June 10, 201411 yr If the buyer wants to get some initial cash-flow going from it, startup costs to get Flight sales moving again wouldn't require much more than removing the MS branding. They wouldn't even have to develop new content themselves... they could open up to 3PDs selling planes and scenery through their storefront (using Steam, or whatever) and just act as a gate-keeper, taking a cut of sales. There's minimal costs and no real risks. Put some coders to work on squashing the bugs MS left behind and completing/creating the unfinished/missing content (autopilot, traffic, weather, etc.) and you've got a nice sim, eventually.
June 10, 201411 yr Thanks for the great news! I've stuck with Flight since it had been released, trying to add new content, and this could be the next step! Looking forward to the future of this game!! Do keep us all updated! Kavinda J.D ^_^
June 10, 201411 yr Flight itself was free - only its DLC was priced. Any thoughts on the business model for its re-incarnation? Gerry Howard
June 10, 201411 yr This is indeed very promising, as MS FLIGHT is by far the BEST civil flight simulator experience I ever had. Whow! Great!!!!!!! It could even bring me back from the wonderful world of combat flight simulators, where I am having a great experience! Flying gliders since 1980 Flightsimming since 1992 AMD Ryzen 5600x, 32GB RAM, GPU Nvidia RTX 3060 Ti 8 GB, 1 TB and 500 GB nvme2 SSD drives, HP 27" 60Hz LED monitor @ 1920x1080, T16000, Hotas from old X52 Pro, Saitek Combat Rudder Pro (2010 model)
June 10, 201411 yr In our news article on Sunday, we stated: AVSIM is being told by multiple sources that Microsoft, after years of dickering and sometimes murky intentions, has sold the license to the FS franchise. That doesn't specify a title within the franchise or whether it is all or one. A "franchise" can be the entire product line or one out of the franchise. Other sites are reporting differently. Pick your poison. :Big Grin:
June 10, 201411 yr However, your report does seem to contradict simFlight's: AVSIM: "We can also tell you that the licensee is not one that we would have thought to have been a logical candidate in terms of direct knowledge of the product" simFlight: "This entity, which we are not yet at freedom to divulge, is no stranger to the simulation market."
June 10, 201411 yr However, your report does seem to contradict simFlight's: AVSIM: "We can also tell you that the licensee is not one that we would have thought to have been a logical candidate in terms of direct knowledge of the product" simFlight: "This entity, which we are not yet at freedom to divulge, is no stranger to the simulation market." Isn't the first time; won't be the last. Time will tell. See my most recent post in other thread on this subject in the Hangar Chat forum. Let me add: the two statements are entirely different. "No stranger to the SIMULATION MARKET" is not the same as "DIRECT KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRODUCT"...
June 10, 201411 yr Pick your poison. After a little window shopping when all this first started coming to light, I think I'll put all the poisons back on the shelf and just wait to see how things end up. There are just so many different directions that speculation can take us in this case...
June 10, 201411 yr Personally, I believe that Microsoft wouldn't just "sell" their work to another producer. It is highly unlikely that anyone would be able to develop Flight without the base knowledge from the ACES Team. Looking at the reviews of the game, since release, Flight has not given the persuasion necessary to the Flight Simulation Franchise. Resurrecting this simulator will be a very large challenge indeed! Flight may be extremely close to FSX in its structure and "composition," but Microsoft have added many modifications, to ensure that this game cannot be developed without the original, internal tools. Microsoft may want to keep the game running in the franchise, but then again, there will be no support provided for the community or the game. In short, I imagine that Flight will be out of the franchise, however, there may be hope, if an SDK is released. At the end of the day, it’s still just a “rumour.” Just keep your hopes up! Once we actually hear something from Microsoft regarding this matter, we cannot be completely sure about future intentions. No matter what, I will always stick to Microsoft Flight! Kavinda J.D ^_^
June 10, 201411 yr No matter what, I will always stick to Microsoft Flight! As will I and a lot of other people from all over the world that never have left! Steve
June 10, 201411 yr What I find most shocking is that people actually play MSFlight. I gave it about and hour of attention when it was released, then uninstalled it. Maybe I should look at it again? But after years of tuning my FSX, and adding thousands of dollars worth of third-party content, does MSFlight really offer me anything? Missions? Best of luck to the new owner, if such a deal took place. I truly believe competition among developers can only be good for us, the consumers. Aaron Thacker

It offers an unmatched combination of performance and graphical quality, as well as top-notch flight dynamics and sound.
June 10, 201411 yr Let me add: the two statements are entirely different. "No stranger to the SIMULATION MARKET" is not the same as "DIRECT KNOWLEDGE OF THE PRODUCT"... I'd suggest that they are consistent: “…direct knowledge of the product” (AVSIM) means that the buyer has no direct knowledge of Flight Simulator (the product) and “… no stranger to the simulation market." (SimFlight) means that the buyer knows about the simulation market but still has no direct knowledge of Flight Simulation. Gerry Howard
June 10, 201411 yr Maybe I should look at it again? But after years of tuning my FSX, and adding thousands of dollars worth of third-party content, does MSFlight really offer me anything? Missions? Flight is good for what it is. If you're interested in flying small single engine propeller planes around Hawaii or Alaska, it's much nicer than FSX. If you like bush flying Flight is actually pretty decent at representing off airport landings. The flight dynamics (at least for high wing single engine props) feel nicer (slips, stalls, and landings in particular). If you're looking for a structured experience, the mission system is revamped, and the few real missions it has are well done. The landing challenges are fun to an extent. But if you're looking for airliners, military planes, some particular locale (that's not in Hawaii or Alaska), traffic or ATC, you best look somewhere else.
June 10, 201411 yr But if you're looking for airliners, military planes, some particular locale (that's not in Hawaii or Alaska), traffic or ATC, you best look somewhere else. Yeah I fly GA, generally single prop, IFR with traffic. I sometimes fly Alaska, but have no interest in Hawaii. I'll keep my eyes on the future of P3D until something better reveals itself. Thanks for the response. Aaron Thacker
