November 25, 201114 yr Just my thoughts...If XPlane is going to compete with FSX, it needs in my opinion--a. A total rework of the interface and menu system. Simple user configuration 'presets' should be available, with the advanced settings left intact.b. A menu to choose the aircraft like FSX where you don't drill down/up through directories.c. The installer should create a desktop shortcut to the executable. Just the little touches... and this could be a serious contender.
November 25, 201114 yr X-Plane already has ALL of that? "It's ALL about Flying" i7-9700k @5ghz | 32gb Gskill Ripjaw 5 DDR4 3000 | Nvidia RTX 4080 | W10 Pro | Samsung 32" 4K TV | Virpil Throttle & Pedals | Winwing Stick
November 25, 201114 yr X-Plane needs planes, planes that are on par with FSX offerings. ATC offerings as good as Radar Contact. Comparable AI such as MyTraffic/Ultimate Traffic. My last peeve is that you can't cockpit zoom out far enough!!

Much work to do - but many opportunities too. Flo B.

November 25, 201114 yr My last peeve is that you can't cockpit zoom out far enough!! Go to the Rendering settings, somewhere on the bottom left there should be an entry named "lateral field of view", increase that value to fit your preferences. :)Marco "Society has become so fake that the truth actually bothers people".

November 25, 201114 yr Just joined this forum despite lurking for a while. OK, my thoughts on this:Austin once said in an interview that he thought his UI was "perfect". Now then, where do I start?Need better interface for world / local maps. - Clicking on arrows to pan around and zoom in/out of the maps is very old fashioned. I very instinctively click to grab the map in order to pan around and use the mouse wheel to zoom in/out. Which leads to...- I don't like the way a single "click" on the world map for example instantly moves you to the nearest airport that you've clicked at. It's a good way of ruining a good flight.- I don't know if this has been addressed in XP10, but in XP9 you can only view a local map for the dsf scenery tile that's loaded. I that you should be able to get detailed maps for any part of the world, irrespective of where your plane happens to be. That could then render a separate world/local map unnessesary.Better "real world" weather datasets. - Currently XP only uses METAR info from reporting stations. That's fine for modelling conditions between ground and ceiling. But....- Why not use satellite images to model the cloud tops, and weather in locations where no METAR exists? Same goes for pressure charts.- Why not use datasets from sources like wunderground.com to add resolution?Keyboard, Axis, Mouse assignments.- I have a different set of requirments for my keys and axes between a cessna and a 747 for example. and I have to manually reassign these each time I jump into a different plane. Why not assign button/axis to specific profiles, and attach these profiles to your chosen plane? No need to keep reassigning your buttons then.- Assignments should be context sensitive. Example: +/- keys used to zoom in/out in one context should be used for tuning a radio in another context where you've hovered the mouse over that radio.- I'd like to use my mouse wheel for something other than throttle up/down please! Can this be configurable?
November 25, 201114 yr Agree with all of the above... also needs a simple two page intro to the XPlane demo.(The manual assumes you have the full version, with DVDs and such). That's because the demo actually is the full base product, the only thing the release product will add is the global scenery, and the DVD you'll need to use to unlock the 10 minute limit. This is the same method of distribution used in XP9. Thanks Tom My Youtube Videos! http://www.youtube.com/user/tf51d

November 26, 201114 yr Here is another thing a new user should know..In the rendering options, you can set your monitor's native resolution and check the full screenbox.. Voila, you are flying in full screen without the annoying bar at the top.I'm sure that X-plane veterans know this - but for a new user, this is hardly self explanatory. Also setting the lateral view to 70 gives a much better view (in the Cessna) than the default 60 IMHO..
