What's the best traffic ai addon for p3d v2

Recommended Posts

I use My Traffic X 5.4c in P3D 2.4 and it works great. TONS of traffic. Airline/GA/Military traffic. I just finished a flight where I took off from Port Moresby and behind me while taxiing was an Australian P-3. I took off to the west, he headed south (presumably back to Australia). I also heard traffic on the radio for JAL and the local Papua New Guinea airline.

5.4C is a pretty easy install in 2.4. There are instructions on how to do it on the My Traffic X support forums.

Were any "tricks" necessary to get it to work?

G'day Rick. I used the Estonia Migration Tool.  I understand a native version is in development.

I now restrict my flying in P3D to Australia and New Zealand.  As a result Traffic 360 has been uninstalled and replaced by ORBX/OZx free 'local' AI programs.

That's what I love about My Traffic as well. There is almost always an interesting military or GA flight in the vicinity (in addition to AI) which really adds to the immersion. Came across a flight of Huey's a few days ago...!

Keep in mind that an AI Air Traffic add-on like My T Pro provides a lot of different types of improvements:

  1. New AI models. My T Pro has ~ 200 models, each with 3 types, all of increasingly higher resolution.
  2. Liveries for all those AI models for every scheduled commercial airline.
  3. An revised ATC voice file to account for all those new airlines.
  4. Thousands of  airports, revised to add gates in order to accommodate every scheduled commercial flight.
  5. Flight schedules for every airline, GA aircraft and military aircraft.

When one looks over that list, it is pretty easy to see why AI Air Traffic add-ons are a challenge to develop and maintain. There is a tremendous amount of "busy work" that is required to keep the add-on both current and realistic.

MyTraffic 6.0

I am beta testing it :

- Installer and tools work together with FSX, P3DV1 and P3DV2, and support Wondows 8 and 8.1

- Which also means complete different installation ways, other installers,...

- All airports are redone for P3DV2

- Many airports are enhanced, changed for changing traffic patterns

- The two new passenger aircraft models you see here

- Many new paints, new schedules

Also it can be installed out of Fs, so with a reinstall of FSX or P3D no issues, just adding it to the cfg file and scenery library through the communicator ( or manual ).

This icw MyTraffic Live is the most realistic traffic environment for me.

I agree. I have seen some complaints here about the resolution of the AI aircraft models, but considering that one isn't doing much other than one is looking at them from 100s of feet away or more, I don't see what the big deal is with this issue. The alternative is to have detailed AI models and then cause a giant hit on frame rates. The My T Pro "wide screen" models look fine to me, so my eyesight must be failing. Also, some of the GA AI aircraft models are  the default P3d AI models, so that's not My T Pro's fault.

Running My T Pro with the Traffic Optimizer utility gives pretty good performance, even around big airports.

MT 6.0 icw the Traffic Optimizer will surely give good performance.

When using MyTraffic live do not use the optimizer as you want to see all traffic in realtime.

Just set MT to 30% .

When setting it higher it will taxe your system more and it will add fictional flights.

UT2 works "out of the box" for me with win8.1 in fsx and p3dv2.4 (with migration tool). And on 2 different systems. Desktop PC and Notebook.

Thanks for the tip Gerard. I use MyTraffic Live and never thought about the impact of using the AI Air Traffic Manager. I am using P3D 2.4. I installed 5.4C and had regular crashes. I reverted to 5.4B and haven't had an issue since. That's just my experience. Those who are using 5.4C without issue...good for you!

The author is working away at the software. He is saying that there will be a version 6 soon. You can take that to the bank. Just don't get too excited about 'soon'. He is a one man show and I believe that AI is not easy. So I think that if you don't want to do the work yourself (WOAI), and you want a product that is still under development, the choices are MyTraffic and Traffic 360. I've never used UT. I understand it is a good program. But the minute that something is done by the sim authors' that breaks AI...you're done.

So far MyTraffic X 5.4C is the most annoying program mentioned, and probably the only program that I've ever wanted a refund for. It says P3D ready, but it is clearly not (and by the publisher, admittedly not). I've tried every tweak and instrucion on fresh P3D 2.4 installs and it doesn't work. In fact, it doesn't even come with all the files to work on a fresh install (you need the P3D SDK, and need to copy files to the MyTraffic folder). Yet somehow, the Aeroesoft MyTraffic 2013 (a MyTraffic X version licensed to Aerosoft) works flawlessly without any tweaks. I don't want to set up traffic patterns from 2013 (that doesn't work) or 2012 or 2011 (or so on) that I will never follow in the air... I just want localized traffic without a headache installation. Aghhh. As you can tell, I'm frustrated. Rant over.

Gerard,

Is that a typo or has version 6 been released? Just curious. I like the program. Particularly the Live schedules.

If you haven't totally given up on MyTraffic and you're having problems with 5.4C; you may wish to install 5.4B. I had a lot of trouble with 5.4C and reverted to 5.4B. Very well behaved.

Any screens from MyTraffic 6? How much better are the models? It's nice to be able to compare.
