DX10 Fixer released!

Featured Replies

Steve, thank you for contacting me and pointing to the support options.

I think I've corrected some things with the bmp file by coping the original from my Acronis backup.

Now I can't get Fraps to show FPS in the corner (none of the 4)? I need it back.

Thanks,

Dirk.

I will look into fraps - know one of the beta testers was using it as he was making videos with it.

I don't think you are alone with bmps converted to dds - I am seen someone else complaining about bkg.bmp not being found.

I have added a warning into the manual for now, and will  update the installer to a handle the situation more gracefully.

You need to re-run your test or maybe you were only looking at the wrong time?

Enabled this displays two sets of terrain textures at the same time when at dusk and dawn, the LM and daytime textures so that it is just a "smooth" transition as time passes. When disabled, it will just "jump" from day to LM texture or vice versa during the appropriate time.

If that's the case, then my dawn and dusk transitions must be controlled by REX Essential......or the change occurs when the Sun gets higher in the sky. I will test this again, and report back.

On a side note, I also can't get the framerate counter to work in Fraps (I have the full payware version).

Full payware here as well. I'm used to it for comparing my different setups and I'd like to have it back.

Hi Chris,

REX abides to the SDK in regards to textures, it doesn't actually control the actual time events. Please understand that the time of occurrence of dusk is not at the exact time as specified by the dusk option within FSX, rather 8-10 minutes PRIOR. Same goes for dawn, which is 8-10 minutes AFTERWARDS.

@Steve, thank you for all your hard work, we intend to purchase your product for testing purposes and look forward to it.

Cheers!

Rather than start a new thread, can I add my praise for this absolutely amazing add on.

It truly has been a seismic few weeks for our hobby, crowned by this absolute miracle software that finally allows us to see the ACES team's true vision for FSX.

While it may not be a totally perfect solution, it's near enough to being so to largely consign DX9 FSX to the history books.

A remarkable technical achievement Steve. Thanks so much - I'd always hoped the day would dawn when the promise of the DX10 demo could be realized. Just the immersion derived from proper shading in the virtual cockpit is worth much, much more than the asking price, to say nothing of the clearly better performance.

There's never been a better time to be in this hobby. Just when you think you've seen it all, in terms of software innovation, something else arrives to change that perception.

An unforgettable year for flight simulation.

Does FlightBeam's PHX/IAD work with Steve's Fix; day and night?

Steve Great job on getting your hard work and effort to this point!

By all the positive responses you achieved something you deserve to be proud of - Congratulations!

I'm not a total DX10 convert yet, and I know you are going to be the one to do it...and I am purchasing just get my feet wet..maybe more...(would like to see NV driver team tackle some issues if we can budge them).

Question, can you tell me what tools you are using for the texture conversions when needed i.e; Nvidia's texture tools via script or PS plug-in, MR tools or FSX SDK imagetool etc?

Reason for asking is strictly mip quality related.

Thank you!

I propose that all users who can only part with 15 or less bucks for this add-on do the following;

1.) pretend you just found a great add on for 15 bucks. Take that money and put it in a secret place for safe keeping, or continue the ruse by paying it to an imaginary developer who lives in your closet.

2.) wait a month.

3.) pretend you just found another great add on for 15 bucks!

4.) pretend that your previous secret stash is really a 15 dollar coupon for a half off special!!

5.) Bum 5 bucks from your parents/spouse/siblings/bum on the street, -or- , look in the bottom of the washing machine for that really clean money that makes all that noise during the spin cycle.

6.) Now you can buy the DX10 fixer for half off... and your sim will love you for it.

On a side note;

I realize one hates to part with an old friend like fly tampa... who seem to have the most problems with super10... But at some point... one realizes there are other blonds with big boobs in the world.

Welcome aboard!

There are no texture conversions involved at all.

The only exception to that is that for old FS8 aircraft that use  8 bit textures there is a tool supplied (DX10Toolbox)  that can batch convert to DXT1 using ImageTool.

So for example the Milton Shupe Dash 7 uses 8Bit for the pilots and some small parts such as wheels.

I confess that my first stab at this problem did use texture atlases - it parsed the legacy BGL and constructed combined night/day textures - but I found that it was actually unnecessary.  Now if anyone wants a lightly used legacy BGL parser....

> Will the Fix cure my OOM problems?

No.

I beg to differ! It fixed mine.

There must have been something that was *just* tipping it over the edge. Try as I might, I couldn't tweak DX9 any more. The PMDG NGX would work fine, but not the 777. Believe it or not, the vain hope that DX10 may help was one of the things that made me [re]try DX10 (and therefore Steve's tool).

Not only did my framerates go up, my TBM and LOD settings could stand to go up a notch or two, picture quality improved overall ... and ... my OOMs disappeared. I may not know exactly why - and it may have been a side-effect or coincidence - but disappear they did.

So ... I'm not claiming DX10+DX10Fixer is a solution to OOMs ... but if you're already half sold on all its *other* benefits, then I'd say "go for it".

Alternatively maybe you could could upgrade all of your hardware to achieve the same perfomance increase (if you are not maxed out on hardware already) .

I've never been able to run bloom, self shadowing, shadows on ground and building shadows at 4xSGSS before.

Will the Fix cure my OOM problems?

You are far less likely to see OOM problems when using DX10, because there is an increased amount of VAS available. However, I still think it is worth disabling various addon scenery areas that are not required for particular flights. DX10 mode may reduce the chances of an OOM, but you can still get one if you try to run a huge number of complex addons for a single flight.
