Active Sky 2012 & NGX

Featured Replies

I was an ASE + REX user. However, AS2012 has provided a significant performance increase, and I was already getting pretty good FPS, except for JFK/LGA area. But since replacing REX with AS2012 I run FSDTJFK, Imagine Sim KLGA and Manhattan X with no problem, So I for one will not be going back to REX. Textures are fantastic as the above screenshots show.

Do the weather engine improvements work together with squawkbox downloaded weather?
No, you would turn off the weather options in SQB.

I fixed the problem, my Antivirus was the up.I wasn't looking for support though guys, it was just a thought I'd let you know moment.

Todays is your last day to upgrade from ASA/ASE to AS2012 and save some money. For those of you that are debating REX vs AS2012 textures, you can have the best of both worlds. If you want to use a REX theme then install it first then when AS2012 asks if you want to install a WX theme just hit the cancel button. The flight plan will load but the AS2012 textures won't be installed. Or you could setup up some REX snapshots.I think a lot of you are missing out on the full immersion experience by just going with defaults. Use FSBuild or FS Commander 9 to make a flight plan, Import it into AS2012 then let it make a Weather related theme for your route. This way you not only get a realistic theme for the current weather but more importantly you get the wind data for your entire route. This is important info for the FMC so you can get an idea of what your actual fuel situation is going to be at the arrival airport. Yeah its a little bit of a pain to enter all that wind info but you don't have to do it for every way point. On long hauls I do it every 4 or 5 way points. For a Short route with 15 or less waypoints I do all of em.As Jim said above you shouldn't have any other weather programs running at the same time as AS2012. That means Squawkbox, FSINN, and/or the REX weather engine. So far I have not had any S-turn effects in the NGX with AS2012. I have all weather settings in FSUIPC disabled and nothing is being used by FSUIPC Weather settings, not even Turbulence suppression which I was using when I had ASE for the S-turn issue.I Am using mostly stock settings except for the following changes.1) Set AS2012 Download Interval to 15 min from Default 10 min.2) Set AS2012 maximum Upper Visibility to 120 nm. The reason for this is when I get above 10,000 I turn FSX autogen off (you won't see it at cruise anyway) to free up some FPS so I can set FSX Global Weather to Ultra High and Cloud draw to 110 nm. Why do I do this? Well if you have ever noticed when looking outside the aircraft with short cloud draws it looks like you have a ring of clouds following you. With the above settings you will have clouds to the limits of your visibility which looks more realistic to me.For those of you with state of the art Rigs you can probably get away with leaving autogen On even if you max out the cloud draw. But for lower end systems it's usually one or the other.3) Using the recommended Hi-Fi Turbuelence Values for PMDG planes.FSX.cfg TurbulenceScale=0.500000FSUIPC.ini TurbulenceRate=0.5,2.5TurbulenceDivisor=40,40,80,804) It is very Important that you get the latest version of FSUIPC and install it whether you have the registered or non registered version. You want this one. http://www.schiratti.com/dowson.html The file name is 4.70b the actual fsuipc.dll version is 4.7.5.1Have had a great experience with AS2012 so far. Nice Job Hi-FI !

Fog LayersSince the haze layer is removed, there is no external depiction of low visibility automatically provided (you will not see haze when looking down from above). Instead, Fog Layer Generation is provided (option), which has been enhanced for AS2012. This injects an automatic cloud layer near the surface when the visibility is reported less than 3SM, providing a visual representation of “fog” when viewed from above. New options in AS2012 include “Use Stratus for Fog Layer Generation”, which can customize the appearance of these generated fog cloud layers. When checked, stratus clouds will be used (instead of cumulus), which provides better coverage in most circumstances.Although the manual states the above, it doesn't work 100% correctly for me, vis is 1/4 mile, cloud coverage set to max, the fog thins out at 4000ft but at 4500ft I can see 50% of the ground with 4/8ths cover only. Need to experiment a bit more.

Hi guys can you answer a couple of questions?1. As I understand it, you can use Rex textures and the new as2012 together right (I plan to purchase Rex now that it's 50% off).2. Will the price of As2012 be 80 euros for those that don't have ASE?3. Do you need a registered version of FSUIPC for either program?4. Do the As2012 textures make the NGX cockpit look better? I mean, the NGX cockpit is already a graphical masterpiece, but I've seen on YouTube videos that REX makes it look even more detailed than on a system without REX (how this is possible given the NGX's quality already I don't know). Thanks, your answers to these will help me make up my mind whether to buy REX, AS2012, or both.

I have REX2 but don't have ASE so at $80 a pop, i think i will wait and see what the REX2 upgrade has to offer.

1) Yes for Textures2) This is what Sim Market is showing. Looks like starting tomorrow the full version will be 59.49 Euro with VAT or 49.99 Euro without VAT. Since I am in the USA and there are no VAT Fees I paid $39.20 USD to upgrade. For those of you in the USA, based on that I believe AS2012 is going to cost roughly USD $26.13 extra starting tomorrow.EUR 59.49 without VAT EUR 49.99EUR 35.69 without VAT EUR 29.99expires 12/19/20113) No for AS20124) The Textures are not going to change anything inside the NGX cockpit, although they can change the way the lights look outside the plane.

Right. I'm a bit high there. Starting Monday i will have to pay $65.15 USD. Still an incentive to wait and see at least.

Thanks for the quick reply. I guess I'll be getting REX first as 80+ dollars is too much for me right now. As for the Ngx virtual cockpit, it seems you are right. I think it was the ENB mod I was seeing.

I use Plan G on a second PC and use DWC mode. I like to manually programme the FMC every flight and save it.

-Iain Watson-

I use V-Route premium, export it as an fsx pln, import it through rc4 and as2012 in dwc mode, install wx based textures and away i go. Shift and f10 in the sim to bring up the kneeboard and manually programme the fmc.

I use EFB and DWC. I import the flight plan for EFB into the FMC less SID/STAR and runway data.
