iFly 737 Has Been Released

Featured Replies

no doubt a snide remark, like wishing rain on ifly's parade. i'll not buy pmdg's 737. but i'll buy their 777.
LMAO! That post has NOTHING to do with the ifly version... it's a preview of their bird's VC, for users to look at.

I don't think you have to be a semiotic analysis expert to know that the title of the thread in question was indeed quite clearly a reference to iFly. It was more than obvious. It was a dig at a competitor, it's not the first time someone from PMDG has done it, either, so it is probably the whipping boy for those other occasions.Whether we take offence at that, or think it is out of order is another matter of course, since everyone I have ever met has probably had a pop at a their competitor's business, it's only natural and I bet we've all done the same at some point in our lives. All I think about the matter is that it probably wasn't the best thing to do from a marketing standpoint, but it won't stop me from buying PMDG's NG, as it is obviously going to be a really full on attempt to simulate a 737 in minute detail, and I certainly want one of those. Both FS 737s will have their merits, for if they did not, nobody would have bought the QW 757 instead of the CS one, and in fact, lots of people have both of those too.Al

Oh come on... so what would you guys all be saying if iFly made a post (in their own forums), "This is what an NG REALLY looks like"I certainly wouldn't be writing about the fact that they're trying to jab at PMDG...It's not like PMDG made a post smack in the middle of the FSX forum with that title - it was in their own forum. I think people assume since their forum happens to be in the avsim subforum it was a direct attack on ifly.Bah....

Guys, I am just happy that we are having a debate about the PMDG and Ifly aircraft and the competitiveness of both companies. I thought the days of great payware addons were done when Aces announced being closed. I am happy to have this "problem". :(

On a more thread-related note, the 'buy now' link on the main iFly site still does not go to Flight 1, but it does now link to the forum thread where you can buy the thing. Apparently it will be up at Flight 1 proper in a day or so.Also, worth noting is that Aviasoft have a special offer on to celebrate the release of the FSX iFly 737, with 25 percent off the price of their Electronic Flight Bag if you type in the code: EFB737And since EFB is quite pricey, that discount is quite a good one, so even if you don't get the iFly 737, you can still get a decent EFB for less because of it.Al

Imho it's a clear sideswipe at iFly, and for the 'king of the hill' to even bother to do that is in effect an acknowledgement/compliment to the worthy 'upstart'. Similar in principle when Boeing fans 'hate' on Airbus - do you see them hating on Tupolev? No because Tupolev is just not even in the same ballpark/market so no 'threat'. And NO, I'm NOT saying Vin is spouting iFly hate :( Long and short - it's just healthy competition, nothing wrong whatsoever is taking a stout poke at anybody else in your market. I wish both products great success.

Regards,

Mark

The point is Ifly would not do it. That point completely seems to escape you.

And just like the other people complaining, you readily allow yourself to buy PMDG's products. You even admit PMDG has reason to be proud of their work. Like the other posters complaining about PMDG, your argument is a mile wide and an inch deep.
If that's your conclusion, then you completely misunderstood the entire meaning of my post. Now you come at me, saying my arguments are lousy. Please just reread it... Or, better yet, read Eric's post just above this post, since the meaning of my post indeed seems to completely escape you as well.Eric: THAT is the entire point I'm trying to make. Thank you. iFly simply doesn't feel the need to attack others and give themselves compliments, saying how great they are. I guess they let their products speak for themselves, which is how I think it should be. Especially if you are already as well know as PMDG, there really is not reason for making snide remarks and jabbing other competitors.<div><br></div><div>As we say in Dutch: "Bescheidenheid siert de mens", roughly translated it means "Humility makes people more beautiful". PMDG just doesn't seem to know this saying, and I find that a pitty. Doesn't I don't buy their products, for I value products for their intrinsic quality, not the attitude of their developers. but still, it would be nice, ya know?</div>

iFly would not do it, because they in all honesty can't - visually. But that is not the point of the dispute. Such statements must be avoided. And it does not matter if the forum is the same or not, the point is two SAME products are coming out at the same time and with such statement there is much chance that it might be misunderstood. And even if only one single person misunderstands it, is from the customer's point of view too much. And not only one person "misunderstood", if it was really ment otherwise...Chapstick: I see you are also completely missing the point of this discussion. It's not about the product ITSELF.
The point is Ifly would not do it. That point completely seems to escape you.
Bah.... Word Not Allowed wrote what I was going to say.

:(
I just gave the iFly back to the owners. Too buggy for me I SHALL wait for the PMDG. Patiently. Is a 737 suppose to sound like a Hoover vacuum cleaner?
Would you please explain what do you perceive as buggy? Sounds are very good, IMO. I have no idea how Hoover vacuum cleaner sounds...
Overall I was very impressed with it, with my only real gripe being the well-known propensity for the iFly's autopilot to drop out of LNAV or VNAV if you so much as breathe on the stick, but dropping the stick sensitivity does mostly alleviate that to be fair.
Alan, if you go to your IFLY config files and set joystick sensitivity to 100000 or something like that you can knock your yoke and joystick and it won't come out of VNAV, works for FS9 anyway. Not sure of the FSX folder setup but in FS9 its in the main folder under Ifly >737NG > MyConfigHope this helps.. :(
