April 9, 201412 yr People were saying that when v1.3 was released and look how far they have taken the ESP code If they only get to v2.3 then that is a lot further than we started from when MS pulled the plug. when MS pulled the plug all I wanted was FSX SP3, now I have DX11 and cloud shadows. I really do not care that I am not their intended user, I have my FSX SP3 now and I look forward to what may come next, who knows what 2.3 and beyond will bring, Atmopheric scattering, crespucaler rays to go along with the cloud shadows, 64bit ?. LM bought the code because they see value in it, why would they pull the plug now. You said so many things in the last few posts so much better than I must have since the release of P3D v2 (or so it seems judging by a reply to me above). I just hope through all this back and forth it survives to be fully realized. April 9, 201412 yr But we all really need to support Lockheed Martins No, I will do no such thing. It's FSX with a different name. I will be supporting the next sim not based on FSX... Like Outrerra and X-plane where there is no "grey area" on whether or not I can use it. I think P3FSXD is safe for y'all, so long as there is only a couple hundred people using it... but if it ever got popular, then I think allot of fake students would get a very rude awakening. All it would take is a real customer (like a corporation that is paying the big buck money for the LM "service") to complain, then your all screwed.
April 9, 201412 yr I think P3FSXD is safe for y'all, so long as there is only a couple hundred people using it... but if it ever got popular, then I think allot of fake students would get a very rude awakening. Yep, LM are sure to say, "WOW there are far to many folks buying our product, better pull it from the market quick" And there are way more than a "few" hundred using it now. Lets face it, it's the LM connection that does not give you a warm and furry feeling isn't it ? Would you feel better if Electronic arts had bought the code and introduced power ups and tokens to fly through? If you enjoy FSX now but wished that a few more service packs had been released, or hoped that one day we would see FS11, then Prepar3D v2.2 is already there for you. There is no gray area, no ID checks along the way to purchasing the product, just punch in your card details like any other online transaction. If LM really did not want you to have the product they could easily make it only available to accredited training establishments, but they didn't, why do you think that is ?
April 9, 201412 yr I think P3FSXD is safe for y'all, so long as there is only a couple hundred people using it LM obviously hopes to see their "Academic" simulator in schools as a teaching/learning product. What a fantastic way to teach geography! I have wondered for many years why MS failed to do just that. Why would LM withdraw the product just because it had become widely used? january
April 9, 201412 yr If LM really did not want you to have the product they could easily make it only available to accredited training establishments, but they didn't, why do you think that is ? Anyone really know the answer to this question? LM behavior reminds me a corner liquor store owner who decides it's OK to sell alcohol to kids. I.E. The sign on the store's counter says "No Alcohol Sales to Minors" but the owner doesn't bother to enforce its own regulations. BTW, I not making a morality statement here comparing P3D to booze. April 9, 201412 yr Anyone really know the answer to this question? LM has a student licence for P3D !!! Hopefully all flight simmers are students of the world of aviation. (although I have met a few who seem to learn nothing as they go through life. P3D is not for them.) january
April 11, 201412 yr Let me make this clear..... STUDENT LICENSE... Lets say they decide or somehow are forced to check the Student licenses to ensure they are being used appropriately (this can and most likely would have severe ramifications from the public), so they check your credentials, simple solution, GO ON AN INTRODUCTORY FLIGHT, they range between 80-120 USD here in the USA, other countries I can no attest to and you get ACTUAL LOGGED PIC FLIGHT TIME, this would make you 100% eligible for the Student license. If they wanted to really push the issue and look at real logged flight time, you could call for a discrimination case (based on economics) and make it a legal issue which even then would cause a stir in LM as an entity. Lockheed Martin in my BELIEF (please do not make me quote Merriam Webster in the definition of BELIEF again) does not want to strictly enforce its student license even if they sold 20K or them, its revenue, generates a PR for the product (hopefully in a positive light) and drives more sales. Where LM would be more stringent on is the Flight Schools and professional teams, and this is understood so long as they don't ever get "EA greedy" and go nuts.
April 11, 201412 yr LM apears to offer P3D for much more than preparing for a pilot's license. See the extract from the P3D website below- "Offering a virtual world simulation that spans from deep underwater all the way to suborbital space, Prepar3D harnesses the power of gaming technology to engage the next generations in science, math and social studies curricula." I would construe that to welcome students to much more than only a PPL. I read that as an invitation to LEARN something of how the world works. Of course those who don't wish to learn anything should not acquire P3D. january
April 11, 201412 yr Prepar3D v2.2 is already there for you. That's the renamed version of FSX. Mine is sitting on my book shelf... in a box... on three DVD's. With my DX10 upgrades, it's better, **in my opinion**, then the before stated rented versions LM has. way more than a "few" hundred using it now. Link? BTW, I not making a morality statement here comparing P3D to booze. I think you mean Cool Aid. --- Well, don't your panties in a bunch. Enjoy your sim's. Who knows what the future may bring. At any rate, computer hardware today is finally able to make any new sim platform shine. Myself, I'll keep my eye on the real deals; Outerra and X-plane.
April 11, 201412 yr LM has a student licence for P3D !!! There is an Academic Licence, not a student licence. Gerry Howard
April 11, 201412 yr There is an Academic Licence, not a student licence. haha always so literal. We all know what he means  Matthew Kane I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me
April 11, 201412 yr You haven't taken into account how stubborn Flight Sim people really are. They can be very stubborn. I did get an educational licence for P3D but when I went to reinstall it after reinstalling Win7, it said my licence was no good and to contact LM, I tried to contact LM and they were difficult to get a hold of, so I removed it. I have no interest in going down that road again so I will stay with FSX, and I wouldn't mind getting my money back for that P3D licence seeing as it was no good. you have to uninstall p3d first, then you can re-install it without emailing LM. it's like the PMDG T7 LICENSE in the FMC.
April 11, 201412 yr FSX. Mine is sitting on my book shelf... in a box... on three DVD's. With my DX10 upgrades, it's better, **in my opinion**, then the before stated rented versions LM has. I agree with this one point. You have to go to LM to get P3D and that's via download. You don't have copies you can buy on Amazon.com or retail stores. FSX has long since been discontinued but copies for new users can still be bought off the shelf. If LM pulls the plug on P3D (which companies eventually always do) users are in limbo like what happened to MS FLIGHT extended content packages. Those who already have it have it, those new to the bobby who don't won't be able to get it and for them it's back to FSX/FS9 as those titles can be bought on places like Amazon. April 11, 201412 yr If LM ever pull that plug on it there will be another company ready and willing to pick it up where they leave off. There is a couple of decades of development behind this product. It all got started before Microsoft took it over and when MS short sightedness set in and they dropped it a company like LM comes along a picks it up. They clearly didn't think they where picking up garbage but a diamond in the wrough. There must have been a point at which LM made a decision that they would build a Flight Simulator for training that would run in a windows environment. Now at that point they would have had a choice; build one from Scratch or purchase the shelved ESP code from MS. What does that say about building one from scratch and what does it say about the ESP Code?
April 11, 201412 yr If LM ever pull that plug on it there will be another company ready and willing to pick it up where they leave off. Wow, you really think so... Anyway LM picked up ESP long before MS dropped the franchise. MS originally was going to work with LM to develop a more robust version that would cost allot more than the retail version of Flight Simulator. If there was not an existing contract on the table concerning ESP FSX would have truly been it. Microsoft is very anal retentive about giving away source codes as we can see with MS Flight. I'm sure LM would have a much easier time developing an FS11 with the FLIGHT source code versus FSX's. FLIGHT's engine is much more capable than the FSX's. If you'd put back in the features that was gutted in the FLIGHT engine it would have been amazing. You can rest assured no one will see that engine fully realized unless Bill Gates green lights it. There is no way a company can pick up licensed code from either Microsoft or LM without their consent. Microsoft surely won't do it.
