Filho Have you tried using Tools > Load Stock Data and check Scenery Objects in ADE to see if you can remove these things that way?
