Disgusted with ORBX Forum

Featured Replies

I rarely go on there.

Same 8 or 9 people up each others backsides on the screenshot forum.

Certain members post pictures, which anyone can take and are nothing special at all, and the posts are met immediately by the same predictable comments about how fantastic the shots are and the best yet etc etc

They could post a pic of a xxxxx and they will all swoon over it. Its stopped me going on there.

* Pinches nose, crosses legs and tries desperately not to laugh *

I had some installation problems with some of Orbx's UK airfields a few months back. One of their UK development team homed in on the error straight away and I was up and running. Very good product support in my opinion.

Surely not everybody was kung fu fighting.

I don't own any orbx products, so I can't comment on their level of customer service or any lack thereof.

But I've learned that in every aspect of life, there will ALWAYS be two sides of any story and passing judgement based on the word of another is pretty dumb (unless you're touching a hot stove after someone told you it hurts).

Just last year I was working with a guy that where in the first week I automatically judged him to be a total idiot based on what other co-workers told me.

Turns out I was the idiot after I actually tried talking to him and learned he was going to school and working full time to get a better job as a mechanic.

The others bad mouthing him didnt spend more then 5 min having a conversation with the guy.

So is orbx bad? I dunno, haven't done business with them, and until I do I reserve my own judgement.

Just sayin, there's always two sides to every story.

Don't believe just one. Get both and form your own opinion.

Don't let others make your opinion for you.

This isn't directed at anyone. I'm just rambling waiting for my next flight to come in.

Well said Oliver, but a lot of bad things happen when people go with their temper in the heat of the moment.

Just saying...

Kind regards,

Thanks for your feedback, Stephen, and thanks for indicating that there's not only the bones, I'm aware of, but also some flesh around them, I don't know of.

Your statement "There is no justification for piracy and ORBX does not deserve to have their software stolen, nor is it their fault. It is just as wrong to steal from someone who you think mistreats you (...)" can stand some promotion, for sure.

Just confirming ...

What happened to AVSIM

I think the problem with the written word is that it's all too easy to be misinterpreted. Forums are a typical example of how a perfectly innocent remark can be misconstrued and seen as a snipe or a sarcastic remark. I agree Stephen, very wise of you to advocate the 'burning of bridges' this is something as we get older becomes more important, life is far too short to hold grudges. As for the misinterpretation of words, try this little example and see how many different ways of saying one sentence can influence it's meaning. Just emphasis the underlined word....

I like these! .......

Another good example.....

"He would have died if we hadn't of cut his leg off"

(Eg...He is dead: we cut his leg off. But he would have died anyway, even if we hadn't of cut his leg off)

"He would have died if we hadn't of cut his leg off"

(Eg....He is alive:   He is alive because we cut his leg off.   If we had not cut his leg off, he would have died).

Same sentance:   in one intonation the subject is dead, in the other he is alive... thats the English language for ya'!

Sorry for the O/T ..... light relief and all ...

Alain, for the sake of preventing misunderstandings, and since you brought it up, let's clarify a few things.

You requested closure of your account at ORBX in protest, after it was decided that a hardware sub forum was closed. Nothing to do with products / support.

A number of other members protested with conduct unbecoming, and non-constructive, and had their accounts restricted.

As a result of their direct requests, Tom Allensworth opened the forum here, and the result speaks for itself. Self selected interest group, you might say.

The fact that you "can't let go" and feel the need to offer the same rhetoric on threads that appear here from time to time makes me feel a little sad.

I had no idea that the closure of the forum in question had damaged you so severely, and so for that I am sorry.

As for the reason why Mr Allensworth wanted to start the forum, you would have to look at the content and decide whether that was an inspired decision, or otherwise.

Let go, Alain, and get on with your life. Take a step outside and breathe the fresh air. There is a whole world out there.

Based on past experience, I have little doubt that a flame-war of sorts will ensue as a result of this, with each member pushing their specific agenda.

So be it, but I shall exercise some inner Zen, and resist feeding trolls, more than I may have already.

Have a nice day, and we'll see Jetsmell over at the support forum when he is ready.

Edit: sorry Stephen, missed your post while I was typing my essay. Not snarky or bitter, but on reflection you would have to question the constructiveness of most posts / threads here. I know how I find them. I'll leave it to others to form their own opinions.

Ian, you are wrong, below you will read what my last post was in Orbx's forum, never did I ask for my account to be closed, I said that I was not writing on their forums anymore for reasons described below, I was banned AFTER Orbx's CEO spilled the bean on himself in the Flight's forums here at Avsim on what he told me regarding the upcoming MS Flight (it was only 5% of what I already knew about Flight) NEVER have I named my sources, and that was what....about 2 years after my last post overthere, so I never requested for my account to be deleted as I was still going there from time to time and if my memory is not playing games on me I may have posted again at one point.

Again, the closure of a specific forum (hardware) at Orbx as nothing to do with why I did not want to post there anymore but everything to do with how peoples where treated over there if they expressed (in a polite manner) their opinions against Orbx or their products, I don't know who at Orbx told you otherwise.

Here is what I posted last in the Orbx's forum, and by the way my post was promptly deleted as many others.

==========================

I will not be writing on this forums anymore unless I need support for a product I already have from Orbx.

There is two type of man, the leaders and the followers....I'm the first type of man, that is why I have to quit giving my opinion here.

I like a good discussion when it is a respectful one and so far that's what this forums allowed us to have BUT I will never keep quiet in fears of been kick out of this forum or because I can upset somebody who does not agree with me or the opinion expressed by some members when it's done respectfully.

In the past few days, including today, I saw some member's post been deleted,  post where members were expressing their opinions on a specific subject in a manner I will consider a little sarcastic but very laughable at in a good way, it is sad to see something like that happening for no good reason (reason for deleting not explained).....I'm sure a lot of you are getting my drift.

Like one of the deleted post said......if you stand up for what you believe you will be shot down...guess what I am standing up and I will never bend over to take it up the %^)@ and say thank you because I'm told to.

So long guys...

Australians are bad losers when it comes to rugby as well. LOL

And before "percieved" power mongers jump in, thats factual humour. Lighten up guys, Avsim can be percieved as bad as Orbx and vice versa. That is the nature of the internet and the ability to delete that which "they" deem unfit for others to see. That is the price we pay for "free world free speech"

AND those that defend this concept of free speech ARE the worst offenders. I guess they only like it when it is going their way! Human nature at its worst.

Ian, you are wrong,

Imo  it appears in more than one way...

Alain... your posts here have been respectful... "matter of fact" it seems to me.

@hcornea

Your not-so-subtle attempts to belittle / discredit Alain do not reflect well on you / Orbx... whatever it is, it does not go un-noticed - and in no way causes Alain to appear as "the malcontent".

There must be a LOT of money in developing scenery or FSX  addons because I can tell you categorically during my 15 years in Biz, I would NOT be turning customers away if I was struggling to turn a profit unless the attitude is seriously insulting or they are being a complete dick regarding discounting.

ZORAN

When I buy Orbx scenery (recently bought the Broome scenery, have most of their Australian stuff and New Zealand stuff... don't have any of their american stuff, Have FTX England but not likely to get the other UK ones or small UK airports) I am buying scenery. Not forum access.

I have only really used their forum for help with compatibility issues, usually by discribing the problem and what I'v done/tried already and what I want to achieve.

I don't want to have them improve their own product, I just want the product to show up as they intended on my PC, and if there's say, random jetways appearing in the middle of the apron at YBBN, I'm going to come to them with the expectation that I did something wrong, and that they might have an idea on how to fix it.

In that specific case, it was due to some duplicate YBBN .bgl's that were installed by a completley different company's AI traffic product. Took them about 12 to 20 hours to get the response back, and within 24 hours I had fixed it.

I don't actually bother engaging with their actual community things like screenshots etc, just the support. I already have enough community engagement at Vatsim and here.

If you immediatley jump in and say "You lied, your product sucks, the other scenery I have stopped working because of your scenery, your scenery has random objects that ruin the picture that are not in any of your screenshots, and I literally can't taxi anywhere without bumping into debris on the runways" - Then more's the pity to you.

(Scenery layers are funny things. FTX going above UK2000 tends to make trees appear on runways in some locations - I didn't even need their support forum to figure out how to fix that one... stick the UK2000 sceneries above the FTX england layer).

"I demand that you make YSSY". is also a bit of a lead balloon for an introduction.

Hendo,

You are the beneficiary of an undecided jury, so to speak. Most of us see your copy of the pirate site as pure frustration that comes from exasperation over injustice. One senior member said that you were perhaps actually trying to prevent piracy from happening by warning them that their actions are contributing to it. I don't buy it, but as a result you are not banned permanently for promoting piracy.

However, being royally frustrated is not a license to make what amounts to justification for piracy. There is no justification for piracy and ORBX does not deserve to have their software stolen, nor is it their fault. It is just as wrong to steal from someone who you think mistreats you as it is a little ole lady from Pasadena. Therefore you will be suspended 30 days for suggesting otherwise.

The use of bad language is strictly against our ToS. I know you believe you have been really hurt, but I know the pain is felt on both sides. We have been down this road a few times already. You can fly off the handle and say things that hurt too. I can vouch for that. Slapping you around is not going to help fix that, but swearing is not allowed. - 14 days suspension.

Therefore you will have 45 days to cool down a bit, get outside and go skiing, throwing snowballs, chasing kangaroos, or whatever else you guys do down there when not getting into fights.

Kind regards,

You address your post to Hendo, yet he is in no position to view it and you have posted it on a public forum for all to read. Why is this just not an email to Hendo?

This seems to be going down the same path as Srdan Word Not Allowed when he was banned and everything publicly posted.

Also, why delete his post if it contains foul language, yet you take an image of it and re-post for all to see?

Have you searched your forums for how many times "bad language" has been used?  I don't see any posts from administrators calling someone out publicly and then suspending like you have done with Hendo.

34glwk6.jpg

It seems a LOT of assumptions are being made from very little information, all I get from reading his post is that he is agreeing/letting others know that there is pirating of Orbx software out there due to the fact that customers are not being treated fairly.  I definitely do not read this as a way of promoting or justifying piracy.

I hope the senior members of the "undecided jury" took it upon themselves to discuss with Hendo what his intentions were, and could this have been a misinterpretation?

I prefer the official Captain Sim forum ...   :P

There are developers'/commercial forums and there are places like AVSIM. Tom (A.) may deny that AVSIM is a democratic place (compare the ToS) but it's definitely the better forum to argue about things (in a civilized manner, of course!).

Use AVSIM for discussions and arguments, leave developers' forums for support and other requests only. (Yes, there's great - unofficial - support on AVSIM, too!)

Just two (Euro) cents of mine ...
