To FSX Users on the Fence................FS98

Featured Replies

Good Morning World!

I see we are all still here and most of us are having a bit of good natured fun!

this thread is all nonsense

You are almost correct, but guess what?  Much of what we posted is absolutely true, and it is just as valid as all those so called opinions in those other 2 fence threads. Those threads are just as unnecessary as:

Coke vs Pepsi

Ford vs GM vs Dodge

Boeing vs Airbus

Windows vs XOS

As informed, educated, and read FSX users do you think we need to be informed as to the opinions of other platform users? I don't think so. And it's not like people came along and asked which is better or what should I use. No, those were started just out of thin air. Many know the strengths and weaknesses of each sim, many know the hardware and software requirements, many know about the add-ons or lack of. Then came along the posts that are so wrong that it's not even funny. But out of respect for the threads those totally wrong informational posts were not insulted.

Now 6 more posts have been added that I will now read!

Wow, you have really put yourself on a pedestal! You know everything I guess! and forget about everyone else on the forum and that might value the information. If you don't like it, then we'll just make fun of it, discourage it, and make people feel like they don't have an opinion. Please, don't tell me what is good or better than what I use, because I already know everything.

You know what I think, based on your feedback in those threads. You don't know half of what you think you know about those platforms. The nonsense in those threads was your invalid statements that you couldn't back.

And since when do I have to wait for someone to ask before I offer information. If I have an interesting experience, can I not share it? I value the opinions of others and the more I get the better and more informed decision I can make. But that's of course because I don't know everything like you. Is it okay if maybe you just bypass the stuff and I read it??? Maybe??

Many do know the strengths and weaknesses of the various platforms...yes you're right, but not you, and many also don't and would like to hear more.

Focus class, focus! (I have to say that a thousand times a day and won't be able to today)

Let's not let a few get us off task here! If they want to participate and share why FS98 should be the next sim of FSX users then I say Welcome to Our World!! If not, that's all good too, there are other threads for that!

Man, what I really love about my factitious FS98 install are the beautiful water textures it has!! And what is really great is that no matter if I use DX 6 or 7 the FPS (remember now, anything over 24 FPS can't be recognized) are exactly the same and the quality of the water NEVER changes!! Does anyone know if I can get DX 8 to work? Because I just know for sure, without a doubt, bet my house on it, that the next version of DX will render water textures so realistically that I will want to land on a beach somewhere and just jump right through my monitor into that water!

Edit: No comment!

FS98 was my first sim, though I only started flying it in the mid-2000s. I didn't know how to fly or disable crash detection so it wasn't all that fun...

Regards, Jeremy Chesney

That's OK Jeremy!

Now that you know how to fly ultra realistically because you have been cut by a blade or looked up on a table somewhere you can now jump off the fence and back into FS98 and all the fun will return!!

Forget about the DX version; you absolutely have to get 64 bit. Everyone knows that 64 bit is 2 times 32 bit so it is obvious that with 64 bit:

1. The sim will load 2 times faster.

2. The graphics will be twice as good.

3. The frame rate will be double.

4. You will have twice as much fun (unless you are currently running P3D).

Wrong mmann,

64-bits is 2^64 - 2^32 better. So that's 18 billion billion times better than 32-bit. You'll definitely need 4 GTX Titan Xs  just to get the most from Prepar3D.

I recently tried FS98, but I didn't like it. It wasn't smooth; too many stutters. So, I'm back to FU. It has just a few planes and a small area, but at least I can listen to realistic ATC and hone my acrobatic flying skills. :P

All in fun... Come on MAN!

My not-on-the-fence FSX awaits me, but before I go:

As long as my FS98 add-ons will still work on day one without me having to pay again, then I'm in.

As long as my FS98 will support Titan X cards with DX 6, then I'm in.

As long as my FS98 gets added to Steam soon, then I'm in.

FS98 needs to have TacPack so I can blow the fence from under those who are still on it!

Jim I skip FS98 because I'm still on Win 3.1 and FS4 love all those floppy disks and I hate Win 95

Has anyone tried the OPTIMIZE_PARTS fix on FS98?  I swear my fps went from 400 to 402... best fix ever!

Change your FIBRE_FRAME_FRACTION to 0.01...it should give you a 4000% increase in FPS.

I haven't tried the OPTIMIZE_PARTS fix, but I can tell you that Bojote's Tweaking and Tuning tool didn't seem to help at all; for some reason FS98 isn't recognizing the fsx.cfg file.
