Re: NGX impending release: Are we there yet?

core 2s are very capable. I ran fsx very nicely on my q6600 system. However, the core i7 machines run the simulator much faster. How many gigaflops of information can these processors manage nowadays?
I don't doubt that you had great experience but are you running stock FSX? I know with my duo core when I added all the addons like FTX, utx, ut2, Rex 2 with high res clouds and a complex airplane landing at an addon airport my core 2 was brought to it's knees.

Why do yo feel like a lot of people you will need to upgrade for the NGX or worried if you upgrade 2 or 4 weeks too early for this aircraft that your computer wont be good enough?.
I can't believe people who are looking at spending serious dosh before they've even tried the NGX on their existing rigs! Mine's two years old as well, it isn't an i7 either, and I ain't worried!

I don't think the NGX will be the problem. I have confidence in PMDG to optimize the aircraft as much as possible. As I stated before, it is not just he addon aircraft it is the addition of all the scenery, ai and weather addons that have a cumulative effect. When you add all these together it may result in the need for some upgrades.

I came from a Core 2 overclocked to 4.2 GHz. I thought I was happy then... :(

Dual cores could do well i think. I couldnt be sure but hey.

Well funny you all should say that. I'm running a i7 980x now. So theoretically 107 gigaflops is a ton of calculations! FSX on the q6600 system was run quite standard with utx, gex, asx and a bunch of city addons and such. It worked very well as I spent hours upon hours optimizing the system. Now the i7 just blows through it. But the core 2 processors are not exactly stone age. They were such a huge change in micro-architecture that all intel processors are now based off. They, to me, essentially ushered in an era of very very fast computing.

We're speaking about Core 2s. Not necessarily dual cores as the Core 2 line has quad core processors as well. Hence Core 2 "Duo" and Core 2 "Quad". Anyway, what you say is not the case. There's a wealth of knowledge else where on Avsim's forums that suggest otherwise, and I can tell you from personal experience.Anyway, we're losing topic here. Sorry.

Pretty much who ever has an MD11 Beta signature (like me) are NGX beta pilots too but; 1) we don't have the NGX banners yet and, 2) it's not in beta so what would we say?EDIT: And because this has happened in the past, DO NOT bombard us with PM's about the NGX. They'll only be ignored.

Dang, there goes my theory that the NGX was in Beta and had not yet been reported to us (based on Robert's post). Like I said before, this is why I never bet. :(
