A first glimpse at Prepar3d v2.3

Recommended Posts

Testing with and without nVidia Inspector and no difference in performance other than being able to get better SGSS AA.

This is major !  Awesome news.. thanks.

Please remember this is an early Beta build and the only thing that has been updated to support this build is Pete's FSUIPC.

I'll post more testing later and I'll use Fraps to record as it seems to do a better job at locking frame rates while recording.

Cheers, Rob.

Hello Rob,

Do you know if the SLI  is supported by the 2.3 ?

Wasn't specifically mentioned and I haven't tested with SLi ... yet.  In order for that to happen I think we'll need to see an nVidia profile update and I haven't seen one for P3D yet.

Cheers, Rob.

Thanks for the update on 2.3....all insight welcomed and anticipated :-)

Also, thanks for testing with orbx scenery as this does add additional work to the rendering....Yes, stress test all possible!  I recommend Seattle with PNW if you have it...LOL.  Currently, taking off from Boeing Intl and going straight towards the city at maximum velocity induces blurries in seconds.  If this updated engine handles that better, I'm sold!

Surely all that  OBYX is saying about P3D v2.3 is "I wanted to see how the cloud shadows performed in the new P3DV2.3. beta."

My thoughts as well.

Thanks a lot for your answer and all your tests

Thanks, Rob, for the video (including the fps counter).

It is good news if the impact of cloudshadows is reduced and especially the impact of clouds between the user and the sun (which has a really big impact on my system).

Water does look much better to me as in the default 2.2 version. Rob: Do you use any addon for that (like REX?).

I absolutely agree on the water...I'm using REX 4 and it nowhere looks as real as that!  I sure hope that the water we are seeing here..everybody is going to see in use...!!!  The wave swells looked so real!  Wow.

The water in p3d is dynamic based on wind speed but I think you only see the effect below a certain altitude. Your tessellation setting and water quality setting will also have an effect on what you see.

In 2.2 I have water and tessellation at the highest settings and still Need to use the NI and REX OD to have nice Waters.

And btw: The waves in 2.2 seem to be much too high!

There are NO tweaks in my Prepar3D.cfg (confirmed that all cores are being used). Testing with and without nVidia Inspector and no difference in performance other than being able to get better SGSS AA.

Visuals are great but heaps of stutter even at 144 here.

Is this another "only in the video" thing?

Thanks,

gb.

Liked your quote..very trud..

Wow that's like saying "I'm, 40 years old, still a virgin and proud of it!".

I'm sure there are people out there still using FS98, and happy to stay with that. ;)

Seriously though, Orbx aren't forcing anyone to buy anything, they are not a big bad corporation, but they do make quality stuff.

I personally think in HDR mode the mid-day lighting is still too dark usually.

I was up flying yesterday in sunny Idaho (real flying) and was reminded again of 3 things:

1.  People who knock the look of REX clouds simply don't realize how many real life cloud situations are well portrayed by REX.

2.  The world is brighter than ever depicted by both P3D and X-Plane.  Wish something could be done on this (options at least)

3.  Clouds shadows are totally awesome in P3D and so so real looking.  AWESOME!!

Keep reading the thread...

I can't say yet what they've done as it might change, but I was able to use the cloud shadows with very small impact on frames, so it's looking good.

+1. Good advice! ;-)

Sadly, there are so many people around who read 1 sentence and jump to conclusions. And as if that was not enough, they subsequently spam forums with their complains... If someone thinks these threads are not informative then they should just stop reading them... ;-)
