Captain Sim 777?!

I'm gonna go against conventional wisdom and comment on this. It's taboo for developers to comment against other developers, but I am (was) a customer of their product...so I will comment as such.It seems to be their thing to hurry releases of exterior models when a competitor has the same model up their sleeve. Back in the day, Captain Sim was planning to do a 767 before Level-D released their classic product. Once Level-D released their 767 and it was apparent that nobody on the planet was going to out do it, CS shifted focus (and dropped the 767-400 as well) onto the 757...which at the time Level-D announced. Side note: I just released how long the community has been waiting for the LDS 757 as I'm typing this lol.Anyways, CS released the 757 in this same exterior model firstmanner, in an attempt to lure in some customers, and promised them Full systems programming later in that same year. For those of you who remember this whole fiasco, you know just how long it took for that to actually happen.Choose carefully, and know what your are buying before you buy ;-)

I actually purchased the CS B772 (shell) last night. Once installed, I found that I had no sound (the sound.cdf was an alias to the 737-800 stock sound), but by moving the entire FSX 737-800 sound folder into the CS772 folder it now works (as good as the default 737-800 sound is!). I'm not sure why the alias never worked, I was too tired after work to figure it out.I have never "flown" the FSX B744 (I have the PMDG one), so I'm not sure if this is an FSX bug or not, but I found that the VC (uses the FSX B744 panel) wouldn't allow AP on/off, or other relativelty simple AP functions to work. Whether they work in the 2D panel or not, I'm not sure. More of an FSX B744 issue I think.Adding to what others have said here- the wing flex and other animations are awesome, and the wing textures ( in wing view) are really nice- even to the oil streaks from the spoilers and wing flaps. The flaperons appear to be actuated just like the real thing as far as control movement is concerned (these are not simply hinged like those on other aircraft, but actually extend when the control surface is moved). However, unlike flaperons, they do not extend when flaps are deployed.I'm not one for external views (other than wings), but they look good. What I have yet to verify, since they include United and American Airlines models, is if the different engine types are either visually or functionally modelled (UA has P&W, AA has RR Trent engines- and they look very different from the outside).Of course, no systems or B772 VC, so flying it is like flying the FSX B744, although it certainly flies better except the AP issues I mentioned. For the price of a few beers, it's OK, since I shall also be having the few beers after work tonight as well- hey, it's Friday after all. Thanks, Bruce.
so basically you were charged for something that you basically can get for free from opensky 777 model ?

Technically, he put down a 9.99 euro deposit towards the finished Captain Sim 777 release, as they will credit this amount towards the final product to anyone who purchases the external model.wink.gif

Hi,This has to be the first time I'm doing this but+1

Very nice external model. But based on my previous experience with CS products... no thanks.

That's correct. All of nearly 10 Euros. Given what I have invested in FSX, and moreso in real flight, it's not a lot. Corey is right (his reply above)- as long as one knows what they are purchasing. I have no expectations that I would get anything substantive from a 10 Euro purchase, and anyone who thinks they should might be into the wrong hobby.Bruce.

Corey, I think that you posting shows some interesting things.First of all, I really doubt that one dev can speak bias-free about the products from other devs by just using the words 'I'm speaking as a customer now'. Especially when his offer is the very same thing (757) as the one from the opponents. So my following sentences might take this bias into account. Sorry for that, just looks too obvious. You seem to form some sort of assumption there ('It seems to be their thing to hurry releases of exterior models when a competitor has the same model up their sleeve.') and one really starts to wonder about the intentions of stating this. Despite the fact that competitors of PMDG have to do everything, except for hurrying up LOL.gif, your sentences (if not otherwise explained) transport some clear message.
Choose carefully, and know what your are buying before you buy ;-)
helps to understand then (note the smiley). You mean that we're all supposed to buy the QW 757 now, instead of the CS 757, right? Well, if you mean it, say it! :wink:As you're pointing on the long waiting time for all LD 757 fans too (can there be some when the thing isn't there yet?), I could repeat my above sentences about dev-bias and that 'just say what you mean' thing, don't you think?Last item, told as true customer of all kind of flight sim addons: I'm using the 757 instead of the QW one. Personal preference, remember? And I don't start complaining about guys having another one than I do.Am I to blame now when I say stop to a dev jumping in a thread, trying to put his product up while bashing the other two? I think not, Sir.You've showed some class here, no doubt. Hoping it's the one you've wanted to show.By the way, what exactly has your post to do with the thread topic? Since you are a dev and since your company runs a forum too, this example of yours really is impressive in all aspects. I wouldn't be too happy about this achievement though. This thread started as a simple announcement of a new plane in FSX. Company: Captain Sim Model: 777Now, we are looking at some intolerant customers, don't allowing others to like e. g. CS while showing their mental skills when trying to argue, then we have some dev to "complain as a customer" and all of those guys don't seem to be able to just follow some very basic communication skills: Listening, tolerance, politeness.I really have to appreciate the exceptions so far. I don't know if I'm included there, but as they are still some normal, hobby-based and tolerant people around, at least my surrounding seems to be sympathetic most of the time. :(

I´m pritty shocked where this thread has went. As you said, CoolP, this thread started as a announcement about the new CS 777. But soon there were some guys, which only bashed CS for doing like they do. The last posts were about who esle is better than CS and why CS is that "bad". Therefore them most who don´t like CS, honor PMDG for being the best dev ever and everyone else will fail. It seems that they say that is a kind of a law of the nature that every developer will never be better than PMDG. Even if they try their best the will never be that good. I also think that PMDG is doing their job very good, but do I say that no dev can ever be better than PMDG? No! I think that we should give CS a new chance to make it right. I just want to remind you all that PMDG announced in January 2010 that they would release the 747-8i/F (which they released), in the middle of the year the 737 NGX (Ain´t she a myth?), the Dash 8 and the 777 at the end of the year. But what have been released till now? A simple shell of the 747-8i with the "default" PMDG 747-400 cockpit! So they aren´t the only good ones, they also fail.I´ll stop now. Don´t want to get the thread that off topic.

Best regards, Steffen

I would think that if the user just want's a pretty "shell", why not get the freeware POSKY model. From what I have read and seen, it ought to be just as accurate and nice looking as the Captain Sim model. Captain Sim does offer the best looking external models and VC cockpits, there is no doubt about that. But when you start adding the modern automated systems, FMC, etc to the mix, they fall way short. I find there products for aircraft without the modern systems (707, 727, 737-100/200), one can argue that they offer the required systems modeling because those a/c do not have the modern FMC and complex autopilot/MCP logic that the better addons simulate correctly (i.e. PMDG and LevelD), so that those are actually complete simulations. But they cannot compete when it comes to the FMC era glass cockpit models, but then again there is a market for those "lite" a/c, so I cannot find fault with their development of such projects. They have the right to market whatever they want, but this does smell like an opportunity to "one-up" PMDG's 777. But I'm sure the die hard systems fanatics will see this for what it is, as a pretty external model for those who like to make screenshots, I don't believe PMDG has anything to worry about, even if they release their "systems/FDE" variations before the PMDG T7.

Ernie (not Eric), apologies, but I think that we're talking cross-purposes now since you took a part of my sarcasm as no sarcasm.
You're right, your sarcasm was missed by me.
You mean that we're all supposed to buy the QW 757 now, instead of the CS 757, right? Well, if you mean it, say it!
I don't see how one can infer this from what Corey posted (or did I again missyour famous sarcasm ?).It did seem Corey's post was in the context of releasing module(s) of productsunder the presumption the rest of the will product eventually follow shortly thereafter. For the customer it is an investment (ok yeah a risk) , they are paying for the initial module now in hopes the rest of the product follows shortly. As others have posted We've seen it from more than one developer FN, CS, Digital Aviation,AlphaSim.(I don't consider PMDG in this group as the 747-8i was an addon to an existing completed 747 product). We know from recent history that sometimes you get those remaining modules soon after. Sometimesyou don't get them for 'years' afterwards. Sometimes you get them some-time afterwards but the costis twice what you were expecting. Or sometimes those remaining modules never materialize. So yeah, he's right, choose carefully.Regards.Ernie.

Hi,This has to be the first time I'm doing this but+1
Not really Mike. I don't think you've ever missed an opportunity to get in a few cheap shots at CS going back at least as far as 2004. What was it? Some issue with their first 707 release years ago? Still grousing over a 20 dollar purchase seven years ago?The very negative comments from the PMDG/LDS a really excited user base tends to diminish those companies image to some degree. Back on topic, I'm certainly willing to give kudo's to CS for producing the finest 777 model ever seen in FS. Will the internal systems rival what PMDG/ LDS can produce? Probably not to that extent but lets compare apples to apples here. I don't think CS can match said companies experience in having real airline pilots involved in every step of development plus financial resources/ close access to the real aircraft and their builders.CS does amazing work given what they probably have to work with. What CS does have is an extremely high level of modeling and animation skill, very talented people there. It's as good as it gets. This thread was announcing the availablity of the new CS 777 and the usual suspects took it as an opportunity to bash CS yet again. These types of attacks are dissapointing and sad to read given our common love of aircraft and all things flying. If you like a product, fine. If you think it's better than another product, that's fine too. But to come into a thread about a certain product and use that as an opprtunity to post negative comments for the sake of being mean says a lot about your character and maturity. People judge you by what you say.

So Captain Sim can still polarise the flight sim community it would appear. Really I don't see what the big deal is myself; nobody forces anyone to buy Captain Sim aeroplanes, and that being the case, I don't really see why people get het up about it. Personally I quite like some Captain Sim stuff, the 707 and 727 are great fun, their weather radar and their weapon thing too, 757 is a frame rate hog but even so it's still pretty good. I'm slap bang in the middle of reviewing a Captain Sim product in fact, which is taking ages, but that is precisely because it has a lot of depth, so there's little doubt they can pull the stops out when they want to, and they may do so with the 777.However, as much as I don't mind Captain Sim, I think I'll pass on their 'buy our 777 in installments'. I'm not really a fan of that kind of thing and only occasionally purchased things in that fashion (Mount and Blade and the DCS A-10 are two notable exceptions). Really, I don't see it offering much advantage over the Aerosim Triple Seven with ISG gauges in it in its present condition, which is my current FSX 777. So it's a 'wait and see' for me.Al

I really don't get this. Why are people complaining about them selling the exterior model? IF YOU DONT want it, DONT get it, it's simple. It's there for anyone who want to get it, to get it. It's not like Airsimmer, where they're charging a ton for something that doesn't work. They've been clear that this is just the exterior, so you know what you'll get. I'm not going to get only the exterior either, I'll wait for the full systems, but CS are just putting it out there for anyone to try, I doubt that they themselves expect much revenue from this. The PMDG 777? They have been extremely late with their 737, by the time the 777 comes out, which I will guess is in mid/end 2012, I will be going to college, and the new FS might come out, who knows? I'm not willing to wait that longer, if the CS product is good like the PSS one, I will get it, plain and simple. FSX lacks a 777.I am looking forward to this, CS have come a long way in the past couple of years. Their 707/727 were great, let's see how all this goes.EDIT:And finally, to the idiots saying it's a waste of 10 bucks and you can get the POSKY one, the 10 dollars payed for this model WILL BE DEDUCTED from your additional, future purchase of the 777 systems. It's like a pre-payement of sorts. At least freaking read the whole page and be educated before making such wild assumptions.

I guess I am an idiot for not making a down payment on a paint job, while waiting on the "full systems",probably just like the 757 I got from C/S,which has still not been fixed even tho they released the 767 (with same bugs) and then the 707 ??!!
