August 6, 201312 yr Does it stall like a real Tomahawk? And do you recover using the unique Tomahawk recovery sequence? I used to teach on these aeroplanes. Scary. Chillblast Core i5 14600KF Liquid Cooled RTX 4070 SUPER 32GB RAM. Internet: 1 Gig Fibre. HoneyComb Throttle & Flight System. UK PPL since 2006 current on PA-28, C-152, C172, Decathlon, C-42 based at EGHP.
August 7, 201312 yr Got it today B) It's certainly not the fastest or most powerful plane in the world but a lot more fun than the C152. Visibility is actually better because of the almost-bubble canopy and thin wings. It comes with a nice little selection of paint schemes - some look rather modern, others look more like an original factory livery. Interior also looks great and suitably filthy. Really like how it flies. Just for fun I tried deliberately being uncoordinated and too slow on the turn to final. You'd have to be pretty ham-fisted to actually get it into a spin, but once it happened, it was very sudden. There was no way I was going to have enough time to recover. Keep in mind I'm also running AccuFeel 2.0 with this AC. The poorly looped engine sound is a bit of a problem, especially when trying to lean the mixture since it gives the impression that the engine is running rough. Hopefully they can cut up the sound better and issue a patch. -
August 8, 201312 yr I just had my first few minutes in it last night, and it left me wanting more. More time to fly it, that is. Alabeo seems to have taken Carenado's old mission of re-creating grotty old trainers and run with it.
August 8, 201312 yr Really nice plane - and lots of fun to fly! As a temporary fix for the sound, I renamed rpm3.wav to rpm3.wav.xx, made a copy of xrpm4.wav, and called it rpm3.wav. Also, if anyone has problems with swimming textures on top of the glareshield, send me a PM with your email address. Bert
August 10, 201312 yr Alabeo did a great job on this! It has gorgeous modelling and textures (interior and exterior), the Lotus style landing lights (the strobe lights even light up the ground like the NGX) and best of all the flight model is very well done (by Bernt Stolle.) The night lighting for the gauges is excellent with every gauge face and dial well lit, although the radio buttons don't have backlighting.. not sure if that's realistic or not. There are even switch sounds (for the few switches there are in the Tomahawk) and a custom stall buffet sound. It has a few little issues like the sound loop recording mentioned already, and the ignition key animation is wonkey, but other than that.. this is how a simple and inexpensive trainer should be done in FSX
August 10, 201312 yr Talking about traumahawk.. someone uploaded this video yesterday.. not sure if tomahawk but still funny and related somehow.. Loved that video! It reminded me of a bud of mine that hates flying. Thanks for sharing. Alexander Alonso
August 16, 201312 yr As a temporary fix for the sound, I renamed rpm3.wav to rpm3.wav.xx, made a copy of xrpm4.wav, and called it rpm3.wav Thanks Bert. I absolutely love this plane for low and slow (actually very slow) flying. The instrument panel and the instruments are so clear to the eye, that this may become my favorite slow GA. Once again, thanks!
August 20, 201312 yr PA38 TOMAHAWK II SERVICE PACK 20130820 RELEASED Released August 20th, 2013, 2030GMT Modifications: - Turn Coordinator Ball Centered. - Separated Radio and Nav and Panel lighting. - Left logo RAAF livery flipped. - Registration corrected in RAAF livery. - Minor sound issues. You don't need this update if you downloaded the aircraft after August 20th, 2013, 2030GMT
August 20, 201312 yr Interesting - do not see the update at the Alabeo site.. It is there. Log into your account, and on the line item with your PA38 order, on the far right there is a blue 'Update' button.
August 21, 201312 yr Just tried this update - sound issue fixed, instrument lighting fixed (the OBS backlight turned with the compass card - now the whole dial is lit), and the reg issues seem sorted (but I had the aussiex.org fix for that anyway). Dont seem to have seperate panel/nav and radio lighting tho' - the radio knob does nothing but the panel lights up the dials and the transponder. Otherwise its made a brilliant little addon better..
August 22, 201312 yr I heard somewhere that Alabeo is Carenado. Bob Yes, they are. Alabeo is a different product proposition; simpler aircraft and with minimal (if any) documentation. I believe some different designers may be involved too. But they are ultimately Carenado. Personally, I like the Alabeo stuff more than the Carenado line at the moment. The PA38 was almost half what I paid for the CT206H and I've got to say I've done a lot of fun flying in the Alabeo PA-38, whereas the CT206H bores me senseless..... poor view, dull cockpit, dull flight characteristics (IMO), just dull. Most of my opinions there apply to the RW aircraft, so I'm not criticizing Carenado as much as it sounds. It was just a poor purchasing choice on my part. I do think it's a very safe, unadventurous choice for them though. But others love it.
August 22, 201312 yr Yes, they are. Alabeo is a different product proposition; simpler aircraft and with minimal (if any) documentation. It would be hard for Alabeo to provide less documentation than what Carenado did for my 337H, 172N and 15II. On the other hand, FSD International has some problems with its Cessna 337, but the documentation is massive in comparison to what Carenaod provides. However, the Tomahawk might be a purchase even though I've never flown in one. Ernie
