Majestic Dash 8 Q400 - Release Thread

Hi again everyone

I'm still unable to control my TO roll with the plane veering off left everytime. I have followed all advice, changed Con Panel to Ailerons + Mouse, ensured my Keyboard Rudder Trim buttons are working ok yet still after 40 knots the rudder doesnt keep me on the centreline.

Would love some help!

It sounds like your still not using rudder.  The steering tiller is separate from the rudder and locked out above 40kts;  You'll have to use the rudder above 40kts.

With your rudder-less setup, I assume you have "autorudder" enabled in realism settings.  I'm not sure if that's an option with this add on.

Hi Zach

I am using the rudder by pressing the buttons that are allocated. In external view I can see the rudder turning left and right but on the TO roll they just dont work. What do you mean by "rudder-less"? Should I have autorudder on or off?

By "rudder-less" I meant you have no rudder axis.  Sorry for the ambiguity!   If you're using the rudder buttons, auto-rudder should be "OFF".  I'm curious to see your settings and technique as I'm finding center line tracking quite easy with my rudder pedals.  Only a slight bit of pressure on the right pedal keeps her on the center at takeoff.

A couple questions for you early-adopters:

Does anyone know if the Majestic Q400 plays well with Radar Contact? I've seen a few mentions of problems with setting of transponder codes by third-party software, something RC4 depends on to work properly. Similarly, how well does it play with SquawkBox and VATSIM?

How does the external FD modeling interact with airport environment programs like AES and GSX?

Thanks

Not sure about SquawkBox but I have flown 3 flights on VATSIM with FSInn and 0 issues with compatibility.

Brought, downloaded and installed all within about 10 minutes. Having never ever flown this type before the set up process has been interesting.

I do need to read the main manual so having no experience of this type and only using the tutorial I did manage to get it into the air with a programmed FMC, eventually. A few things I've noticed on my short induction so far which may or may not have been mentioned up to this point.

I use Eyefinity so accidentally hitting F10 although no 2D cockpit appears it does induce the dreaded hourglass cursor which cripples your system. I noticed that when F10 is pressed you see a window appear which is not the 2D cockpit but the outside world. This should be an interesting one to find in the aircraft config file!

Although the simple get round for this issue is to disable F10 by removing the assignment in FSX I'm a little disappointed that even with a new state of the art release this issue wasn't foreseen. Maybe I'm being a bit too harsh!

I have a few saitek panels and the only thing ive found that works so far is the gear up lever and the flaps switch. I've not dug deeper so far as I'm just assuming that they will not work until a file comes out for SPAD If at all or FSUIPC

No sound problems noticed at all other than the old chestnut of it going into pause after loading the config. I did feel silly sitting their wondering what had happened :)

After running out of time and actually being in the air and the plane deciding it was going to bear left and either head for the stars or dive towards the ground I had to switch off and do other things, plus my arms were aching hanging onto the yoke :) This I'm sure is me being a learner and NOT reading past that point in the tutorial or pre-reading the manual. Then that's the fun of a new plane. So far so good.

Got it today and agree it's worth the money.  If you want to learn something completely different, GO FOR IT!   This one could be an addiction :-)

Has anyone noticed the lack of turbulence effects when using accufeel? I dont get anything with the q400 :( kind of miss them

Yes, I've noticed this as well. There's no turbulence from Accu-Feel or from REX, it's always perfectly calm despite being in very convective air.

It's not that I want to make things harder for myself flying a complex aircraft in choppy air, but it's also fairly unrealistic to have completely smooth air for entire flights.

Anybody have any thoughts or ideas?

Thanks,

Fabio

Bob,

How are you?  The Q400 has been tested on VATSIM with Squawkbox and I have run multiple tests (successfully) without any problems.

Radar Contact I did not test as that machine upon which is installed has been down (I ought to get that going ...huh ...LOL).

GEX:

We are presently working with Umberto at FSDT in trying to get the pushback tug to work properly with the Dash.  Part of the main reason why we had our own pushback script added to the aircraft.  hopefully Oleksiy and Umberto are able to find a work around.

I am unable to speak for AES as I do not own a copy.

I am having this also, using ezdock. I find the issue is FDE to FSX SYNC, if I set it to enable, the stop/start motion disappears, but as soon as I move my throttles one inch, the aeroplane bounces in the air, does a loop and crashes. If I set the SYNC to disable, the huge bounce disappears but the stop/start motion returns

I've now completed a few flights and really am enjoying this add-on. The FPS are unbelievable. The only issue I'm finding is the sort of start/stop motion when taxi-ing and flying, probably due to having an external FDE and also using trackir. I find that when I pause my trackir the motion seems to stop.

The start stop motion we have found during testing was eliminated by using the "affinitymask=n" entry in the aircraft.cfg.  I have mine set to 7 at the moment with very good results.

Channaffm,

This is a situation that are looking into at the moment and hope to have if rectified in the near future.

Simeon, is there a reason why the Dash 8 doesn't give any tyre smoke? I also noticed it in the video's as well?

Finally, how to enable 'Vnav' please?

That would be brilliant, thanks Simeon. I love the plane otherwise!

Guys, what's with the aircraft jumping when loaded? Every time the aircraft is spawned it bounces few times on the spot, sometimes so severe that sim considers it a crash.

Something to do with OPUS camera, GSX, AES, AccuFeel? I have all of those installed.

I would never fly with crash detection on.  FSX crash detection is bogus anyway and just gets in the way.

The start stop motion we have found during testing was eliminated by using the "affinitymask=n" entry in the aircraft.cfg.  I have mine set to 7 at the moment with very good results.

Where is this located at?  I can't find it in the aircraft.cfg.

I have a few questions ...

I see that TrackIR (with EZCA) operate is so strange ... not as normal with NGX for example

I setup in FSUIPC an axis of my G940 to the Spoilers axis, and in Majestic Control Panel it run as the tiller, but in-game no.

This is exactly what I did to set up my tiller, and it works perfectly.

Start FSX, load the Q400, open FSUIPC, set your joystick twist axis to "spoilers" click on the "reverse" box, open the Majestic Control panel, go to tab for Flight Controls, select the radio button for "Steering Control Mode: Spoiler Axis" and twist your joystick and watch the "TILLER" gauge and input position.  It should move fully to each side and zero to the center.

Hi Robert you seem to know a lot about this aircraft did you work on this project ? Thank you

Posted this question in Majestic forum but maybe you can help me out here it is:

Hi Guys:

Quick question on adding reflection as a painter I would like to add reflection and have tried but with no luck as the plane looks drab and I would like a nice reflection any ideas on how to do this - is the reflection tied to the model which I hope not, thank you.
