October 4, 201411 yr There is no shadowing on the 737 NGX, Adam - only the 777 has cockpit shadowing. Thanks for putting me out of my misery Paul! YET ... I could have sworn I had them working in DX10 once. Mind you, those home-made chocolate biscuits I found in the cupboard do taste a bit funny, now I come to think of it  Adam.
October 5, 201411 yr No shadows in 737NGX bothered me a lot, but now after flying the 777 the NGX is not that interesting to me anymore. I am still waiting for the PMDG 747 V2. Ric Elmore

I must admit that, fantastic as the NGX is, I've spent more time in the Airbus lately! The 747 V1 is still on my system (it's still a *classic*) and I'm also looking forward to V2. The Jumbo is a legend. For some reason, I find the 777 lacking in character/personality ... and it's so HUGE! At the end of the day, the NGX VC [day] lighting changes quite nicely anyway - even without shadowing - so not having HD shadows isn't a big one for me either. Adam.
October 9, 201411 yr Thats why I'm back at 2.3 ;-) I could be reading it the wrong way but Steve's blog states, in regard to EZCA issues, If using EZDOK you must go into debug dialog and select “Shadow Version 4″ Posted by stevefsx | October 1, 2014, 9:14 pm Works here. Hence the HU.

December 17, 201411 yr Hi all, this is not about the T777 but the Lion heart Lear jet Im getting cannot find "smap section in model" when trying to activate the toolbox VC shadows Any ideas what i should do? ZORAN
December 17, 201411 yr Commercial Member edit fsx.cfg and add the ForceVCShadowMap=1 to [Display] - with that setting you no longer need to use the toolbox to enable shadows individually. My FSX Analysis Blog
December 17, 201411 yr Hi Steve, with the shadows I'm always very confused. What are the best settings. I use the PMDG 777 and Aerosoft Airbus. Shadow walls? Shadows HD ........ What are in your opinion the optimal settings for large aircraft. December 17, 201411 yr Commercial Member For my main profile, I tick toned shadows, I don't enable shadow boost, I tick the two options not to reduce the shadow strength, I tick Force VC Walls, HD Shadows and set the selector to HD Biz Jets and Above. I have two more profiles with HD All aircraft selected The problem with HD All aircraft is that for some small aircraft the shadow cutoff outside the aircraft can be annoying on the wing - for one of these profiles I go into the debug dialog and untick show Exterior Shadows which can sometimes improve this I also have a profile for Legacy Aircraft with the legacy shadow options selected. February 25, 201511 yr Is there a performance loss with cockpit shadows in the ngx? David J. February 25, 201511 yr Commercial Member Shadows don't work in ngx see pinned post. Having aircraft cast shadows on self ticked has some performance impact but for most setups it is small My FSX Analysis Blog
May 10, 201511 yr This has been updated, right? I've been testing for the last couple of hours and in both of them I was able to get inside cockpit shadows. I just need to make sure some options must be ticked so that it works, such as "cast shadows in itself", and within DX10 Fixer, "force VC walls" and also that dropdown list regarding HD shadows all aircraft, airliners only, bizjets, etc. Not sure why this option exists, I mean, why not to enable for all aircraft at once only. May 10, 201511 yr Commercial Member Yes, PMDG recently updated the 737 to allow VC shadows to work On large jet airlines there is almost no downside to hd shadows other than close up external cameras. For bizjet and above sized aircraft there is usually no downside but if a customer had a collection of large piston engined transports or ww2 bombers they might see some odd effects and so not want hd shadows enabled by default for all aircraft of that size. For GA aircraft some gain with hd shadows and some don't e,g the caravan looks odd if you look backwards as shadows are cut off half way town the cabin, similarly aircraft where you can see the wings may show an obvious shadow cutoff.
