Excuse my apparent ignorance; who is GFWL? You guys throw acronyms around and most folks here don't know what you are talking about.

GFWL is an abbreviation for "Games for Windows LIVE," the multiplayer/DLC service that Microsoft Flight uses. GFWL is actually a rather commonly used acronym, which is probably why no one thought much of it when using it.

Oops, ChaoticBeauty replied while I was still typing this. :P

Thx guys.

I do not have MS FLIGHT or FSX installed. Actually, when it as released I bought MS FLIGHT, and then after the cancelation of the support took place, I erased it from my PC, and later bought FSX Gold through GFWL, which installs ONLY from the GFWL interface, and in the end erases all of the support CABs.

I believe that after July 1st I will be unable to re-install fsx, should I ever decide to do it?

Ha! But what you're saying is right, I rarely see people not using the acronym.

Could you perhaps burn the installation to a disk or something?

Tried it, several times, but it doesn't work :-(

The "online" GFWL-based installer requires... GFWL running. It must make some tests. Of course maybe someone found the way around this limitation, but I couldn't find it :-/

@Tom: Please don't feel worried about any comments regarding having made an announcement about it!  It was a great innitiative, and I believe you had to decide carefully if you should, but, after all, everyone was starting to talk about it everywhere, so, why not here at AVSIM, which is probably and by far the most representative civil flight simulation portal?

PC gaming is dead...PC gaming is dead...PC gaming is dead...

Have a peek at this link:

http://www.pcr-online.biz/news/read/pc-games-have-surpassed-console-games-globally/033849

It appears that PC gaming's share of revenue has surpassed consoles...this year. Not raining on anybody's parade. But we have a tendency to write off the PC, Intel and Microsoft far too easily.

With flight simulation, we live in a relatively small cocoon. Currently we don't buy enough stuff, as a group to warrant serious consideration by large players. Now I'll bet our spending per capita (playforms, addons, hardware) is far and away higher than any other gaming segment. If there were tens of millions of us, developers would be eating out of our hands. The economies of scale would kick in and major software/hardware manufacturers would be climbing all over one another trying to get in.

Is there a point in this post you ask!?!?! Fair question. I think if/when the buyer of FS/Flight/FSX surfaces, it will be to create a sim/game/platform (pick one); with mass appeal. I too hope that a company will come forward and take the best of Flight and sell a serious bug free simulator. I can't help but think we are dreaming, unless it is someone like Bill Gates, who will do it because he wants to....not because it will make him a bucket of money.

Oh yes, there are those that are are doing exactly that. Maybe not yet in this topic, but I am quite certain that there are those that will find this discussion and take the opportunity to do so, just as they have elsewhere. I am putting a  preemptive notice out that it won't be tolerated in this last remaining discussion about the subject. The expectation that it would be announced at E3 was obviously wrong. The sale of the license is a fact.

Well, the combined PS4 and XBox 1 sales have been disappointing. Besides, how much gaming is done on phones and tablets? That's where the market went.

Actually, one of the things I found encouraging was the timing. After all, her we are gloomily awaiting the end of GFWL and the shutdown of multiplayer (which would be a huge blow to flight) and then suddenly at the last second.... the cavalry appears and......

We're saved?

Tune in...... tomorrow. Or maybe in a few months.

Well, it didn't help that Microsoft behaved like asses in the lead-up to XBOX 1 release. I couldn't believe it. Its like they didn't understand their customers at all, or just didn't give a crap.

They ###### off an awful lot of people with that "We'll do anything we want, and you'll shut up and like it" attitude.

The same one that endeared Windows 8 to so many people.......

We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically.

My guesses:

Ubisoft, because they have definately the money, experience in flight-(games) e.g. HAWX. And last but not least they are dedicated also to DLC ;)

Wargaming they have also experience in flight simulation (world of warplanes), but less money.

I don`t think it is Dovetail games, because afaik they didn`t attend to E3, but the ones above did.

The concept of being able to drive between airports, buildings, etc is a great concept. Far Cry 3 is also a great game. Though, the two don't quite mix very well. :P It would be cool if driving was an option in a future flight sim.

Sorry to come in so late, but driving vehicles has been available for FS9 & FSX for many years. There has been Formula 1 racing cars as well as a F1 track. There are so many cars, trains, motor bikes & boats out there. Lionheart had a add-on for FS9 that told the story of a WWII german soldier & there was a truck to drive from one base to another, also a sub. So, we have cars, BWW's VW's, Porshe's, cop cars, trucks & a whole heap of stuff for us to drive around & check out our scenery. Bill Lyonns, in the old days, had a lot of releases that told a story. In each, there was as least a plane, boat/car/bike & a story line to link them all together.

So, have a look at whats out there.
