DX10 Fixer released!

Featured Replies

Tried it and I haven't seen any noticeable difference between DX9 and DX10... Don't understand what all the praise is for.

Ya bit, did ya?  Try this...run with no in-FSX FPS limit.  Fly the same scenario of your choice.  Even with the as-is, raw DX10 preview, your frame rates should soar, with  the BP=0 tweak in place inside your FSX.cfg   We all saw that years ago.  But, everybody had rendering issues, running DX10 Preview, which this product tries to address. That's about it in a nut shell. Such things as the way of water animation is much better with DX10.  Etc....

IMO, water animation in DX10 mode is no better than REX updated water animation in DX9 mode. In fact, the water in DX10 mode is currently inferior on my PC, because the lighter areas are purple in colour (not white). I really need to get that sorted.

Hi Chris, I meant the water animation. Well, of course all is subjective...IMO, when I tried DX10 Prev...I found the water had more natural wave animation. If you could merely choose to run with DX10 without all the intervention, then for myself, it would be a forgone conclusion....

Really? Have any comparison pics? The purple part that is.

I agree with this...I am finding water totally inferior to DX9 with REX water. I see the purple too, and just doesn't have the dynamic look like REX Sparkling water. Not sure what the issue is.

I have just noticed that I did not have "DX10 Optimised" checked for the water in the REX menu. I am going to check this out now, and then report back with the results.

Thanks - I'll definitely take a look at this too.

@Q_Flyer - Try disabling  effects.

If that fixes it then there is an option on the menu bar to reduce the set of effects that are converted.

There is a further (undocumented as yet) method to exclude individual effects - pm if you think this might be needed

Marc,

Make sure that you have "DX10 Optimised" checked in the REX Water Options. This seems to have cured my purple problem with the lighter areas. I still think that the animation looks very "flat" compared to the nice wave animation effect with REX in DX9 mode, but I will play around with the textures and settings, and see if I can get it to "play ball" :smile:

Yeah, more examples of the before glitches and after fixes would really help sell this more.

Several value points (FTX Global being key to me), but this is what I'm talking about:

I actually went back to FSX default wave animations after switching to DX10. Not only because I read not all available REX animations do 'play ball' with DX10 (and can even degrade performance) but also because I think the default FSX DX10 wave animation is pretty nice and certainly good enough for me!

Two workaround options for me - convert only Simple Lights and Effects with the fixer, or rename the smoke effect used by the MDL so it could no longer be used. (I chose the latter for now.) I believe this is linked to my GPU choking on particulate nature of the effect (similar to clouds performance) with SGSS enabled. Anyway, something to look at.

What is the name of the file to disable?

Thanks,

Dirk.

Chris, what I liked right off when having first tried out the stock as is DX10 Preview Mode, was that the waves 'seemed' driven by the wind direction.  I didn't sense that with DX9 in charge.

For a new person as myself; how will this tell me if I need it or not?  Can you guys believe this, 14 pages of discussion and no one has post a couple of good screen shots to tell what the improvements are? Or what the benefits are ?

Ok...I just bought this.  I had most of the day to think about it...and just wanted to post, that while I think the marketing of this program  basically leads to the end asking price of $35.00, I wanted to reward Steve for offering his time and services to the free domain in his lead-up offerings on Avsim.  I had not ever used them (his Avsim library fix patches), actually, but really have admired all those that have taken that path, and shared FREELY with us all. I have enjoyed those offerings along the years, and now wish to pay it forward, with this purchase of Steve's DX10 Fixer.

I just set it up, and am about to make my first FSXG/DX10 flight out of Michigan. I am crossing my fingers that my purchase will bring many smiles to this kisser.  But...I also have a good feeling, in that I 'paid back' into the time line no matter what the maiden flight offers.......  Thanks Steve for your time and you pre-payware generosity, and to all of your ilk. Thank you all....you have made my hobby so much more than without your vast, most generous, and talented gifts.

So, here goes...wish me luck with my maiden 'Steve's DX10 FIXER' super duper, whalooper DX10 a zooper!

Zoom-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------->FSX DX10 ...here I come!

Post Edit:

IT WORKS!

* Comm towers are no longer solid

* No concrete and runway flicker!

* smoooooooooth flight animation.

* Rex DX10 opt'ed water textures now again, show wind-driven wave animation that I so loved in DX10, but now looks great with minimal funky water color!

OK...ok....my from-the-heart-  donation,  is a WORKING donation, man....this thing makes DX10------WORK!  :)   Back to my flight around KFNT....touch and go's...a la' DX10.....

Happy Camper Mitch, or Ses...I answer to both....

Post Edit 2:  Stevejp....I'm just took off from an island in the Caribbean and your water fix is fabulous!  It looks just every bit as good as being driven by DX9, BUT....BUT...I now have that beautiful frothing wave crest action that really makes it virtual.  You see the wind upon the waves that is not there driven by DX9.  Thank you...this works...and works very well.  I had never messed with my Shader Folder, just installed your program.  Ran it, set it up...and was flying driven by DX10 in five minutes.  WOW....

Post Edit 3:   Just turned on Light Bloom, and not one FPS hit.  Atmospherics look great!  This is one option that I could never use to effect in DX9.  Back to the flight.....  Back again to post that cloud reflections using DX10 have a true 3D depth, and 'texture' to them as they reflect off the surface of the water, be it lake or ocean.  :)))))))
