Light Aircraft - best addon?

Featured Replies

Did a little bit of flying in the Milviz Cessna 310 yesterday. It doesn't get as much use as some of the Realair planes, but if you are looking for a solid, light twin with a good flight model, then the C310r is great. It comes with a blank panel option so you can put your own avionics in there, making it something of a creative person's blank slate to customize to their heart's content. I like it because it feels like a working man's twin that you actually fly in the real world, whereas how many people get to fly something exotic like a Duke B60?

You're scaring me.

Good thing you don't have to fly with me then. ;-)

The WACO YMF-5 by Alabeo is the best flying aircraft I have ever purchased. It's good looking too.

I comepletely understand where you're coming from with the Carenado aircraft, but some of them are actually pretty good; they've had a guy enhance many of their FDEs. I would seriously check out their C185 or C337. I really enjoyed their 208 as well, but that might be a little bigger than what you're looking for.

lol this is turning into a great topic.

Regarding twins, I have become a little spoiled by the Duke's flight dynamics. I have an MEL rating in real life...Haven't flown multi since my training because its so @#$% expensive to fly a twin, but a key part to a twin is engine out handling. With Carenados suspect FDE's, the only twin I got of theirs was the 337...it obviously doesn't have the engine out problems as a conventional twin, even with Bernts great FDE's, I am still wary of Twin FDEs in FSX. RealAir got it right with the Duke. Aerosoft's OV-10 is also a great twin, you can actually do a real air start in it. PMDG also excellent as always.

Same thing with turboprops, everyone knows FSX screwed developers over with their turboprop dynamics. RealAir got the best PT6A simulation so far, you can hot start, you can overheat the oil, you can exceed torque limits...all with consequences. PMDG and Aerosoft have great TPE331 simulations with their J41 and Bronco. Dodosim got it perfect with their Allison 250.

I really hope A2A does an accusimmed twin prop aircraft...first choice would be a Beech 18, but I would be very happy with any...DC-3, F7F, P-38, any medium WW2 twin bomber, any GA twin....etc.

Cheers

I'll add my $0.02 if you don't mind...

Thanks so much for your comprehensive response. Very interesting read indeed!

PS. We have very similar system specs!

From reading over at the simforums Flight1's King Air 200 will have the ability to taxi with beta and simulating the full range :) Woot!

Was lost in the AVSIM rebuild but ended up buying the Baytower RV7, great aircraft and nicely done in FSX, would highly recommend.

BTW There is an issue with the XML - RXP integration in Windows 8, the Menu button in the VC brings up windows narrator, use the 2D popup as a workaround for that button.

Great choice there Hans :) I think you will really enjoy it, especially when used with Accu-Feel. At the Baytower site you can find a list of repaints.

If there is a realworld RV scheme not listed there yet that you would like done, you might be able to bribe Ron with some pints and he will paint it for you. :drinks:

Any other real life pilots out there think that the pre-flight is a chore? Something to get over with so you can get to the fun parts?

Richard Bach's blog (currently offline) mentioned the pre-flight on his new SeaRey. The SeaRey is a light sport amphibian, with a pusher prop. He was watching another SeaRey pilot pre-flighting his plane and commented on the care he was taking on the engine. The other pilot pointed out that in a tractor arrangement, a nut or screw that falls off the engine will basically fall harmlessly away from the aircraft. But in a pusher arrangement, it has to pass through the propeller disk first. After that, Richard took much greater care in examining the engine. Not just because he had to, but because he wanted to. You'll be able to read all about it when they publish "Travels with Puff."

Sometimes in FSX I just want to jump in and fly from the active runway, especially when it's more of a utility "flight test" thing. More often I prefer to go through the entire start-up procedure and even do a full run-up, even if there's no possibility of failures. This is all a part of the flight experience, just like the long taxi and the boring parts of the flight when there's nothing to do. For me, those are fun parts too.

Oh for crying out loud... Do you really have to get so hung up on what might just be a poor choice of words from someone who isn't a native english speaker? Anyway I already have the approval of the people that matters, and believe me you guys don't.

Personally again for GA flying and just having fun with it (no commercial applications) I have yet to find a contender to the RealAir Lancair Legacy. Its beautifully modeled, not too hard on the frames, easy to fly, aerobatic, high performance, and its FDE is almost spot on. If you want something a little less powerful or just prefer a more old school approach the Alabeo PA26 Pawnee Brave looks pretty good too.

I'd love to see a good Cirrus SR22 with full Avidyne glass cockpit instrumentation..... I note Eaglesoft did one a few years ago but with the standards set by A2A Simulations, Realair, Baytower these days, I don't know if it would hold up.....?
