P3D-2.0 - My First Day

Featured Replies

Hi Mitch, as far as I can tell, both ATI and nVidia users have seen the Black Screen problem, although I'm not sure if everyone is seeing it.   It does seem a very common issue though and LM have already responded to say they are aware of it and investigating.

I can see potential in the platform Mitch, but I couldn't begin to recommend it to anyone at this point, due to the fundamental bugs I am seeing;    for example, in Full Screen mode, no mouse clicks at all are working! (and the mouse cursor flashes; something strange is going on).

I have no doubt we'll all be flying P3D 2.4 in the future, but at the current release v2.0, it's just not usable for me.

I hear ya, Dave.  I have decided over the last two days, to hope that this program will be released as a true from-the-ground-up, and at a 64 bit depth.  Then...they have my money as well.  Cheers!

Things have moved on a lot for me, since that most Mitch! .... The cursor/clickspot bug was worked around, the black screen  bug was worked around, and FSUIPC is working perfectly now, which is a BIGGIE for me! ...... So 12 hours on, I'm now flirting outrageously with P3D2, and we're getting more an more comfortable in each other's company.....  I may pop the big question, about a long term commitment soon!

You did what?!?!?

Ok...now this post, I sat up and took notice....you fully deleted it?!?!?

At least LM has some real-life interceptors to deal with clients that uninstall their products.

They get your IP and ...........PING>>>>ZAP   your toast

LOL!  Good go...I'm glad that your concerns were ironed out.  Have fun, Dave! :)

Hi Guys,

I'm amazed at the latest version of P3D. I added REX O/D + and Orbx FS Global and this sim looks AMAZING!!!. I FINALLY feel like I'm getting my moneys worth out of my hardware. Just about two minutes of tweaking and she is running great.

This is the beginning of a beautiful friendship, you couldn't pry this software from my dead hand. Yeah, its that good!.

You have the same video card as I do.  I am getting about the same results you are....

wait till patch 2.1 when we can use the other half of our card!  On another note, I am pleasantly surprised on how V2 is running on only half of a GTX690

Hi,

Been on this thing for about 20 hours, I have had ZERO ISSUES with click spots and/or a flashing mouse. I do have the black screen issue, but an easy work around exists.

This program is far superior to FSX and is even much better than 1.4 right out of the box. For the first time in my simming history, one that dates back to Bruce Artwick and Microsoft Flight Simulator for the Tandy 1000 computer... I'm talking 1980's folks, wow I'm getting old  I am now utilizing most of my state of the art hardware. Once SLI is added, its going to get even better.

I'm working on 12 hours so far without an issue. FSUIPC will work if you rename the SimconnectP3D.dll to .off. Due to eula restrictions I can't say what aircraft I been flying, but I'm very impressed with the P3D v2.

Day 1 is frustrating because if your new like I was to P3D its all a learning curve. You see potential but as humans we NEED to get the sim to show and do all the things we see are on offer on the setting menus. That aside, you see potential which drives you to day 2.

Day two you settle, and fix all the things that were bugging you on day 1. Then, in between playing with all the sliders you actually do some flying. You watch the shadows and the vibrancy of the sim. As you fly at different times of the day, it actually starts to feel like a real life day feels and looks. As an example, its winter here in the UK and the sun never get very high in the sky. The sim felt dull, then I looked out the window, and it looked dull. I warped over to the USA and set the time to midday, the sun shone and it looked bright. I've never felt this in FSX. Oops, sorry was just saying their is a 60 day refund lol.

Sorry, you reminded me how excited you were when you went over to Dx10 and then your DX9 worked great too. It just reminded me how I'm feeling right now. :)

Could someone check to see if the midfield terminal at Indianapolis Intl. KIND is modeled in P3D v.2 and report back? Screenshot not nessasry but would be nice.

Thank you.

Bummer. So they haven't updated any airport scenery?

I'm grateful for you guys leading the charge and getting this platform off the ground. I'll be just a little late to the party as it seems that I just got my 1.4 install working properly with my add-ons, iFly 737 and FSDT KJFK V2 and KLAX(seemed like months emailing Umberto). I then had to do a rebuild, so forgive me if I come along later, but I will be along. When I do you guys will have already worked through getting VATSIM up running and any issues with the T7 and myriad other niggling problems that may arise for the first few months. Best of luck with the new platform!

I honestly don't understand the impatience some are evidencing. For the first time in history, we have a team of folks at L-M who're actively involved in the process, and will be issuing dot releases as quickly as reported problems are fixed...

Agreed

I will hear the aircraft engine, but there are no visuals whatsoever;  just the black screen.

You tried hitting the Enter key I assume?  This is the default behavior for me in FSX and I know others weren't aware that at least for some users simply pressing the Enter key restores the video, and as you describe the audio was still present when the black screen occurs.  I haven't tried it yet in P3D V2 but I'll try in a little bit.  Once I understood how to set the graphics/IQ settings in V2 I began appreciating the changes described in terms of different, more natural visuals.  It's early, and it seems LM is behind working with it.  We'll see soon how responsive the team is in addressing the various issues.  Pretty cool to play w/ the various scenery & lighting settings and watch the impact on % GPU utilization.  I find I can run all but Shadow Quality Ultra and stay well under 100% GPU, then when I move that slider full right she goes up to to 98-99%, which doesn't leave any headroom so I keep GPU around 91%.

Why would they even *think* of doing something like this...

First, P3D has quite a bit of bugs to sort out, (from the looks of this thread), so they certainly don't need to spend any time modeling Indianapolis.

Second, P3D's purpose is to improve things that lack from FSX, (It's basically FSX, but more finished) Like, DX11, shadows... etc. It's not to do stuff like this, they leave this to the developers, just like when FSX was created.

And in the unlikely event that P3D ever did "model" Indianapolis, they would probably have to do all the other major hubs too, which is completely missing the point of FSX and P3D.

Hi,

I agree, P3D is running very nice as it is. Wait until I get full use out of my GTX690. P3D v2.0 is far superior to FSX and is much better than P3D v1.4.

I thought 1.3 was great, 1.4 was awesome. But... 2.0 is.. It's the first iteration of P3D where I truly feel like ghost of FSX past was kicked out of bed..  Sure there are obvious similarities and legacy things but what they managed to pull off is a rarity..  To completely gut the engine of  20 sum plus years of code (FSX still had assembly code in it.. lol), kick DX9 out of bed, merge in DX11, yet still keep backwards capability without invoking "legacy mode" or some other dumb layer that I've seen software companies invoke and claim "full backwards capabilities".. Is amazing.
