PPL SEL IFR soloed in 1958 (J-3), owned C172 and A36. Flew coast to coast USA several times/yr until 2004, when I sold the A36.

Reasons I sold: Found out much cheaper to fly commercial than fly myself; Counting hangar, maintenance, insurance, aircraft payments, and currency training I was spending $10,000/yr ++ before I got in the car to drive 1/2 hour to KPDK; Plane got caught in hailstorm on ramp at  KCOS and it was better to take insurance and sell than to re-skin it, which wasn't actually required except for cosmetic reasons, (flew great, just pocked up); if I were to upgrade to glass panel would cost me another $15,000, and I like to have latest technology. During my 50 years of active aviation I saw a lot of sad airplanes and I always promised myself that I would either maintain to highest standard or find another avocation. I now enjoy the intellectual part of aviation (Learning different planes,  IFR procs, etc.) and I don't have to sit in a 120 degree cockpit waiting for a clearance, and when I'm done I don't have to wipe the oil off the belly.

It was great fun for 50 years, but I now just enjoy the heck out of FSX. I can buy a lot of add-ons for $10,000/yr. (But I don't: Still learning to fly the ones I have!)

Happy simming to all!

PPL SEL 1982. Just about the time that flight sims first started. It was great fun while it lasted, but could no longer justify the costs. But I still will run outside if I hear a aircraft over head. Also a EAA member and have not missed many conventions in the last 32 years.

Canadian Glider pilots license. Don't laugh its not funny.

Its just as hard to get as a PPL

Working on NGX license.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN ITS NOT REAL???

Poll also shows a problem. I am a Ga pilot with commercial rating-therefore I am a commercial pilot.I believe what was meant was a commercial airline pilot vs. Ga pilot?

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

You are a commercial pilot Geofa, since can legally fly for hire. B)   Commercial aviation is much more than just flying tubeliners.

That is exactly my point.

WANTED DEAD OR ALIVE-the best Flight Sim!

I voted GA pilot even though I have a CPL with IFR and MEL. I never flew commercially, and I'm not current for the same reason as posted by pilottj above, too expensive.

I voted GA, but my licence is actually for MLA B)

I'm a bhpa powered hang glider pilot license holder also have pilot rating for free flight hang gliding & the tow endorsement . I spend far more time simming than real flying , I would love to be a commercial pilot but unless I win big on the lottery a dream it will forever be.

Besides the fact that people on the internet will answer whatever they feel...  For the poll it would have been best to make only two options.  Those that hold a real world certificate, and those who do not.  Because really...  I'm not a pilot, I'm not actively flying an airplane.  That's my definition of pilot.
