July 15, 201411 yr I always bring a sledge hammer and a bottle of super glue whenever I sit down to run FSX. I find myself smashing it to pieces one minute and putting it all back together the next. Keith Guillory
July 15, 201411 yr Still run fsx even if it takes 30 minutes to load on me those, A2A need oil changes. Decided clouds 512 and water 512, and UTX off. I would fly FSX more if it loaded faster up to fly. Need to buy SSD drive just for my fsx goodies.
July 15, 201411 yr FSX enjoy it and starting to think the less add on junk on it the has better it runs. Pretty much. I can relate to the Op. Re-installing all my Orbx stuff, tracking down all the updates, re-installing all the addons....... I have given up on FSX for right now just because doing yet another re-install feels to much like hard labor on a chain gang. Just thinking about it is depressing. We are all connected..... To each other, biologically...... To the Earth, chemically...... To the rest of the Universe atomically. July 15, 201411 yr I don't think I could be happier with my setup, and the way FSX runs. I'm sure that over-tweaking causes so very many problems. I've done very little, but I've invested in a superb system designed by experts...Jetline Systems. This is my 2nd system from them, and I'm convinced that they know how to specifically design the right setup for this hobby. After all, the owner of Jetline is a total FSX enthusiast...as well as a real world pilot. I couldn't do it better, and I own a company with 6 I.T specialists. They understand computers, but they really don't know what makes FSX fly smoothly. Stan I am sorry but as someone who is trying to build a new system I find their prices VERY HIGH. I have this system: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/Devinci/saved/wq7p99 for around $1700. It's almost like their HellFire GTX which cost $4100. Unless I'm missing something it looks way overpriced. I know putting the system together may be challenging for "non-computer" people but still it's not so hard as to justify the difference in price. I built my first computer alone without much trouble at all and I'm not an expert at this. Sagga Toure

July 15, 201411 yr Devinci, I understand. What's overpriced for some....isn't for others. I find the value higher than the price I paid. I don't build computers, I use them. I fly FSX seamlessly. That's why everybody doesn't drive a base Kia (not that's there anything wrong with the car). Some drivers have Mercedes and other cars which have the same internal combustion engine....and they get you from point A to point B. Not everyone buys a car based on how cheap it is or the price. You buy what pleases you, and what you can afford. The Jetline system is awesome and to ME....worth every penny. Stan '
July 15, 201411 yr I'm really starting to pay more attention to the developments in DCS, and starting to consider branching out into things like IL-2 or Rise of Flight. I have DCS: P-51, RoF, IL2: BoS and am a member of Team Fusion working on IL-2 CoD mod. All of those are worthy of your money and time. However, none of them scratch the itch that FSX does, especially if you enjoy flying GA. I say GO FOR IT, but don't remove your FSX install. Aaron Thacker

I would fly FSX more if it loaded faster up to fly. Need to buy SSD drive just for my fsx goodies. I can beat that. Clouds 256 since December 2006. Even on an i5 in "Turbo" mode. The SSD is probably the most useful upgrade in history. I would have long given up making stuff for FSX without the blissful 30 second boot and load time. If you keep things simple, FSX and add-ons will fit perfectly on a 64GB partition (the other 64GB being used by Windows). 7950X3D + 7900 XT + 64 GB + Linux | 4800H + RTX2060 + 32 GB + Linux My add-ons from my FS9/FSX days

But I thought it may have been misinformation about the actual prices ($4100 vs $2000). But as long as it pleases you, everything is well. I for instance build a new PC every 3 years so I usually want to get the best bang for my bucks. Sagga Toure
July 16, 201411 yr FSX was the best thing in 2006, but lets say it's now outdated. Computers these days are 16 times more powerful than they were 8 years ago according to Moore's law, so I will be back, when a better more optimized simulator is made.. I'm not sure if it's the code, or whether it's just the amount of things that need to be rendered. With a small scale game world, everything runs at 60 FPS, but that's because it's a small environment, and not a 197 million square mile round globe rendered 4.5 miles at a time (default LOD setting). Even with Prepar3D putting things onto the GPU, it would probably take 2-4 GPUs in SLI in order to render all that data. Still, I understand that it was made in 2006, and not every program was using multicore, SLI, DX11, etc back then that we have today. Jeff Thomson
July 16, 201411 yr I won't say I've had to do some small tweaks here and there. But like it's been said before, when you throw in some add ons you need to make sure they all play well together. I have very minimal work into installing and configuring my add ons and I absolutely love my FSX now and how it runs. I respect your decision, but man, I don't know what I would do without FSX in my life. Cheers! -David
July 16, 201411 yr I am new to FSX (since November) and only just 'finished' my set up. I've reinstalled several times in six months, had CTDs had horrible errors I couldnt fix, like my scenery addon titles all disappearing in the list, etc... But it runs very nicely now, even better since I uninstalled the UK ORBX airports and stuck with UK2000. It flies great every time now, the menus work perfectly every time, ASN works perfectly, FPS is very good, dependant only on how crazy I get with UT2 traffic sliders. I'm on three screens with a full sim pit set-ip and I fly daily ... and love it. Its the best thing I ever bought/owned in my life and every day I marvel at how flippin cool the whole thing is!!! - Paul Elliott http://www.avsim.com/topic/450607-amy-johnson-london-to-australia-attempt/
July 16, 201411 yr Commercial Member Don't forget guy that vanilla FSX on modern CPU (i7) will work at 100 fps easily, and it will go up to 200, at least in my DX9 test. I didn't mention DX10 because vanilla FSX is made for DX9. Add ORBX layers, land classes, vector data, ton of add ons, PMDG stuff, super detailed payware airport, and AI traffic, you'll end with 20-30fps when on runway. So it isn't FSX, it's ton of stuff that platform is handling. Imagine low powered empty car how it will perform on a steep uphill, and the difference when the trunk is full of heavy stuff and with 5 persons sitting inside! Current system: ASUS PRIME Z690-P D4, Intel 12900k, 32GB RAM @ 3600mhz, Zotac RTX 3090 Trinity, M2 SSD, Oculus Quest 2.
July 16, 201411 yr It is like overloading the camel and attempting to get it going again by braiding it's tail.. Its the best thing I ever bought/owned in my life and every day I marvel at how flippin cool the whole thing is!!! Some of us seem to forget we do this for fun, so it's nice to see someone take the time to enjoy their sim and admit it, too!
