Well, it feels like the poll was pointless after all:------------------------"george[flytampa]Site AdminPosts: 1662Joined: Thu Mar 25, 2004 11:53 pmLocation: Southampton, UKI'm not anti-FS9, just anti dual development. Now with a third version coming out, there's no way I'll cope developing for three platforms. Even now FS9 DOES hold back FSX development somewhat. I simplify design methods to retain fs9 compatibility later on. This has to come to an end soon.I'll attempt a FS9 port of Athens (if possible because the trench/highway might cause problems), but in the future, its highly unlikely I'll consider another FS9 version. Its just too old."

It was always going to be pointless. If George no longer wants to support FS9 he should do just that.Another FS9/FSX poll just enflames.I could easily afford a rig to run FSX but FS9 suits my needs far better than FSX end of story.Happy flying. :(

Nevermind it appears there are payware updates to FS9 internal navdata, I think I'm going to reinstall and use both sims.

Yep. well said. I guess the 'Third Platform' is MS Flight which upon it's release or shortly thereafter, I will be hanging up my FS9 boots.

Poor fellas, I guess some of them even believe it will help. emoticon-0136-giggle.gifSorry, couldn't resist, I deserve lashing.

I just finally built a new machine so I loaded up FSX. I've been flying FS since the first simulator came out. Other than the graphics I'm really disapointed in FSX. I almost feel like FSX is more in the arcade direction where FS9 is more like a real flight simulator.Planes seem to handle better in FS9Squawkbox works better in FS9I like the 2d panels in FS9. It is hard to read the 2d panels in FSX.It is difficult to manage switches in 3d mode. Some planes don't have 2d panel options.the old navigator doesn't work with FSX eventhough it isn't supported. It is still the best around.I hope this poll will get new software addon folks to keep making more FS9 products. I would like to see all planes come in both FS9 and FSX for one price instead of charging for both. I guess FSX is great for VFR flying but FS9 is much prefered for IFR and online flights.Bill

Wishful generalized thinking Bill - that ship sailed a while back. Many users are now quite contentedly flying GA and heavy iron in fsx. Fs9 has lived longer than any sim before it, but it's commercial prospects are few and dwindling. Even if a market exists, many devs simply can't do their best visual work with fs9, and/or like George are tired of dumbing down a second version for fs9.

Here is another question When Flight comes out will FS9 simmers finally switch? I probably will switch when Flight comes out.

I'm leaning that way too. I'm just setting up FS9 on a new computer now, one which is also capable of running FSX. My current plan is to not invest too heavilly in FSX. In FSX I plan to basically just fly GA aircraft on the west coast of N America in the area covered by Orbx and Tongass Fjords. Granted, I haven't even installed FSX yet, so I don't know what frustrations I may yet face. I will continue to use FS9 for my longer flights for now, mainly because I have so many add-on sceneries for it. If Flight is indeed a suitable replacement, I will begin investing in it when it is supported by developers.

I think it mainly depends on what Flight actually turns out ot be.
