We're cracking the FS9 city texture problem!

Wouldn't it be a great 10th birthday present if the ones with the source code would re-compile the dll (my guess is it's the G2D.dll) to support 1024 textures.

It should be a simple thing to do, not requiring a major code overhaul.

Would that be as easy to do, Peter? Just re-compile present code? The benefits for FS9 would be fabulous!

One way to beat the system is simply to provide alternative landclass textures where needed! By this I mean adding a texture folder to your landclass layer and filling that folder with custom landclas

Well that would be up to Microsoft because they own the sourcecode. I think it shouldn't be such a difficult job if they wanted to do it. But it wont happen, it was just whishful thinking.
Think what would happen to the FSX related sales if users started migrating back to FS9 again. Bad business.

of course it is, I see it selling all over the world on my travels, even selling in supermarkets in the most random places. Had to wait till I was in the UK to purchase a new copy of FS9 on eBay to my annoyance.

Great, now let's get back on topic.  I think between us all we have figured out how these textures have been converted.  What's outlined here in this thread is great info.  Maybe I need to contact Zinertech to see if their still in the game...  B)

Still working through things. There's some good info in this thread though.

On Windows Vista/7:

- Back up folder to be converted

- Copy Imagetool.exe to folder being converted

- Shift-Rightclick into folder

- Select "Open Command Window here"

- Enter what Jim posted above

imagetool -brief -8 -e bmp *.bmp

- Hit enter and wait

- Wait

- When done, test result in FS9

- When result is displeasing, delete the converted folder and restore the backup

Which is exactly what I have done.

You mean from the download link you tried?

That's correct.

Remember, in my case the textures that this link supplied were not competing against default FS9 textures or straight Ground Environment Pro textures but textures provided from a variety of sources.
