The difference between fsx and Flight is that fsx has global coverage. Even if an sdk becomes available, what would 3rd party developers do with it? Design the rest of the world? And again, as i have stated in another thread, this is 2012 and you would expect Flight to have global coverage with at least the graphics that it currently has (even if the ground textures are raw and the landclas is like fsx), allowing users to fly for example in Vatsim, VAs e.t.c.Even if they release an sdk and global coverage in a very raw format, it would probably take long for 3rd party developers to create something modern and good out of it. And in the meantime you will have simulators and games that have graphic engines far superior than they already do, which are better than what Flight has to offer.Someone would say that if Flight was to have global coverage and graphics like that e.t.c it would be like 500GB or more. Well i wouldn't mind. And i guess most of us wouldn't. People already have 1 or multiple 1 terra hardrives. Meaning lot's of GBs to spare.

There is so much to read that you sometimes miss a post. After checking all forums I always press Mark Community Read and because of that I sometimes miss a post. Like the one. Which is an excellent one. As usual. :wink:I have to say that I am reading more and more positive news (well.... positive opinions) about MS Flight... I am really looking forward to the final version of MS Flight! (Specially now other possibilities are becoming a bit problematic...)

Exactly, I agree 100%, I wouldn't either, unless it could be confirmed by meeting one criteria, or the other. :smile:Question, and it is not intended to be rhetorical, but in earnest, something that is very evident (to me) in AVSIM these days: Bad news is always easier to believe than good. Why is that?Kind regards,
Bad news is easier to believe in general. My guess, its human nature!

This a great post Stephen! I share your optimism and I agree there is room for more in this beta. I wonder what will be available for the basepack a year from now.

Cheers, Bert

Bad news are easier to believe in case of Microsoft as their news usually are only bad.

I have tried to be fair and balanced in my assesment. Honest disagreement is one thing, but barely contained hate is another. What I am weary of is the poison druelling out of those who seem filled with rage. Is all this angst just over an electronic toy (flight simulation) worth what it does to the person doing the smearing? I don't think so. Many here seem eager to insult and malign Microsoft in any way they can. It is almost like, no it is very much like, mental illness. They say a person's words and actions describe and define what's inside. If that's so, then Yech! Come on now, lighten up guys, for your own sakes.Kind regards,

Stephen, great post, and I concur for the most part. But I have a question. Why would MS provide a comprehensive SDK if they are going to be producing the addon content? I don't hold that against them at all especially seeing what they have done so far, but it would seem to be at cross purposes. I also agree that there is so much needless drama over this new iteration, and most of that seems to come from those who fancy themselves as real sim pilots and maybe take themselves too seriously.Cheers,Todd

+1, great OP. Still what I (want to) believe..

Maybe they have enough infrastructure to create what ever the public demands. Keep development in house to save money. Graphically it appears very nice. Get the game out for free, have a bunch of interesting goodies ready to sell, then it's off to the bank. Sell an ATC, GPS, quality aircraft modules. Build as you go. It may end up being a big hit.

Well Stephen, your post made me think twice about FLIGHT and I did some research (watched all the youtube videos, read all the comments from people who's opinion I respect and went back to the FLIGHT website). I agree it's not all doom and gloom, but still no signs of FLIGHT being the FS11 that so many of us craved for. I'll allow myself a little hope for now because just maybe MS has saved the best for last. There's got to be more than aerocaches...

Simmerhead - Making the virtual skies unsafe since 1987!

The only thing I care about is an SDK. Since FS98 I have been able to fly from my local airport, in my country, and 100s of other remote areas of the world. Without freeware flight sim is dead to me and I might as well go free flying in Rise of Flight which has superiour graphics. The ability to fly almost anywhere was the one thing MSFS did better than any other sim in history. MSFS had something for everyone, rich or poor, gamer or simmer, virtual traveler or pilot, designer or coder. A uniqe hoppy with multiple ways to enjoy it. With FLIGHT all that is gone.
I totally agree with you. Hearing that there will be no SDK is what really upset me. If it turns out to be true, I will never touch "flight", free or not. The heart of MSFS has always been the thousands of hobbyists creating their own little part of the sim and sharing it for free. Without freeware there would be no Avsim, and no Flightsim .com. What community would exist?I recently downloaded an FSX freeware addon of the giant neon star that sits on top of Mill Mountain in Roanoke, Virginia. There are probably less than 50 simmers in the whole world that care about that addon, but it is there for those that do.

I predict that within a Year this closed game for outside add ons both freeware and payware will be one of so many MS forgotten games of the past. The only "game-Sim" that has lasted decades have been the Flight Sim family....can you remember one more?..Yes!!! good old "Train Simulator" which today thanks only to outside developers still sells!!! but the bean counters in MS thought they would kill it by cancelling TS-2....nasty people, they taught they would place many outside developers out of business...that was mean but they are still jumping around.......A sorry state this Flight situation??? not at all. Gamers like "Action" and more action, Flight can indeed be very boring if one does not have the "flying bug" inside. How many times will a gamer fly trough hoops or fly for coins?? three times?? then what.....after you fly a Mission (gameplay in FSX) you never return to it since you know what, when and how. How many times will gamers fly from airfield a to airfield b??? on a tiny island or on whatever territory MS decides to bring out a a price you don't know???....again for those who still don't get it....without the ability for ousiders to make the thousands of freeware addons of all kinds and without the Great, Good and not so good addons the FS family has had for decades..MS Flightsimulators withosut SDKs, would not exist today, you would only know FS98, a dead Game.....But, I as all humans have my own likings, I like aviation Real (16 years Flying), model airplane building, RC flying, Airplane photo collector, avid reader of aviation history, and home cockpit maker, for FSX and I usually raise my head when I hear the sound of aircraft......I love aviation. Other humans like PC and Console Games, good for them. To those that are like me and find Flying their Sims a great hobby (Game-Sim if you like) don't you worry for FSX. X-Plane and others on the burner at this moment will keep us busy for more decades.....;)...None of us need MS Flight or any other Game.

This right here: quote "Even if they release an sdk and global coverage in a very raw format, it would probably take long for 3rd party developers to create something modern and good out of it."I am 59yrs, I'll be 60 this year: I don't have the time for any freaking "hide and seek".One hand behind its back? holding the candy? you've got to be insane to acquiesce to this to the "Orwellian" strategy.

I hear you. With no community or place to share our passion and freeware the hobby of flight simming is dead.

Of course everything is speculation based upon what we have in front of us, but there is reason to believe that FLIGHT is already superior to FSX in some important aspects like flight dynamics, weather and rendering. Those are excellent grounds to build on from there. None of us know from MS about an SDK being made available or not after release, only that a very early pre-release SDK was not made available at that time to certain developers after negotiations, or talks, or whatever you want to call it, broke down. When you think about the probable dynamics, I am not so sure any of us would promise an SDK under those kind of circumstances either, whatever they were.

Those that don't believe in something will fall for anything. There is a lot of nonsense being sold as popular wisdom.
This a great post Stephen! I share your optimism and I agree there is room for more in this beta. I wonder what will be available for the basepack a year from now.
For certain, there will be a whole lot more further developed product than there is now.

That is the truth! Once you get by the simplistic beginning there is a lot to really like about FLIGHT.Kind regards,
