Majestic Dash 8 Q400 - Release Thread

Excellent... you have just pinpointed exactly my landing mistake so far... cutting the power in the flare too early...

You are spot on. Easing power to Flight Idle on 20' causes the plane to slow quickly and drop like a stone...

I will try this again, but keeping the approach power on until the mains touch. Thanks...

Mark,

We have not implemented V speed call outs, but will probably have additional scripting for the PRO version.  We included these scripts to schow that they are possible and will be possible for users to create their own scripts a need be (at least this our intention)

I understand the flexibility the PRO version will offer but surely the average simmer deserves some basic FO callouts included with the base package.  I think you should consider adding these in any service patch.

I am having this also, using ezdock. I find the issue is FDE to FSX SYNC, if I set it to enable, the stop/start motion disappears, but as soon as I move my throttles one inch, the aeroplane bounces in the air, does a loop and crashes. If I set the SYNC to disable, the huge bounce disappears but the stop/start motion returns

I've now completed a few flights and really am enjoying this add-on. The FPS are unbelievable. The only issue I'm finding is the sort of start/stop motion when taxi-ing and flying, probably due to having an external FDE and also using trackir. I find that when I pause my trackir the motion seems to stop.

The start stop motion we have found during testing was eliminated by using the "affinitymask=n" entry in the aircraft.cfg. I have mine set to 7 at the moment with very good results.

Thanks for this, I set affinity mask on my machine and it now runs beautifully, only problem is, now the sound has disappeared! I never had the sound issue before, and boy do I miss it!

Interesting/odd that changing which cores are running which threads causes sound to disappear; this leaves me hopeful there could be a fix for the sound issue I'm having.

Might experiment with turning hyper threading on/off in your BIOS, see what happens?

Does anyone know if it's possible to set up weight/balance and fuel without having to switch out of FSX or run it in a window? It's a testament to the optimization of this plane that so far I've been able to alt-enter to window and back to run the config manager without crashing FSX (something I would never dream of doing with the NGX), but I'm sure sooner or later it'll be an issue. In other words, does anyone know if that weight/fuel info saved in any way such that I can load up FSX and start a flight in full screen and not have to leave it?

Once you send the data to FSX (loading the aircraft), you are still responsible for manually entering the payload and fuel variables into the FMS.  I understand your concern of tabbing between screens.

If I may suggest a method which I devised during the development/testing phase - I created scenarios for various aircraft weights (all fuel not payload, full payload low fuel, full aft cg loading, full fwd cg loading, etc.).  Now granted this would be loaded at a specific airport, but I just switched to the airport of choice afterwards.

This is the best solution that I can offer you or anyone else at this time.

Mark,

Will not make any promises, but well see if we can squeeze it in

That is really interesting Will.  Good to know that the "affinitymask=N entry helped (What OS are you running?).  FleetingThough mentioned the possibility of HT being active - I have mine deactivated, I am running Win7 and I am using onboard sound (ASUS Z877 - V-PRO - all BIOS drivers are up-to-date)

So far we have identified this issue to be a known Windows 8 bug, affecting the Direct Audio applications which use the DSP sound effects (like our Dash-8). We are working on a workaround. There are 2 solutions that are known to help in such cases

  1. Change your windows speaker configuration to SB2.1, 5.1 or 7.1, preferably by using the sound card own software, then restart the Windows
  2. Update your DirectX installation from Microsoft http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

I'm using a Sound Blaster Zxr (same as Sound Blaster Z, basically) on an Asus Maximus V Extreme, with HT on, if that's useful info, Win8 64-bit.

Actually the timing of this release couldnt be better. Keeps us all busy on our toes while waiting for the PMDG 777. Barely see the 777 on the top thread list right now. lol.

As for sound, Im using windows 7/64 with an onboard sound on the Asus board. I tried pressing Q but didnt really work. Direct X is updated. No issues with other aircraft.

Simeon, after I posted here I restarted the sim, and behold, everything worked as advertised, the sound on the Q400 was back. I left it running for 30 minutes and it never went away.

I was just thinking of what I did different. When the sound disappeared, I loaded the sim to my default Cessna flight and then changed to the Dash 8 like I had done on numerous occasions before.

When I restarted the sim, I used SimLauncher to start my sim directly at the airport of my choice with the Dash8 loaded, bypassing the default flight, and the sound was back.

Not sure if it had anything to do with it, but will try to play around with it when I finished work.

Ok, can somebody point me in the direction of the hydraulic control panels where I'd find things like the standby hydraulic pump?  I can't find it anywhere and the hydraulics section of the manual discusses the system, but doesn't tell me where the panel is.

Nevermind, Sean beat me to it!!

Anyone else has a problem to acces Smart Cockpit webpage? Doesn't work for me in the last 2 days. I wanted to read about Q400 as i prepare to finaly get this plane in a couple of days....

If so, where do you find manuals for Q400?

I wish a couple of these threads were pinned.  This particular one for sure.
