July 4, 201411 yr Hopefully the servers will go down to make things easier for everyone! I really want to get some more aerocaches into the game (and some Missions!), but that is proving impossible right now! Well, the official server shutdown is now October 14, 2014, impacting on mutliplayer and aerocaches, while download of previously purchased DLC will continue to work: https://news.microsoftflight.com/blogs/news/archive/2014/07/03/flight-shutdown-announcement.aspx So, the scenario you suggest may be possible, at least for aerocaches. July 4, 201411 yr So it is shutting down after all. Too bad. I guess I'll spend the summer flying multiplayer because I haven't really done so. But I've got to say I feel glad they're confirming that the DLC will remain usable for the foreseeable future.
July 4, 201411 yr Author i think it`s not Dovetail Games who bought the licence for MSFS. Because they have the Train Simulator and now announced the Fishing Simulator. Seems that FlightSims doesn`t fit. btw: No news on the biggest flightsim website about the last active MSFS flightsim shutdown???
July 5, 201411 yr Because they have the Train Simulator and now announced the Fishing Simulator.Seems that FlightSims doesn`t fit. That's where you're so obviously wrong. They need it for fly fishing.

July 5, 201411 yr Well now I've seen yet another simulation genre more niche than flying.......... Scuba and Sheep simulator, move over!! We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... July 5, 201411 yr I gotta say, I'm disappointed with the recent announcement that the server will shut down in October. I too would have thought that Dovetail (even though they aren't one of my favorite publishers) could have extended the life of Flight. Alas, that is not to be. I have to wonder what they were thinking though. A fishing simulator? Okey Dokey. This one will be fun to watch. All is not lost, however. We still don't know who purchased the license from MS. Maybe there is still hope. Thank you. July 7, 201411 yr Well now I've seen yet another simulation genre more niche than flying.......... Scuba and Sheep simulator, move over!! Sheep Simulator? Is that ESRB "M" or "A" rated?
July 7, 201411 yr Sheep Simulator? Is that ESRB "M" or "A" rated? I don't think Sheep Simulator exists, maybe he meant Goat Simulator. It's rated M by ESRB for "blood, crude humour, drug reference, strong language and violence".
July 9, 201411 yr Well now I've seen yet another simulation genre more niche than flying.......... Scuba and Sheep simulator, move over!! Talking about a niche product: I think it is a big mistake to concentrate on us hardcore simmers as a target group. The genre lives from the young kids (and their Dads) that "play" with it and slowly get addicted. So you need a soft and easy drug to hook them (and not a professional sim that costs 200 $ plus another 200$ in addons that are complicated to set up!). We need flying action and easy-to-fly planes as a tool to hook the youth to the hobby. Lots of them will pirate the software but lots also will buy it (or receive it as a gift). And this will increase the number of sales to an attractive level (attractive for software producers). And we hardcore-simmers can only hope that this product will also have the capability to serve us and our needs. I think it is well possible to create a FS XII in all its glory and to make a light-and-easy-version available for the beginners. So what both great platform currently miss is the "easy to hop on" action for kids between 10 and 20. BTW: Is FLIGHT! still around? Can I download it and try to fly around Alaska? I never botheed to try it out and now I am curious if I would like it. There was also a CarbonCub for FLIGHT! I would like to try that one too. You should still be able to download the free version https://microsoftflight.com/en-us/getStarted/ You can't buy DLC anymore, hence no Alaskan wilderness pack and consequently no Carbon Cub

I think it is well possible to create a FS XII in all its glory and to make a light-and-easy-version available for the beginners. I think that was very much the point of Flight. Instead, the kids are jumping on War Thunder. My nephew just downloaded it, and he's very excited and interested. And guess what? The people who started out on "Arcade mode" in that "Game" are now moving up into a "Full Real Battle" mode that cedes little ground, if any to "real simulations" like Rise of Flight. The kids still love flying. Just not the "Study Sim" and "Instrument management" sims that are generally favored here. And now, the sims that remain offer less and less of an entry level experience to capture a new audience. It's become all about the existing audience. We are all connected.....
