AA is terrible

Featured Replies

Im not getting any micro stutters. P3D has an adaptive Vsync provided your GPU supports it. Cant see what GPU you have, but for the most part its the higher end ones which seems to solve alot of problems.

I have a 670 gtx. I will try updating all my drivers and see if it helps but I doubt it will. I'm kinda surprised no one else is reporting this issue. Deal breaker for me right now.

Thats a shame but it is weird not more are mentioning it. Perhaps look at your setup closely. Did you install some scenery addon?   Perhaps lower all the settings to its lowest and see what happens. it will be uglier, but see if the stutters are gone.

I also tried implementing LMs suggestion to put the fps limiter to 10% above 1/2 your monitors refresh rate. 60hz ive tried 33 with pretty good results. Although right now I have it set to unlimited.

Dont give up. Lots of potential to be had and enjoyed.

There's a new "thingy" that fixes the jaggies in FSX and P3D if you have the latest NVidia drivers and that's with FXAA turned on.  Several months ago FXAA did not work at all in FSX (and probably not P3D either).  Now it does and even for FSX!!.  Turn it on!!  Up in post #14, I don't like the NI configuration especially for the AA Supersampling of 4x's Sparse Grid Supersampling.  The setting should be turned off or no higher than 2x's.  If you have a really powerful system, leave it at 4x's but it is not necessary as FXAA fixes the problems.  LM has FXAA turned on in the P3D.cfg so make sure it is also on in the display driver/NI settings for P3D.  Here are my P3D NI settings that are working for me:

Hope it helps others.  I would also recommend everyone check out the new AVSIM FSX/P3D Configuration Guide V2.  A link to it is in my signature.  Right now it is mostly centered on FSX but a lot of it applies to P3D too.

Best regards,

Jim

Tried it all,,Driver 331 etc...now it's worse. It now has micro stutters to go with the etch a sketch graphics.

I saw no changes using NI, but I did smooth out jagged runway markings using SweetFX v1.5 with the SMAA anti-aliasing threshold set to 0.12.

Before (default P3D v2)

After (SweetFX 1.5)

Added a couple other things through sweetfx to make the sim appear more vibrant and the sunlight hitting surfaces actually looking like the color of sunlight.

I posted in the configuration tips forum that SGSS works better than FXAA for me (much less blurry, as FXAA works it's magic by essentially rubbing oil on the lens) and at no loss of frame rates. 4x MSAA + SGSS is great--exactly the same visuals as FSX for me coming from DX10.

I set NI to enhance and not override and SGSS does work in P3D that way. I first only used 8x MSAA in P3D but now I have 2x MSAA in P3D and NI set to enhance and 2xSGSS and it's a LOT better! With 8x MSAA only the A2A C172 was absolutely awful but with my new settings, the gauges etc. are pretty steady. Not quite there yet though but my GTX580 gets into problems when I use higher settings...

I don't want to sue FXAA because it blurs everything.

I find that unbelievable.  You have system problems or something is not configured correctly.  I have a feeling you have all of your scenery sliders set to the max which is impossible for any possible enjoyment (blurries/stuttering come from high settings that your computer cannot handle).  Why am I getting nearly perfect graphics with my settings and you are not?  It does not compute...

Best regards,

Nothing is maxed, I even have shadows and HDR off. I'm running it like it was FSX with none of the P3DV2 "special features" I know that I'm not the only one having problems with AA.

Jim -

Thanks for this - just upgraded to the 331.82 driver and tried your settings.  Overall look is great, but unlike GregG, I've still got jagged runway edges and shimmering shadow borders.  I'll need to tweak further tomorrow... or maybe just stand by for an NVidia update.  If you can think of what I ought to be tweaking, I'm open.  Thanks again!

Just to be clear, this improved the runways a lot IMO, but did not altogether clean up the edges. There is still room for improvement...

Also, I don't see gauges or anything else being negatively affected by FXAA.

i7-9700K, MSI Z370, PNY 4070 Super, GTX 750Ti, 32GB GSkill, 43" curved Samsung, 32" BenQ, 11" LED, RealSImGear GTN750, Win10,

P3DV5.4/P3DV6 and MSFS, several GoFlight modules, Saitek radio, Brunner CLS-E NG Yoke, Virtual Fly TQ6.

I dont know. Perhaps I'm expecting too much. Same results as FSX and thats not going to happen. tried 2 differnt time at varios irports last night. No NI setting would do as good as changing settings in the sim itself, mainly FXAA.

Interestingly i need 3 different AA-settings atm:

- FSXAA (P3D) for the runwayborders

- MSAA (P3D) for the "flickering country"

- SGSAA (NI) for the gauges in the VC

8x both MSAA and SGSAA is great, but not smooth on my rig atm

( in fsx with DX10+Steve it was, but with much less other visual enhancements which i like in P3D. So no comparism..)

4x both runs nearly smooth with the other settings i prefer ....  atm  ;-)

Nothing is maxed, I even have shadows and HDR off.

I just finished some testing and maxed all of my settings. Still got a pretty solid 50 fps but the AA issue is definitely seen on nearby runways (and not on the runway you are at). But I just wanted to see if I could duplicate your blurry textures. No blurries but, in photoreal areas, there was some delay in full rendering. That's fixed by lowering settings. I'm not seeing blurry textures in the cockpits though like some others are seeing. Asstated in the pinned topic about AA, it is being worked on so I expect that will fix many of our problems.

Progressive taxiing does not work for me (no arrows or markings). I suspect it is a shadow thing as that's how SteveP was able to fix the disappearing taxi markings for DX10.

In any case, I have to agree a little that there is an issue with AA that will hopefully be fixed soon.

Best regards,

Jim

So much for using an updated driver. I tried to run P3D and after the start screen I get black screens all the way around. Didn't have the black screen problem yesterday.

hi guys I have a question: when I'm in Prepar3D, ground sometimes the screen goes black entirely can be due to this? and another question has to modify something in the nvidia inspector?

Thanks in advance
