Wilco's new Airbus?

Featured Replies

Sure,Lets start with the FBW system, These systems are extra-ordinarily complex and we could spend hours talking only about the operation of the ELAC, SEC, and FAC computers, their interaction with the FMGC, their Laws and Downgrades, respective ECAM Functions, etc.Notice that none of the above is modeled, besides for "Normal Law" (And that's not even fully modeled)I'd be interested to do tests on the Flap/Slat computer's interaction with the SEC's and Spoiler operation, as I recall it's almost certainly not fully modeled. There are also beautifully made diagrams of which ELAC's control which Aileron Hydraulic systems (ELAC one operates the blue hydraulic system on the left aileron, and the green hydraulic system on the right aileron, and is the first priority of the two ELAC systems, Elac two is exactly the opposite in control of ELAC one for the respective hydraulic system/aileron, and is of Second Priority for the servo loop....).The A320 is extra-ordinarily complex, the wilco barely scratches the surface of it's systems. the "MCDU" is only one of the most visible items of so many more pieces. in the inner workings and operation of the airplane. It's a pretty light airplane system wise compared with what's been done by other developers. Like I said, it's not a bad airplane, but it's fairly simplified in light of the airplane it's trying to model. (Compared with the very accurate boeing sims available for FS)There's also the matter of exactly what the different FBW laws do, and the way it's been modeled by Wilco. Even their "Normal Law" is not "Right" in that at high speeds you have just as much authority over the ailerons as at low speed. the FBW increases/decreases the aileron command to achieve a specific roll rate. FBW system does not hold Pitch, it holds G........ Autotrim is Not Fly by Wire, it's not 1/100th of the FBW system, and is ultimately just another "Pilot Assist" feature of the MANY pilot assisting features in an Airbus, most of which are not in the Wilco, or in any A320 that's been released as of Today.Ryan.
...and your expecting all that from a $50 addon? Your in dream land, even PMDG, and Level-D doesn't model every system, although they come close within the limits of FS! It may be light by your unrealistic expectations, but by today's FS standards, it's a pretty complex bird.

Thanks

If you ask me: Even with the "stunning new features" of Wilco's "improvement pack", their Aribus series will still be only a vague compromise between "fact and fiction" and remain only what I'd name a "light" version of an A320 series.
Interesting comment since you have no idea what is really in the update.Anyways, even if it is considered "light" I will surely welcome it. I have enough "complex" add-ons as it is, and to be honest, I don't even really have the time to fly them that often. I am glad to see some developers coming out with more mid-range products like QW, CLS, etc.. I am pretty much over add-ons that require 30 min to get going.

ErhemYou may want to actually read all that has been written. There's no Hypocrisy in anything that I've said. This especially lends itself as true in post number 26 detailing my opinion. Thus I'd prefer you not sit and bash and look silly as to make false statements which have no basis in fact. (That's all I've got to say as far as that subject goes.)Best,Ryan.

whats interesting about this is how quickly this is becoming a discussion ala nintendo64 vs playstation vs sega saturn...then fans were all hyped up about how great a company's upcoming product is, but nobody has played any of the systems as yet (as they havent been released)...basically what im trying to say is, its best to wait until the offerings from aerosoft, wilco's updated version, flight 1, air simmer, (possibly) PMDG, etc. all are released before an accurate comparison can be made as to who's more realistic, who simulates what better...etc, as none of us normal simmers have really tried them hands on as yet.even if a developer is known to be top-tier in their current offerings, the reality is, every dog has its day. all can make a really great simulation of one tye of aircraft, but average or even poorly in another. everyone will make promises because at the end of it all, their selling their product.on a more humourous note though, how many of us real pilots here really think about whether the 80486 processors in the FAC/ELAC/SEC's run at 33.3 or 66.6 mHz during normal ops? or try to willingly overspeed the aircraft for that matter to see if the system works (instant suspension for most pilots i guarantee!! lol)?just my two cents

Just out of curiosity, how does the Wilco A318 compare with the Project Airbus version?

So what exactly do you consider as "light" and what as "hard core"? The Wilco A320 is in my mind no light aircraft. The Overland series of aircraft are light, and the default ones are light. Planes stop being light when there is a FMGC, VNAV and LNAV, after which it enters the realm of "medium" aircraft. According to your own logic, if the Wilco Airbus is light, than the LDS767 is medium, and the PMDG 747 is hard core, as is the PMDG MD-11.I personally am rather pleased to hear that there will be an update (but why must it come right after I completed my simflight review about this plane -.-). i hope that the remaining issues will be fixed. One thing they absolutely must fix is the FDE problem. If they do not fix that, many other problems are sure to remain.I'll also add one more thing: the only completely reliable plane I know off is the LDS767. Nothing I know gets better than that plane. It always works. Also the PMDG 747 does not always work as I want it to.
I 100% agree with Benjamin. light to me is something like default overland, etc etc

3D modelNot too bad but the PA and others are better.TexturesTextures are not that good and are rather dull. This is why I definitely recommend merging with the PA Airbus model.Flight modelVCSee for your self!
I am assuming that the Wilco version has a better VC than the default A321?Bear in mind here that the flight modelling is far more important to me than automatic flight systems and procedures. I prefer to hand fly my planes, and I would like to be able to do that with the A318.

Thanks

Probably the same reason Scoob isn't..
Not to mention Flightsimlabs intention of producing one as well. Looks as though there will be an abundance of choice.
I would still bet my top dollar that FSL's A3xx will be better than all the others put together!! :(
