May 20, 201115 yr Hi all,I've just started to get into the great ORBX scenery and the smaller fields. I wanted to know if anyone could recommend a plane with good short field capability which is also fast?Does such a versatile plane exist?I love my A2A Cub, but it's just too slow.Thanks.
May 20, 201115 yr Depends what you mean by fast. The Twin Otter will do about 170 knots, a bit more downhill with the wind behind it, and the Twotter can land on a sixpence. Aerosoft make a good version of the Twotter for FSX.The Cessna C-208 Caravan can land on small rough strips and does a little bit shy of 200 knots. There's a default one of course, but there are some payware ones about too. Both of these have amphibious versions available as well, which adds a bit more capability. You might also try the default Grumman Goose, which is probably the best default FSX aeroplane and there is a freeware upgrade to it kicking around on the net as well. It can do 200 knots and is pretty good at getting in small places, and is of course also amphibious.Al Alan Bradbury Check out my youtube flight sim videos: Here
May 20, 201115 yr I have both of those recommended already, but for a quick short field capable a/c I would recommend either the Flight1 PC12 or the RealAir Turbine Duke, both are pretty quick and I can (just about) manage to get them in and out of Bold which is about 1000ft .. .. .. May 20, 201115 yr I love the Duke, but is that really a bush plane? I thought it was kinda expensive and exclusive, i didnt think Duke pilots would take her out to the bush Johan Pettersen
May 20, 201115 yr I love the Duke, but is that really a bush plane? I thought it was kinda expensive and exclusive, i didnt think Duke pilots would take her out to the bushWell if real-world cost is a consideration you can throw all of those other planes out the window as well... Might have to stick with that Cub!The turbine duke is an excellent bush aircraft. She will takeoff and land on a dime. A takeoff with full throttle and low weight reminds me of a fighter jet. Throw in the RXP GNS430 and/or GNS530 and it is one of the best aircraft available for FSX. Tired of Streetlights everywhere? Try MSFS DarkStreets today!
May 20, 201115 yr The Carenado C185 is an excellent bush plane. It cruises at around 135-145KT, depending on variant. The Bush package is only $18.95, great value for money. May 20, 201115 yr Have You considered a Beaver? Aerosoft made one few years ago, pretty nice A/C, but not as fast. Bartłomiej Ender
May 20, 201115 yr Flight One Pilatus PC-12While the PC-12 is a great aircraft with lovely STOL capability I am not sure it would be considered a "bush" plane. Fast-Bush=Pick one :(.Although it being a sim you can use whatever you like!**edit**I do fly the PC-12 extensively (virtually of course) and while I am ok with prepared grass airstrips I really don't know how happy the plane would really be landing on gravel/dirt/sand/off-airport etc in comparison to something with a high wing config (Caravan for one example). It is probably my favorite simulated aircraft to fly-but if it is real "down n dirty" work I stick to the A1-A Husky or if a bigger aircraft is needed the DH-6 Twin Otter which for its size lands and takes off on a dime anywhere. May 20, 201115 yr I love the Flight1 BN2 for bush flying. One of the most immersive[/] aircraft I know, with absolutely great sounds. You can also land it just about everywhere you wish. It's quite slow, though, so maybe not what you are looking for. my other choice would be the Aerosoft Twin Otter, already mentioned several times in this thread, but rightfully so. it's a very enjoyable aircraft. May 20, 201115 yr Yeah the words "Fast" and "Bush" don't really belong in the same sentence. Fortunately this is FS so we can pretend. I use the Turbine Duke because of it's beta range and quick takeoff for short strips.http://realairsimulations.com/duket10/intro.php?page=duket10_intro | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
May 20, 201115 yr Commercial Member I agree that fast and bush don't usually hang together in the same sentence, but from what I've read of the real thing, the Quest Kodiak was designed to be both. It's specifically for getting into and out of unimproved strips, and from what I've read, it does it with style. It wouldn't be unrealistic at all to use it the way you want to. Plus it's a fun plane. In all fairness though, when I want to go bush, more often than not I take my Carenado C185. I've got a soft spot for that plane.BTW, I'm a HUGE fan of the Duke (regular and turbine), so don't get me wrong.
