Active Sky 2012 & NGX

If you want to change that behaviour, there is a setting in FSX.cfg called CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY which the sliders set between one and eight. Set it to 12 if you want a decent overcast, but remember that any other change to the cfg file will reset it to a max of eight.
1st of all this is a huge tip, thanks for that.Question: what is the maximum value one could use for "CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY"?

Does it really work ? Also with REX ?It yes, we have found a nasty trick indeed :(

I don't know, I haven't tried it yet.It should work with REX also, as it is a FSX settings regardless to the weather engine.the same way that both REX and AS stated for best practice one should set the clouds density to MAX.

Just had some great flights with as2012, much more immersive than rex and ase. One problem though, fsx just crashed with the smartassembly error, any ideas?lloyd jones

Sounds like a simconnect issue Lloyd. As simconnect can be a nightmare to troubleshoot, I would send off a support ticket to Damian @ HiFi.

I own both REX and ASE and am a bit confused whether the additional 40 Euros for AS2012 is really worth it, especially considering the FREE update that's about to come:http://www.realenvir...-rex-essential/I mean how much better can the AS2012 textures be than the REX ones to justify this amount? Or will the weather engine be so much improved that will really make a difference?Since now I've never had any problems as I used REX for texture and ASE for weather, but now I'm totally confused. Money doesn't fall from the sky and I really don't want to spend 40 Euros for something that won't make any simming difference or I might not use whatsoever.Any ideas or recommendations are appreciated.
I'm so glad you posted this. I wasn't aware of it, and was thinking about getting ASE2012, but struggling with doing so, given that I've only had ASE for a few months and the discount, well, didn't seem like a discount to me.

What textures do you guys have your cloud resolutions set to? I have mine at 4096 but it does impact on my system. Looks beautiful though. Definitely a massive improvement in making it all feel real. After all the comments about SAS flights, I made one today from EGLC to ESSA an the approach into Arlanda was fantastic. The fog looks awesome now.
Sweden and Norway really gives you the oppertunity for some great flying - rough weather and rough terrain, difficult approaches and great ATC service on both Vatsim and IVAO... SAS operates -600/700 and- 800 throughout Sweden Norway and Denmark...Mas

What is it with people complaining about ASE and/or REX for not having decent overcast sky's? This is a MS limitation since at least fs 2002. Flight Sim clears the air around your plane, above and below, so you can see it in spot view. If you want to change that behaviour, there is a setting in FSX.cfg called CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY which the sliders set between one and eight. Set it to 12 if you want a decent overcast, but remember that any other change to the cfg file will reset it to a max of eight.
I got this tip from the AS forum a few weeks ago and it made a very noticeable difference to cloud coverage.I didn't notice it mentioned in the AS documentation whether you should make sure that TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096 is configured in fsx.cfg to get 4096 resolution clouds.Because these settings are reset if you change a view setting in FSX through the GUI, I always check them in my fsx.cfg before starting FSX:CLOUD_COVERAGE_DENSITY=12TEXTURE_MAX_LOAD=4096ASE / AS2012 is probably the best depiction of overcast you will acheive in FSX. MS Flight or Prepar3d might improve on it.

He asked why this AS2012 was posted in this forum (NGX Forum), as this forum is an NGX forum and not an Active Sky Forum.so theoretical his question is valid. No need to jump on him like that.

Ok guys, my last post here regarding this topic and I surely will ask HiFi for advice. However I cannot bring together the weather report of AS2012 and what is shown in the sim weather reports.First I looked into the satellite pictures for overcast conditions, second I checked the METARS (ocercast at both ends with light rain). Just after taking off at Le Mans (BTW it looked absolutely great from below) the clouds cleared for just broken conditions, a few minutes later I've had only some clouds in the vicinity and for the landing conditions you may look yourself - including the matching (???) METARS.

Regards,
Axel

The departure thing is similar to what I am experiencing
