Why are flight simmers so rude to each other?

Featured Replies

If it truly bothers anyone (I can't really see any reason why it should especially when the questions aren't being directly specifically at any individual 99.99% of the time) then why not just step aside and let someone who is willing answer the question. While they're at it they can possibly teach the new poster how to fish.

I actually don't use the search feature built into AVSIM because I don't find that it is of much use or is able to rank results based on relevance. I would rather not click through hundreds of posts to possibly find an answer. I get much better results by going to Google and funny enough it usually finds the right topic in AVSIM for me on the first try.

Sometimes, it can be fun to share someone else's new discovery and encourage them. I know that isn't up everyone's alley, but hey it's your hobby to kill.

I like this post mate, I like it a lot.

Was recently happy to step in and answer a question politely for a member who got absolutely slammed for asking it and having an opinion.

The initial response he got was garbage, rude and arrogant.

I can also say that the individuals involved haven't appeared here which is, well........a good thing and probably says something.

It's pretty simple, basic manners. Yes, sometimes questions asked may be repetitive and annoying to some. However access that side of your brain that stops your pig headed rude side know it all from coming out.

Let's all enjoy the hobby and social interaction as we would if meeting in person.

Some Flight simmers don't have a life outside of FSX/Avsim   Its normaly the ones that are not the Forum administrators but  act like the forum Police telling people they have to Sign there post etc

Being straight to the point is probably a result of answering the same questions 20 different times.

I'd have to ask why, if somebody really doesn't want to give a 21st answer, and can't be helpful and/or pleasant, they bother to answer at all.  You have to assume it has something to do with the size of their own egos.

Funny there are no posts from any1 who might be thought of a bull. Ironic. Seriosly...

The original question hasn't been asked enough times yet.

Nicely put Matt...

Nicely put Howard, you really articulate well.  There is at least one 'petty tyrant' in every office and believe me when I say I've worked with many.  Having said that they don't last long, especially in the current business climate.  Apologies if I have strayed from the topic.  Hope you are having a great trip but really you should come and stay with us here you know, even though we are having absolutely the worst November weather on record.

Its because that question may be cluttering the forum with multiple threads making it hard to sift through that garbage for useful information or new questions that haven't been asked. Forum etiquette goes both ways regarding noobs and vets.

Anyone keen to avoid the "garbage" (I bet that makes the newcomers feel special) could always...um...do a search?

Seriously, how often is a form cluttered with such posts? Define "cluttered".

And while you're at it define "garbage", and explain what business you have determining what is and isn't for the rest of us ?

EDIT: it really does become quite plain how much the attitude/viewpoint we're discussing here revolves around ego.

This place is actualy quite calm, compared to some places I've been to. Two hours reading some forums and I'm emotionally scarred from all the stuff I've read.

True, it's all relative. For some real, unmoderated, unrestricted nastiness, you can't beat UseNet. On the other hand, you'll also find some very intelligent, and helpful comment there too.

So assuming this person knows the answer to the question and has the time and inclination to type something, instead of giving the answer and rendering the thread useful for anyone who comes along afterwards, they are going to say "Google it" or "RTFM" and thereby really make it garbage?

I know which of the two I think is really doing the forum a bad service.
