"WED Contest - Amazing Prize"

Featured Replies

One thing that would really help is for LR to keep updating the default WED library with additional art-assets. Cause with this contest going on I would hate to see hundreds of aiports with basically the same buildings. Of course there are library alternatives like OpenSceneryX, Ruscenery but in the case of this contest, we are limited to use the default library only.

Not only in this contest but for airports that shall become part of the default airports too. But I think it is a very good idea to start with such a contest. Then you will have a usefull number of default airports and if they look okay, this will probably motivate other people to their best for other airports too.

I think in reality nearly every X-Plane system will include OpenScenery but they can't really make decisions about these libraries..

I have the feeling that such a feature wouldn't only be stopped by Austin but by Ben Supnik, too.

Ok if this was "Wheel of Fortune" I'm going to need a few more letters to solve...how bout just saying it straight?

As far as a realistic feature that is 100% in LR's control that they should be able to implement quickly without much pushback I'd probablly go for the visual range limitation at altitude.  I hate the fog pirouetting around my aircraft when I pan my view using Track IR.  With 64 bit this artificial limit should be lifted sooner not later.

I'd rather see 3PD handle the AI traffic than LR but agree it's way up there on the "needs to be addressed" list!

I'd love to see the possibility to manipulate radios with mouse wheel. The current clickspot system on the majority of knobs is horrible.

OMG YES!!!!

Absolutely. Especially when using trackir to look around the VC, the clickspot system is a right royal pain in the arse.

Nice idea to get better airports into Xplane. Should of had a rule no duplicates; I can see 140 KJFK's being submitted, heh.

Wish there would be master list, where u check out an airport you want to design to avoid duplicates and to give the more challenging airports to more experienced Wed users.

Interesting contest. Cool idea.

Im not sure I know enough about WED to attempt something like this. Ive only used it to enhance some existing airports with Static parked planes. Maybe Ill practice a little with it.

I had a go beginning of last week and now find it quite easy. My point is .. if an old duffer like me can do it most people should be churning out masterpieces in short order! ;)

Yeah, duplicates will happen most likely, sadly...

But also remember:

  • No Class Bravo airport please (large international airports)

So KJFK wouldn't even qualify for the contest...

Does anyone know the whereabouts of a proper manual for the new version of WED? The link on the help tab points to the old version...

This is a brilliant idea, however, a slight word of caution when it comes to the prize. Awhile back, Austin offered a similar prize for the best screenshot taken from XPX. Come the end of the competition, he announced that he won, and his prize would be to make XPX even more awesome!

Only Austin could do something that daft! Lol
