November 2, 201213 yr I've had the sense folks who have tried X-Plane on the whole end up not liking it over FSX/P3D. This video looks amazing from the advertisement on avsim home page now: X-Plane 10 official video by Lupine Productions - August 2012 For those who have taken the plunge and went back to FSX as your default sim, what are the main issues behind that decision? Noel System: 9900X3D Noctua NH-D15 G2, MSI Pro 650-P WiFi, G.SKILL 64GB (2 x 32GB) 288-Pin PC RAM DDR5 6000, WD NVMe 2Tb x 1, Sabrent NVMe 2Tb x 1, RTX 4090 FE, Corsair RM1000W PSU, Win11 Home, LG Ultra Curved Gsync Ultimate 3440x1440, Phanteks Enthoo Pro Case, TCA Boeing Edition Yoke & TQ, Cessna Trim Wheel, RTSS Framerate Limiter w/ Front Edge Sync. Aircraft used in MSFS 2024: Fenix A320, Aerosoft CRJ, FBW, WT 787X, I-Fly 737 MAX 8, Citation Longitude.
November 2, 201213 yr It's not as polished as FSX but I think it's the way ahead. For the sake of a few gigs download you can try it yourself you know!
November 2, 201213 yr Commercial Member At least last time when I tried it user interface was pretty difficult to use compared to FSX. I do like its flight model though, if there were more high quality addons for it I sure would regularly use it.

November 2, 201213 yr It looks nice but its not the leap I expect from 'the next sim'. I envision Xplane 12 or 13 being advanced enough over FSX with some addons to be worth switching to.
November 2, 201213 yr There's a great deal to recommend it, including the feel of the flight model with the best payware, and also night flying - night lighting and overall visuals blow FSX away. The helicopter flight model is stunningly good. But scenery development is far behind FSX right now and the pace of scenery development is disturbingly slow. Urban landscapes are just awful. It's frustrating, because there are plenty of moments when the sensation of flight is better than MSFS, but the suspension of disbelief - the "you are there" feeling - is often missing. Somebody recently described it as a technical simulator, which is accurate at this point. It could be more than it is right now, and I hope the visuals get the love they need. I'd be tempted to switch completely to a more refined, future version - but not to the current one, not yet at least. Alan Ampolsk"Ah, Paula, they are firing at me!"-- Saint-Exupery

VC's for payware look amazing, and if you get the right modeler, the fde's seem right on. Scenery and ATC is a huge downside for me. Even large airports in XP10 that aren't big cities are terribly vacant. KDLH my home airport (runway over 10,000ft) lacks any buildings etc. Their scenery looks like FS9 default imho... | My Liveries | FAA ZMP | PPL ASEL | | Windows 11 | MSI Z690 Tomahawk | 12700K 4.7GHz | MSI RTX 4080 | 64GB 6000 MHz DDR5 | 500GB Samsung 860 Evo SSD | 2x 2TB Samsung 970 Evo M.2 | EVGA 850W Gold | Corsair 5000X | HP G2 (VR) / LG 27" 1440p |
November 2, 201213 yr The thing that really got in the way of me enjoying XP10 was the interface. Good god it's VERY unfriendly for a new user.
November 2, 201213 yr The interface has been changed recently and, at least for me, it is quite easy once you learn the basics. Flight model is great, night flying has been mentioned and there is quite good default weather engine. ATC is still far behind FSX, however it is not a big deal for me as I fly almost exclusively online. So that it is about add on scenery and planes. There are some considerable improvements in the last couple of weeks. Aerosoft is very active in bringing payware airports (Amsterdam, Hamburg) and there is a lot of freeware available which can easily be compared to some lower level payware from FSX. Most importantly there are existing and coming quality payware aircraft: Ramzzess B777 is great and JRollon CRJ200 maybe even better. Hager's Airbuses are also good. IXEG B737 (when it is released) seems to be just great. And as soon as those like PMDG will jump the train, there is no more any question... It is also very visible that the code is more modern than FSX. It is quite easy to have 30+ framerate on "average" hardware - and without endless tweeks or CTDs. The limit currently is 32 bit memory, which will change in 10.20, which will be 64 bit and hopefully come before Christmas. These are in line with my thoughts, too. I loved the night flying... November 2, 201213 yr No seasons No landmarks Bad AI engine Bad ATC No airport buildings Bad autogen usage No ORBX and RealAir availability That's what's wrong with it.

November 2, 201213 yr Lol, +1. Although I have spent a lot on XP add ons too, but it never looked right.
November 2, 201213 yr Maybe some day x-plane will have a real virtual cockpit. Awkward to use, and loading planes is a joke.
