How many PMDG 777s have been sold?

Featured Replies

PMDG has never shared their internal sales data.

Consumers (us) don't need to know anyway. We buy the products or we don't. There isn't any stock tied to quarterly earnings reports.

Although, if PMDG had an IPO, I would get some shares. :D

You can estimate it but will never get actual numbers.  Many years ago Andrew Herd, a flight sim addon reviewer, and someone who seemed to have some very good inside knowledge of various addon companies estimated that a very high sales addon would sell between 10 and 20,000 units.

Looking at the Avsim library there have been approx. 13,000+ downloads of the user liveries that have been added to the library.  Not every PMDG 777 buyer will download a user uploaded livery, although a lot will, and certainly not everyone will download all of them, so maybe that is a sign that 10,000 is a good number.  (30% download a livery and maybe download 3 or 4 of them).

Bottom line is that they will probably end up at 20,000 units sold but all that should matter to us as simmers is that they sell enough to make a good return of their investment so that they are motivated to keep making more addons for us.  Keep in mind at 20,000 units or $1,800,000 in sales they have to pay for their full time staff of 20 people during the entire 2 year development cycle plus all of their other costs, buildings, computer infastructure, ecellerate security, etc, etc.  It's not as much as it might seem.

Actually, Captain Randazzo and Ryan M. were telling me just the other day they are stealing an idea from the McDonald's Hamburger stands of days gone by.  They are going to construct a huge PMDG sign, and beneath the logo will be the mantra:

Billions and Billions Served

So true.  As Tiger Woods, Paul McCartney and Robin Williams all found out in Divorce Court, a Million Bucks (or even several hundreds of millions) doesn't go nearly as far as it used to!  Poor Ms. Woods had to settle for buying an Island.  In the past, she could have bought a mid-sized Country in Europe with what she collected from El Tigre.

Guess one could say, if PMDG scales back on their next untold project that may be the best indicator.

It's very early days for the T-7.  I'm seeing more people online (Vatsim or PE) telling me "I just got the T7, I was late to the party"...

So, there are the 'early adopters' who couldn't wait, then the fence sitters will hop in and then the momentum will build, as positive word-of-mouth spreads around.  That's golden, you cannot buy that kind of advertising.

PMDG is simply put, amazing.  I would buy the Uzbekistan phone book if they printed it.

I toured the Boeing plant in Everett, WA (KBFI) and was knocked down by the prowess and ingenuity of the engineering staff.  When I see their work reflected in the beauty that is PMDG-modeled virtual aircraft, it simply blows me away.  I used to think the smartest guys in the room were all congregating at Boeing.  Now I know better, Captain Randazzo has snagged some of them to work on his team!

Simply put, there is no substitute for quality.  PMDG delivers it.  Every time.  I came back to FSX principally because of the NGX.  Then the exotic new girl showed up.  Once again it was (and is) WOW time.

I hope they sell boodles of T7s and I'm betting they surely will.  As they learn new techniques, they are able to bring new aircraft to the table faster, and that is good news for their team, and the simulation enthusiasts as well.

I think this topic needs to be locked :) , I am sure the poster does not want to be flamed even though the question is pretty silly.

I used the "heartburn" method (you know, you get gas after having had a big meal) and concluded that if MY numbers are correct, Rob owes me a lot of rent money. :LMAO:

Judging by the load on the servers on lanuch day and that they have 20k likes on facebook I guess like 10,000 so far

Probably a lot less than that. There's no denying that the 777 is an amazing product, but there are simply not enough people in this community that purchase add-ons for it to be that high.

I did look at the project Tupolev, it looks around the same as the Maddog i.e. designed for FS9, looks like FS9.
There's FSX native TU-154B2, in my opinion it looks good enough as it's free and yet it simulates the systems very well.
