  1. Brian, You should be able to pop into the BIOS and set the CPU to run at the 4.4 GHZ "turbo-boost" speed all the time. This is well within the specs of the CPU and would answer your question as to whether or not over-clocking was going to benefit your system. With an older H60, I see a max of 65C under load in P3D v 2.4. Respectfully, Brian
  2. Greetings, One of the best ways to answer many of your questions would be to download the latest version of FSUIPC. The freeware version and PAYWARE version are the same file; once you pay for it and register FSUIPC, it unlocks all the fun stuff. But you can get the documentation for free. 1. The PAYWARE version gives you the ability to assign axes, buttons and key strokes. It has a more efficient joystick calibration routine. It has more controls that can be assigned to a button/switch than via the FSX menu. You can create aircraft profiles, which customize button/switch and axes assignments based on the aircraft you're flying. No more reconfiguring the joystick when swapping from the J3 Cub to the Lear Jet. Utilities such as centering the aileron trim when activating the autopilot, dampening controller spikes, extending the battery life among others. I also ran a real-world Garmin 295 GPS via the GPSOUT setting of FSUIPC; it was pretty cool having FSX and the Garmin synced together 2. My favorite/most useful feature would have to be the profiles feature... 3. Yes! This is one of the greatest things FSUIPC does. Unfortunately I can't provide insight into WideFS as I do not use it. However, just like FSUIPC, you can download the program and read all the documentation to see if it will do what you need it to before you pay for it. Respectfully, Brian
  3. Greetings, You might try checking your clock settings in the BIOS/CMOS to make sure it is set to the appropriate time - your local and not showing Dalight Savings Time (yet). Respectfully, Brian
  4. Greetings, The actual files for FSGlobal are in their own directory on whichever drive you allowed it to install (in my case D:\FSG2010) That folder will be several GB in size, but NOT within the Flightsim itself. In your Flightsim directory you should find a folder PILOTS_Software\FS GLOBAL 2010 (or similar) which weighs in on my system at around 31 MB. A quick check of your Scenery Library, from within the Sim, should show a series of "FS GLOBAL 2010 - " entries: FS GLOBAL 2010 - Local Meshes, FS GLOBAL 2010 - North America etc. if you see those, the product has installed properly. Respectfully, Brian
  5. Bob, On their forum is a link a list just like that. Unfortunately I'm on my iPad, and away from home, so I ca't get the URL for you at the moment. Respectfully, Brian
  6. Greetings all, A weather engine IS the way to go... The major PAYWARE solutions offer free demos to help you decide which you like best; or which plays best with your system... Respectfully, Brian
  7. Greetings, You need to search the forums for "missing taxi ways." If you open up the AFCAD in ADE 1.60, freeware available here (I think), and reset the flags to TRUE, and save the changes, then the textures and taxiways reappear. Respectfully, Brian
  8. Greetings All, Daniel, what resolution are your cloud textures in/from REX4? Somewhere, perhaps the Opus forum, I read that the 512 textures actually look better and run much smoother. It seems to work for me - I did a clean install of 2.3, not an upgrade.. Respectfully, Brian
  9. Hi, Regardless of what the FPS numbers say when you're flying with them locked in the sim, is it smooth and "flyable"? If so, turn off the counter, use THAT setting and enjoy! Respectfully, Brian
  10. Greetings All, You might enjoy this thread from the forums about RealAir's entrance into the P3D arena. http://forum.avsim.net/topic/450241-realair-is-coming-to-p3d/ Respectfully, Brian
  11. Greetings All, Bill, if you do wind up doing a re-install, try Firehawk's suggestion and disable the antivirus during all installs. I may be tempting fate here, but since including that step in my instal process 4 years ago, I've not seen the issues that are being reported here and elsewhere. I have a very detailed response from a major developer that explained why many of the software folks recommend disabling AV. Made sense to me and I was a Intel/Telecom geek for 22 yrs in the Army. Respectfully, Brian
  12. Greetings, With FSX, it is the processor speed that is King, not the cores, 4.0Ghz is much better than 3.6. Respectfully, Brian
  13. Greetings, As a guess, I'd say the flap 0 zone is too small OR the zone between the flap settings is too small. I use FSUIPC, not the Saitek Drivers, and in order to get the flaps to work correctly I need to set a minimum size for both the flap detent zone and the space between the detents. So, fully retracted might be 1600 - 1500, the space between detents 1499 - 1300, Flap 1 detent 1299 - 1200, next space 1199 - 1000 .... And so on. These numbers were made up to give an example as I'm on the iPad, not my gaming PC. FSUIPC uses a range of about +1630 to -1630 and can handle ten flap detents, though I'm a GA type and so far have only programmed 5 total. I hope this might help. Slightly wider detent zones make the spikes less likely to interfere with the flaps staying put and the "transit zones" on either side further protect your flap settings and make it easier to engage them. Respectfully, Brian
  14. Greetings All, A2A Simulation's Cessna C172 also comes outfitted with the Bendix KAP-140 with the Baro button. Respectfully, Brian
  15. Hi Randy, I used the FS Genesis 38m stuff when I was flying FS2004 and it makes a world of difference in Idaho (live in Elk River, ID85). I'm currently running P3D v2 and a good mesh when flying outside of the Orbx regions is a necessity for me. (Orbx also puts ID85 in its proper place) Be aware that you may have to edit the scenery (?) config so it can fully utilize the mesh. Respectfully, Brian
  16. Greetings All, Unfortunately I cannot find the article that talked about this airport on the iPad. However, it seems that the massive amount of interior detail was to have the exterior look "REAL" when looking at (through) the windows. I guess the developers weren't satisfied with the generic glass for their latest creation. Brian
  17. It looks to me that the tail numbers are just a bad repaints job; speaking as one who has been there and done that. Sorry, but I'm not seeing your issue. Under magnification, both photos have almost identical jaggies in all the places you've marked. However, 1. Are you in windowed or full-screen mode and 2. Did The sim set the video card to the max monitor resolution of your monitor, or the same resolution as before? Brian
  18. You say you're using FSUICP, so is it correct to say that you have DISABLED all weather functions within FSUICP? If not, that could be your problem.
  19. Greetings All, You know, one thing we forgot to do was ask the OP, Spilok what his style of flying is. After all, all you airline types won't find high resolution mesh near as useful as I will flying GA in central Idaho. Additionally, the FTX Compatible version comes with a handy "Airport Elevation Correction" utility that mitigates the worst of the plateau effects, though nothing helps when Microsoft puts the Airport in the wrong place. For example, my home field of ID85 is misplaced 1-1.5 Km east of where it should be. In FSX & P3D, that puts it inside the ridge... Orbx correctly places it in the valley where it belongs, while the Butte and said ridge are much more realistic after adding Pilot's (or FSGenesis') mesh. Points to ponder. Respectfully, Brian
  20. Greetings All, Mman, your information is a bit dated. Holger did indeed do mesh work for some of the earlier Orbx stuff, most notably Australia. However, this is taken from the "FTX Definitiive Orbx Product Guide (Feb 2014), page 6: FS Global 2010: FTX Edition This product is actually not an ORBX product, but has been developed by Pilot's Software in close collaboration with ORBX. FS Global 2010 has already established itself as a top quality worldwide terrain mesh, the FTX edition simply provides a downloadable version. ****It is also the mesh used by the ORBX developers and testers.**** Respectfully, Brian
  21. Greeting All, The FS Global FTX compatible mesh is THE terrain mesh used by the Orbx design teams when they are designing their products. By my way of thinking, it makes sense to use the same mesh that the designers use... Which I do and am very satisfied with. Respectfully, Brian
  22. Greetings, Sometimes in the VC you have to play with the height to get it to look correct. That is, the original ratio may not work because of the panel design, gauge design, phase of the moon and such. I've had success adjusting the height even if it wound up being an incorrect ratio - it usually looks good and works well. Respectfully, Brian
  23. Greetings, Actually VeryBumpy, the folks on the forums are extremely helpful, though they do ask that you list which products you've purchased in your signature. Raul, the official Orbx web site offers a Google Earth .kmz file for each Region which will list all the airports in that specific area. Hope this helps. Respectfully, Brian
