  1. Thank you @Chapstick. I've done as you suggested: In P3D Display VSync: Off Triple Buffering: unchecked Variable Refresh Rate: Checked Target frame rate: Unlimited In Nvidia Control Panel G-Sync: Enabled for windowed and full screen mode On Manage 3D settings and for P3D: Max Frame Rate: 36 FPS Monitor Technology: G-SYNC This resulted in a very smooth flying experience. I don't know why others say that P3D can't take advantage of G-sync. Maybe they were talking about an earlier version. Again, thank you. David
  2. I'm confused. I read elsewhere that G-sync doesn't help P3D. The preference is to set ones monitor to 1/2 refresh rate and limit frames between 30 and 40. So I have set my 144 Hz, G-sync monitor to 60 Hz and limited frames with Nvidia CP to 30 (unlimited in P3D). Would my performance be better using G-sync?
  3. I had to do both, answered "yes" to the prompt and, later, remove it using Lorby's P3D Addon Organizer.
  4. Thank you @kevinfirth. I also found this article useful. I'm guessing the objective is to limit the number of cores P3D uses in order to have the free core(s) for other non-P3D tasks. If so, there are so many combinations that there's no way to have a set one that works for everyone. It also means that it would take a while for everyone that tries to find the best combination. Given that, it would be nice to have a repository listing what folks have already tried, including their hardware. At least with that one could start by trying the combination closest to what one has.
  5. Even with the link to the AM calculator, I still don't understand how to select the correct number. Are the '1' (ones) in the binary number the logical processors you want for p3d to use, or the ones you want it to avoid using? Sorry for being so dense on this.
  6. Thank you Eric. Nice to see they're offering a discount for users of previous versions.
  7. So, based on what would be the affinity mask entry for an Intel Core i7-8700K CPU (6 cores with 12 LPs) with HT on? In the Prepar3D.cfg file, I would have... [JOBSCHEDULER] AffinityMask=???
  8. @w6kd, is there a way to pin your post for those not sure what do upgrade to?
  9. @clive6354, like polosim said, your call. There are other threads here with the same question. For performance: v5 If you have an aversion to EA: v4 If you want to tell LM what they should do: post in their forum
  10. To my knowledge, there is no standard list of designated alternates for each airport for everyone to use. Airlines may have their list of recommended alternates but I'm sure those lists are developed and maintained over time. Given this, how does one go about selecting an alternate for a flight plan? One internet site list: 1) Distance. You don't want to choose an alternate that's too close to your original destination - your chances of finding better weather could be slim. ... 2) Approaches. ... 3) Nonstandard Alternate Minimums. ... 4) Weather Forecasts. ... 5) Fuel Requirements. ... 6) Services. I would add recommendations from other pilots/dispatchers. What other criteria would you add? David
  11. @sonny147, Do you know of a way to get "adaptive ( half refresh rate)" in the NCP's Vertical sync drop down? I only see: Use 3d application setting Off On Fast
  12. Have you considered your video driver version? I recently had an issue with stutters and decided to downgrade from the latest video driver to an earlier version: stutters went away.
  13. I think it is drying up. I'm sure you noticed many developers switched their efforts to MSFS since that platform has or will have more customers than P3D, more so now that it's available for Xbox. If you look at any sim site, most news are about new plans or releases for MSFS products. This exodus will increase as soon as payware tubeliner developers start releasing their products on MSFS. I see LM focusing on features that make P3D more usable for their defense clients, and that makes sense.
  14. Looks like the ASP3D patch (7851) is out.
  15. Gary, most addon aircraft come with an installer that automates the install process. Besides the traditional install process, there's the xml method introduced with P3Dv4. So, the location varies. If you're interested in more details about this method or want to install or move aircraft, search the forum for the xml add on method.
  16. @Airbus, have you tried to install it on FSX? Have you installed it into a dummy FS9 folder and then copy its folder into FSX's ...\SimObjects\Airplanes folder?
  17. If FSX:SE was bad, everybody that has it would be disappointed. As you can see, that's not the case. If you don't figure out what's the problem before branching in another direction, it's likely you will bring the problem with you.
  18. This is, once again, when Taxi2Gate should offer a just-in-time patch. It amazes me why some of our good developers miss these opportunities.
  19. @calypso, I just checked the default KSFO scenery for FSX:SE and everything seems fine. Ensure you have the correct frequency of 111.7. I bet you're using 110.75. That frequency will result in the kind of localizer you're seeing.
  20. Have you installed any other ATC or ATC chatter application? If you're using an ATC program, have you turned on a background chatter feature?
  21. This is a flight sim drama thread. If you're unhappy with LM and/or P3D and have decided to turn against either of them, please leave the forum. It doesn't make sense that you would be here if you are anti P3D. Recommend a forum that aligns with your preferences in simulator features and company policies on information flow. Are you not capable of leaving by yourself? There's no need to create a mob to leave P3D with you. If you're upset with LM, please tell them in their forum because it's more likely they will read that one over this one.
  22. Very well put @neilhewitt. Thank you. David
  23. You could make it work on v5, but it's not a plug and play process.
  24. @WestEnd, the visual glideslope indicators in some P3D default scenery airports do not match the real airport's counterpart. Most that don't show Visual Approach Slope Indicator (VASI) instead of Precision Approach Path Indicator (PAPI) lights. Others don't show lights at all. I've noticed P3Dv5 runways tend to be more current than previous versions.
